Injuries/Fitness (2 Viewers)

Already our thin squad looks like being stretched by injuries and we're only three games into the season...

Stokes - out for months, don't think we'll see him this side of Christmas. The signings of Page, Turnbull and the Finnish guy suggest to me he is out for a long time.

Thomas - Missed all of pre-season through injury, stretchered off 5 mins into his debut. Hopefully I'm wrong but it looked like an x months rather than x weeks injury.

Rose - Took a bad knock last night, had his knee put into a brace. Mowbray said he's tweaked a ligament, hopefully it will be a few weeks rather than months.

Sordell - Off injured at half time of the opening game, no sign of him since.

Jones - Missed most of pre season with a groin issue, tweaked it again last night and could barely walk at full time, wouldn't be surprised to see him out for a couple of weeks

Reid - Another who missed all of pre season, doesn't look fit enough to play 90 mins at the moment.

I agree. That's because we can only attract players nobody wants or are liable to injury. How many players do we sign who go straight into our first team without delay? Injured. Not fit. Too young. Too old. Desperate again last night. Not one single shot on target. How we miss Armstrong and Murphy

Yet some clown was having an absolute meltdown last night on the phone in because we've signed 21 year old...

Injuries mounting up. So much for the small squad theory, it only works if you don't pick up many injuries.

All our signings for this season played in our first match of this season. Sordell, Jones, Reid, Gadzhev. Turnbull will probably go into the team for Bradford. I'm as pissed off as anyone that we've got 1 striker and a small squad 4 games into the season but the first part of your whinge is nonsense and I assume based on last seasons January transfer window.

Where did you sit at the game last night? Bloke near me was harping on about the same stuff.

He went from "I cant believe we paid a fee" to "SISU won't pay a free, we only get frees" within about 2 minutes.

The best bit was the guy on the phone in last night who was gassing about how SISU aren't investing and thats why we have no players. The CWR presented said well hold on, we've just paid a fee for Turnball a really promising signing.

And his reply was "yeh but that's the first time we've paid a fee for a player in how long???".

Despite the fact we paid a fee for Jones, Vincelot, among a few others.

I really hope people dont feel they are representative cov fans

Too many of our fans are wrapped up in blind hate to want to actually see what is fact and what isn't.

Like the guy who sat near me last night, he got him so worked up and so angry about stuff. The other blokes with him were then getting worked up and they were all going off about stuff and it didn't matter whether it was fact or not.

A lot of fans just want to see headline signings & success. They're not interested in anything deeper.
However they are the customers & if you don't give the customer what he wants he isn't going to pay.

I know it's early doors but from what I've seen so far it's just not good enough from Sisu & TM

The lack of goals and goal scoring opportunities is a big worry

Have we signed the Finnish fella then ? I hope on Jones's case it hasn't become more serious but from what I witnessed he was holding his groin after the first challenge, same Saturday with Thomas first physical challenge and that was him crocked. Playing players under 100% fit is a risk but playing injured players just plain daft.

The thing is, Mowbray has signed 2 strikers already. (3 if you include re-signing Tudgay).

does my head in Nick! why do they think that if we pay a fee for a player that they are going to be world beaters? we are in the 1st Division and we have first division/nearly championship level players and the only world beaters we will get are either home produced or players trying to get their fitness levels up (cole & mcann)

I just think people don't seem to realise we are in League 1, and how things tend to work in League 1.

the thread title was 'injuries/fitness' & as far as injuries are concerned;
Jones - been kicked at every opportunity by opposing players with ZERO protection by referees,
particularly that useless piece of shit who reffed the Swindon/CCFC game,
Reid - ditto, as far as ref protection is concerned, piss poor from officials,
Sordell - booked in the Swindon game for a silly but harmless challenge, after receiving 4 or 5 clogging tackles, with no cards shown to their defenders,
Thomas.K - comparatively unlucky, & didn't need to be kicked in the head, yes well done to another useless shit of a referee
Rose - the subject of a very physical challenge, & yes, again, ZERO from the referee,
this despite the newly issued edict from the FA to referees to protect players,
as for fitness, i think it's wide of the mark to criticise our players
we may be in league one but we're getting sunday league officials,
therein for me lies a huge proportion of the blame

ZERO protection by referees
I don't know what we do about this but it can't carry on. Problem is if Mowbray complains about it there's more chance of it getting worse than better as it will piss the refs off.

I don't watch any other teams at this level but does it happen to others or are certain players being targeted as they are trying to play a more skilful game?

You would expect, even if the refs are missing things, the assessors would be highlighting it.

TM after the Shrews match was openly honest, imho. about the performance of that ref, & surely the officials should be man enough to accept criticism,
it did look as if he was hugely favouring them,
& it does make you wonder whether the assessors, as previous referees, are being protective of the refs,
e.g. players are supposedly not allowed to surround the ref, yet, at the Swindon game, 3 or 4 of their men were at the ref gesticulating for a card, which Sordell got, i question whether the ref was marked down for that,
the FA are supposed to enforce their own edicts, & referees should be able to accept criticism,
it does make one wonder just what are the FA doing
i listened to JFH, the QPR mgr re a certain Darren Bond, after their match &he was scathing in his opinion of the ref,
i sincerely hope these realistic comments are taken on board by the FA

It's football. People will get injuries. Sometimes it's bad luck, sometimes players have certain weaknesses, sometimes clubs push people who aren't fit just a bit too hard. Every club has it. It's not like we're special.

georgehudson

i wasn't saying for 1 minute that we're special,
the point i made was that we along with other clubs we suffer from poor officialdom,
& that with our style of play, where we attempt to play football, we are getting less protection from refs, who consider because it's league 1 it's ok to go & kick a side off the park,
a classic example of which was when Jones, just after half time raided down the left in a forward position, & with their right sided defender to beat, was met with something approximating a forearm smash, this was waved away by Joyce as a fair challenge, my arse it was !!!
these instances are something the FA should sort out by drumming it in to the thick heads who masquerade as officials
