Thorn will be sacked today surely? (6 Viewers)

As soon as i read the telegraph yesterday with the head line Thorn : Im the man for the club (or close as), and then read on to listen to what seemed like a desperate man making a desperate plea to keep his job. . . He is on his way that is obvious. I guarantee he doesnt work in management again.

I think the problem we have regards the manager (and only regards the manager) is that when a club is in crisis on the pitch the fact is you need experience and maturity, as well as a few cards up your sleeve. Unfortunately Thorn is not a manager and does not possess the skills above. We are a club in dire trouble we need to bring in players, the question is would these players come for Andy Thorn ( a scout not a manager ) or would they come for Aidy Boothroyd, Ron Atkinson, Bobby, and so on so on, all manager that did a job in saving us from relegation uopn their arrival into the club.

Taking a potshot on Andy Thorn was a good idea if you ask me and upto a point he bought in some love for the players in the dressing room and was a good influence upon them, however his inexperience is showing, i think our team has equates to a patient with a brain tumor ... would you want a dental surgoen 'giving brain surgery a go on you' simply because he knows his way around the hospital ? no.

I see us beat again today, i see the club sacking Thorn by 9pm tonight and installing someone with experience by tuesday. If i am wrong it will simply be a week or two before it happens. What frightens me is they leave it until it is too late. We could be down by Feb. we deserve to go down in all honesty.

I thought the same thing when I read that yesterday...sounded like a desperate man's final plea. I think if this run continues any longer then SISU will have to sack him-not saying they should or shouldn't-as keeping him in the job with such an abysmal record will be an admittance that they haven't given him the tools to do the job

we were always going down this season, everyone said that in August, so why sack a man for doing a job as expected?? It's not as if we've being playing terribly and getting hammered every week, the squad is just too weak to survive.

I think even the fantastic board and Orange Juice Face know he is not great...

But he was always the cheap option.

Can't see AT getting sacked just a day after Ken gave up the reins as chairman to help him out more...

Maybe well sack KD as well? I like Thorn but I'd take that hit to get rid of him.

Comparing Thorn to anyone else bar perhaps McAllister is silly. Every other manager had been allowed to build a team.

True, but neither of those managers had to play a handful of their youth team in the Championship.
It's very difficult to judge Thorn due to the appalling squad he has inherited.
The best way to judge Thorn would be if he had a similar squad at his disposal....but that's not possible.
He was always likely to be SISU's fall guy

So were we wrong to get rid of Coleman or Aidy?

Stats suggest they are twice as good as Thorn.

Didn't Coleman and Hoofryd get twice the budget than Thorn ?

I would suggest that stats are effected by player budgets and what players the manager had at the time.

That's a point now hes not chairman if he doesn't do what he says he is going to do then surely he will be??

Boothroyd got a similar budget maybe a little bigger but he worked within it, Coleman spent over 3 million??? Thorn has brought in 3 players 2 of which dont play!!!!

If we lose today he needs to go as I think he is tactically not good enough.makes the wrong decision what manager would be losing at home and bring a defender on instead of the 4 hundred thousand striker he's just bought.AT that's who

We need a miracle.

Must win at least 10 games out of the next 27.

Something like this maybe:

P 27
W 10
D 8
L 9

That plus results so far should make us to 51 points which is average survival territory over last 10 seasons in this league.

is it possible ???

Same old crap I see.

AT took over a club on their way down. We had a few good players, but mainly a squad that needed a few more players added to it with a bit more quality. Instead, most of the better players left. We lost one of, if not the best GK's in this division. We lost one of, if not the best strikers in this division. We lost one of the best defenders in this division. We lost a midfielder that created chances. We lost even more players.

We were not good enough to challenge the teams in the top half even before we lost all these players. AT has had to put up with losing all these players and then not be able to replace them. We were a bottom half of the table club before we lost these players. Now AT is not good enough as we are not having a miracle of a season. We are playing better football now. We are lacking a cutting edge. Gardner can help the next few weeks at least as we need his type of player. All of our goalscoring players have gone but Juke. This is the main reason we are where we are. Would another manager get players that can't score suddenly scoring goals?

Absolute rot. He is not getting the best out of the players, playing best system, pushing on or making chances. The football is NOT better. We are utterly toothless and he is toothless in his ability to try and change things. This is as well as not because of an unthinkable lack of investment. He is not getting 100% out of what he has.

To and bottom of it is that Thorn is a SCOUT end of.... no matter how far down the football pecking order we have fallen we are still too big a club ,with a history of competing with the top clubs, to have put a novice in charge of us!!.. he was installed because SISU dont give a fook about what we do on the pitch and hes cheap.... They are killing OUR CLUB !!

Exactly! Thorn as manager is equivalent to 'integrating the academy with the first team'. No link whatsoever to improving the only thing that matters - on the pitch - and all to do with paying and investing nothing.

Nigel Adkins started as Scunthorpe's physio - that's even further away from a managerial position. Thing's aren't that simple.

True... but he had managed Bangor city for four years previous to going to Scunthorpe with a win ratio of 61%, he also was only caretaker manager at scuthorpe and was given the job due to the success he achieved ..... Thorn has show no apptitude to being a success in the role.. and i dont want to hear hes nothing to work with.. i think hes a decent bloke but he does not have the tactical skills or motivational drive to get the best out of the team

I haven't advocated the sacking of Thorn, yet, and believe he has had a particularly poisoned challice here since being manager. However we are i believe in a last chance saloon situation now, 7 points from safety is a tough prospect to overcome but not impossible. I do think Thorn is trying to play the right way but it ain't working, okay for an hour or so in a game but is not earning wins. Someone at the club, god knows who now as we hardly have a board left has to decide can someone get better results out of this current crop of players than Andy, staying up is the priority not pretty pretty football. I would take route one big boot ugly football if it guarenteed points and survival. The next 5 fixtures are all winnable and we need a minimum 10 points from them and even then we will probably still be in the bottom 3. I would give Thorn the next 2 games today and Hull if we don't win one has to be bye-bye AT.
