As I thought Ojala deal was off as soon as we signed Turnbull.

Smith knees is back at Hitchin.

Mogga hopefull of some more bodies over the next few weeks.

I think he believes we probably have enough bodies in defence now, but whether they are promotion material I don't know. An injury to Turnbull for example, and i think the gaps would start to show.

I know we've barely conceded yet, but we haven't been tested to any real level yet.

It's a shame, the sound of a Finnish international in defence would have been nice.

Not bringing in some kind of reinforcement for the defence worries me. Any injuries and we are thin on the ground in terms of quality.
Unless he's now more thinking of using the loan market instead of a permanent?

Either way, I'm still fearful for the season without more bodies of a higher level in this team.

He hasn't said he's not bringing in his defensive reinforcements. He's just said he doesn't want to bring Ojala or Smith in.

The way he was talking in the pres conference seemed to hint that he wasn't.

“Can we afford to carry another full-back when you can argue Rose, Dion and Jordan Willis can fill that role?"
“The Finnish boy did fine - but he looked like he was recovering from a long term injury. He’s played at a high level of football, but we don’t have time to get him up to speed and we went for somebody who could hit the ground running for us.”

Just sounds final, we went for this option, no comment on further players being looked at for this position. He might just not be mentionning it, but as it stands I really hope he has something in the pipeline and hes playing his cards close to his chest.

He maybe doesn't want another right back, perhaps fair enough. He's got cover there like he says. He doesn't say anything about centre back; just doesn't want somebody who isn't fit. If he considers that Willis could be RB cover then logically another centre back is needed to cover Willis' position.

Hopefully you're correct

Are any of these players any good at right back? I'd rather play at least two of them in other positions.

I think Willis is a good CB and the 3 x CB line-up suits his game. I also think he will get better, but no way is he a wing back

I wouldnt be surprised to see Willis at wing back tomorrow.

With Rose out I don't think we can afford to play DKE there against a physical Bradford side.

So I would expect Willis right wing back with Ricketts, Turnbull and Harries in the middle.

Or he could go back to a flat back 4 and perhaps leave Harries out (who has been excellent, but again his physicality would be a worry against Hanson and co.

Think he is looking to bring in another centre back. If you look at the options we have now. We have Harries, Willis, Ricketts, Turnbull, Finch. McCann can also play there however his main role is going to be in the CM position. Only 4 of those are starters, Finch just isn't ready. Realistically he has to be looking at one more which is likely to be a loan. If he's claiming more bodies are coming in surely this is a position that is a priority as he's always reiterated that he wants two CB's to come in.

RWB is also a position i think we do need to be looking at despite TM's comments because Rose looks very uncomfortable in that role. Not sure why TM thinks he's an adequate candidate for starting in that position all season or why we don't need cover. Willis can't play there because he doesn't get up enough, he's a solid centre back and has done fantastic so far in that right sided CB role.

I did think it was a bit mental that some people were saying they hope we sign these two. I really doubt anyone has seen either play.

Granted we need bodies but our budget is tight and if they had their chance to impress on trial and failed then I'm happy to see them leave.

Mowbray has had a good look at both. If he ain't convinced I am happy. I think we have one or two of our own who are capable of game time here and there. I don't want signings for the sake of it. I would rather save a bit of budget and not be forced to sell a body in January.

I see your point, but if the budget is comparable to last season - At this rate, how are we even close to having to sell a body in January?

I reckon the Finn is probably good enough, and I reckon the injury was a jibe that he knew would get the fans on his side. The later comments excused those statements as well, as he effectively admitted we signed Turnbull instead. It probably means he has decided to use the remaining budget to cover other areas on the pitch.

Yes I know we're in league one, I know we have to play some of the kids. If we sign another 5 players including a centre back I'll revise my point, but I can't see it happening. I feel this was budget related.

Surely TM doesn't think Harries, DKE, Haynes et al are good enough to be regularly playing in a team mounting a promotion challenge in league one?
