I don't get what you mean redistribute the wealth?

Both teams get 45% of gate receipts and the other 10% goes to the football league....

nice moan though
If they made all the seeded teams play away, the 'lesser' teams might then have a better chance of going through and hence a bigger slice of the pot. Bradford have done fairly well out of it in recent seasons.

Bigger slice of what pot? The money is yo be made from gate receipts. A 3rd Round tie at Old Trafford is like winning the lottery for smaller teams. Don't see how making thst less likely is better for them

It's only one round. It is hardly wealth redistribution if the draw means many lower league teams may be out after the 2ND round.

Nice smart comment though.

I'll try once more....had we been drawn at home against Norwich, I would suggest we have a better chance of beating them. The more progress we make and maybe a big payday in the later rounds would give us a bigger slice of the overall pot.

If they have to have seeded teams, then at least make them play away to give the lower league teams a fighting chance of making the most financially from it. Do we really want to see say Chelsea v Man U in the semi final? Neither team needs the money which would be a lifeline to any L1 or L2 club.

I understand the point you're making don't worry, its just extremely flawed.

If Crawley were playing Chelsea in the 2nd Round of the League cup, do you think Crawley would prefer to play them at Stamford Bridge or Broadfield stadium? Your point seems to be that Crawley have a better chance of winning playing them at Broadfield. Really? I would question that, but even if it's true, I think this would be marginal. Would this potential marginal increase in their chances of winning, be worth sacrificing: 0.45*(~42,000 - 6000)*price of a ticket? A rough calculation tells me that would be the difference of £500k, just to play at home?
That's a huge amount of money to a team like Crawley, and I think you'd have to be mad or stupid to think they would prefer a home game....

Firstly, I think that's a slightly different point to Ranjit's. His was around the seeded teams being automatically at home, yours seems to be about there being seeded teams at all?
If that's because of wealth distribution as you say, I don't really follow that logic either. If we were drew against a league 2 team, then a league one team, then a lower end championship team, and got knocked out....we'd have had what, a cumulative attendance of....30,000 maybe? (5k first game, 10k second game, 15k third game?) I think the chances of having that kind of attendance is pretty similar to if we were drew against a seeded team no?

Taking money out the equation (if only...), then I would understand an argument against seeded teams if it's just for the joy of having a cup run.

look why does everything on internet need to be an black and white argument?

fact:integrity of cup is hurt with seeding, it lowers odds of a smaller team winning it
fact:this is balanced out with increased odds of a pay day vs bigger team

the end.

I follow your point too Robbie, just think the authorities have missed a trick with this cock eyed seeding system.
Let's hope we can beat Norwich and get Chelsea at home in the next round :)
