Starting line up ideally with current squad:

RCC
Willis Ricketts Stokes
Rose Ghadzev Reid McCann
Jones Tudgay Sordell

Not on Saturday, as far as I know Stokes is still injured, McCann is banned for 3 games.
GK RCC
Defence Leahy, Willis, Ricketts
Midfield Lameiras, Rose, Vlad, Haynes
Front 3 are likely to be Jones, Sordell, Reid.

Tuggy, Thomas, Spence & Kelley-Evans's n bench.

Chuffed to see the McCann deal has finally been sorted.

A very good signing that, even if it's only for the six months

Maybe swap Spence and rose I dunno, but Spence looked good in pre season

Yeah i think whatever TM planned has fallen away to be honest, if that's due to a change in the budget, reaching to high for players outside our realms, TM getting it badly wrong or a combination of the 3 all are possibilities. We can only now look forward on the playing side and hope a few loans fall our way to strengthen the squad enough to compete over the season. Time will tell i just would keep expectation down a tad and hope for more wins than defeats and see where that takes us come June.

But that was year 1 of a 2 year plan. This is supposed to be year 2. Surely we've learnt from our errors last season, and not signing players quickly enough was an error, right? Or atleast not 'enough' players
I don't think that was the error. Defensive injuries, players losing form, arguably Kent going back to Liverpool and some dodgy players joining did it for us in the end.

Why would we have had to double his wages? He was under contract. And he couldn't talk to anyone unless we let him.

Because that's the way it works. Players leave if they want to and the owning club never retain them.

Rubbish is a bit strong but his game did deteriorate although he was messed about playing in defence.

Vincelot spent the first half of last season as a Warrior and the second half as a Worrier.

After Christmas he was like a rabbit in the headlights.

Welcome to Chris McCann

They did play a part, but I think not having a 'squad' ready for the season ahead was part of the reason why we had to sign the players we did in the end, which proved to be desperation signings in the end.

I'm all for avoiding a repeat of that, but at this rate, are we not coming close to repeating it? We must have more kids within the squad this season than last, and kids getting burned out before the season end was one of the main, if not the main factor in our downfall imo

TM would have liked players in earlier too. But we are not alone, plenty of sides are in our situation and still waiting too make a few signings. Getting the right players is not a simple process. What you don't want is panic buying. I would rather give our own youngsters a chance.

Players can't refuse to play. But they can play as though they don't give a shit. But no club can talk to them or offer them anything without permission.

Disagree, our young guns got us off to a flyer last season and pretty much the best start possible. A chance they may not have been given if we had padded out the squad with more players.

No disputing the start, but what about the end? Did we have enough players competing for places? I know I seen some complacent performances as the season went on, and we had no pla B nor any decent replacement players

Well hopefully TM learnt from last season with the few panick buys we had Ramage, Henderson, Hunt...obviously they didn't work out so although our defence was pretty shit at times and despite it being weakened a little more (or maybe strengthened with the return of Willis) at this present time he looks to have brought a few more attacking options in so fingers crossed and woo hoo the season is almost upon us

To be honest I was hoping our plan would have changed to signing the likes of Jones, Hussey's Stokes'
And the equivalents from division 4
Plus our home grown
Then add some premiership loans

Yea I just posted my reasons as to why I believe it went pear shaped near the end in post #150. Don't think it was down to the squad not being ready at the beginning.

I think there was enough competition for places in most positions (a week didn't go by without people moaning about rotation and tinkering as the season went on). There were one or two positions we were short in, I'd say notably left back.

January is a different situation. Mowbray knew we lacked experience and bodies. He brought in who he thought might be able to do a job out of the limited choice he had. You either push on or you don't. It is your last roll of the dice. In the summer it is different, once you have spent the budget it is gone.

We have to remember 'those' knee jerk signings in January did more damage than good imo.

Our season completely fell apart after Christmas. Now there is a multitude of reasons. Younger players burning out, defence fell apart once Reda went, Turner got injured and then useless Ramage comes in. Henderson was a donkey, was there too much of a spotlight on Cole? Maddison sale?

The team didn't have enough players with a winning mentality. Too much hope on the 'oil' Fleck and hard man Vincelot? They vanished after Christmas.

So, maybe this so called 2 year plan by Mogga has to be ditched, because it failed last season? So, start again?

The signings so far this summer have been good quality individually but we haven't got enough through the door yet.

Jones is very bright prospect that will excite fans.

Sordell potentially could rediscover his form from back in his Watford days. He scored 8-9 goals in a rubbish team last season before injury.

Kyel Reid is a top L1 player. Pace and power.

Ghadzev is potentially a championship player and a Bulgarian international. Should boss this league. Passing, shooting and set piece expert.

McCann won promotion last year with Wigan. He's knows what it takes. Unfortunately for 5 months.

Of all the players released, Martin potentially should have been kept as a squad player. Vincelot only gave us half a season and vanished. He's not getting any younger and his cash has helped to sign Reid.

Let's just hope Mogga can get a few more key players in especially defence and a top goalscorer like Armstrong again.

I don't think it's all that bad but just frustratingly slow.

I'd applaud this post if we still could (bring :claping hands: back)

As we can't, a like will have to suffice ;)

well said

also whilst i expect few more permanent signings yet we need to remember that we have loans to sprinkle some magic on this squad yet. if we can find another JM or AA it will be huge.

i still personally holding out hope we get AA back on loan..
