So another manager goes.

I have read much guff on the subject today. I have seen many managers come and go - not too many were sublime (Sillett was the best) but many ridiculous (Gould, Coleman, Adams) and some just plain garbage (Thorn and MacKay)

Where would we class Mowbray? Well in truth I would say he has left me more angry than any.

Thorn was a buffoon who hadn't a clue.

Mowbray certainly had a clue. A high pedigree manager with a great reputation. A real Beef Wellington in a division that is more used to the taste of a Fray Bentos steak pie.

Then we get to a position of top of the league. We have Murphy who now looks destined for the premier league, a free scoring centre forward and Mowbray at the helm.

Then the crash. From league champions elect to the worst team in the league. Promotion gone.

I felt his performance last season post Christmas was beyond unacceptable

We are now obsessed budgets. Even the ridiculous (Gould) and the garbage (Mackay) managed with a rag tag squad of players to maintain focus, energy, momentum and belief. Minimum expectancy from a manager
They, despite their limitations, managed to get an over achievement from mediocre players.

Mowbray's abject failure to at least achieve play offs from the position the club was in and the players at his disposal was enough to justify his dismissal. His lamentable performance this season made it inevitable.

He has failed the club and he has failed the fans.

I have just cut into my Beef Wellington and it looks a bit like Fray Bentos to me - and it leaves a very bitter taste.

I genuinely believe he should have as a bare minimum achieved top 6 last season - no excuse - that was his failure and his alone

That coming from a man who claimed not that long ago that if we get a top six finish this season SISU *SISU* would have delivered our best finish in decades. Duality, duality, duality # fullofshit

Yes I agree but Armstrong Murphy and Maddison papered over the cracks for me Grendel. We hit the "trump cards" to quote mowbray. His point was you can't keep pulling rabbits out of the hat and rely on loans. That was his point. He is right.

Furthermore if Armstrong Maddison and Murphy with fleck and vincelot and Johnson had all stayed and added 3 sterling additions over the summer we can build and this is exactly what TM was saying. He went on to say the club need to invest at some point. It's around 6 million on promotion to the championship so 3m for Maddison isn't worth it all the time. You need to build and not loans and sell.

Before anyone comes back and says well other league 1 clubs do this. Well I like to think we are better than them and mowbray knows his stuff. He is right Grendel. Don't let top of the league in November fool you. It's a 46 game season. It's a marathon.

End of the day the "ingredients aren't there to achieve promotion" he said it. He knows the deal

He said we have to go better than last season, which most would agree with. He has watched 10 games seen no path to gaining that and decided it's time to let someone else try.

So I have posted before it's understandable what has happened with him going. It just begs the question about what he knows that we don't within the club. And how realistic is it to gain any success with the club's overall plan.

It isn't possible. That's the point. The bigger picture is if I'm wrong and we got promoted by a miracle then we would come straight back down. Surely. No progress really.

End of the day mowbray was just telling us what we all deep down know. The ambition the effort the desire is just to let the fans pay for the club and be that as it may. Self funding. Which basically means league 2 here we come.

Seriously though not sure how we consistently purchase Fray Bentos camoflouged as Beef Wellington.
No one can be that unlucky that many times, is it 8 or 9 times that mistake has happened to us now? I think you maybe on the wrong track. Something else maybe the issue.

Some times Gren you post some good comments, this though is complete bollocks. I don't know what you do for a living but try being a taxi driver without a taxi and see how far it gets you. The reference to Gould getting the best out of mediocre players is crap too. He was able to buy those players not scrap around in the loan market or take some has-been that's out for one last payday. Admittedly form in the second part of the season last year was not what we all wanted but we did still go close. If your budget is halved what do you expect the man to do?

TM has to take some responsibility, for example he could have kept Martin, who was a permanent and experienced player in an area that has most definitely lacked experience.

Could we have kept Martin? Was his wage a stumbling block? We all can assume the budget was cut in the summer we just don't know how much.

He basically said it, he was dealt a bad hand this season, made some high risk calls which did not happen and was stuck with nothing much an no way to change it.

That is how it goes. Has happened to other teams will happen to more.

No real options but to take a chance, could have been lucky like season, not sure what the odds are, but pretty long.

Obviously... but it didn't have to be this way. There were problems along the way of SISU's creation, but also of TM's.

That said I think the Sordell signing will turn out to be a good one in the future for us.

Think that you are making Grendel's point for him there.

The team had all those players the second half of last season, but performed abysmally in comparison to the first half of the season.

Can't say too much about Mowbray myself, only game saw under him was Scunthorpe away, and that was one of the worst fucking performances I've ever seen, during our good spell as well apparently!

hard to argue that the results in 2016 have been anything but poor. We got found out, he meddled with a winning formula, invested in journeymen on the premise we needed experience and it back fired. I think many fans could have accepted just missing out on top six but it wasn't really close following the run of results December to March. It is not unreasonable to argue given the start we had that top six was attainable, even to be expected - something went seriously wrong and the manager played a big part in that.

This season he gambled on the player market and read it all wrong - the dynamics have changed and both he and Venus seem to have messed up. Doesn't bode well if Venus is staying and taking over. He has been the one dealing with budgets and contracts. It is however hard to argue that TM has had substantial backing in pulling a proper squad together - the owners budget has been the gospel to live or die by. Yes we bought Jones, yes we bought Turnbull, but the underlying base of the squad was/is young inexperienced boys in a mans L1. It was a transfer policy of cycling down costs. The Maddison money received was clearly not substantial and may be in the club but it isn't massively influencing the squad (or perhaps it is and things could have been much worse). And yet the club have started adding to is back room staff whilst apparently having declining total income & less work to do because they have franchised it out.

Was always going to be hard with such a young squad, was always going to require a big strong defence - they miscalculated missed out and TM got the results he did this season. Yes they missed out on 6 but a number of them appeared to be their choice, but I would think a major reason for missing out on most players were the wages we are prepared to pay. That hints at the financial problems we have. Some of his match decisions however are/were certainly questionable

My guess is that there is much more going on in the background, particularly regarding the finances. The owners stance of parking the club in immediate self sufficiency has bitten at a time of rising player costs, whilst poor performance on the pitch has squeezed income

I think his decision to go was the right one. TM seems an honourable man, truthful, and hard working. For many reasons, some of which he controlled and some he did not he failed.

Business as usual? yes pretty much the same as it has been for the last 20 years or so. We do seem however at the moment to be in a perfect storm with finances and playing matters

Beginning to think with the restrictions & expectations attached to being manager of CCFC is an impossible job
