It wouldn't be unusual to see top earners on 500 a week in the league above so imagine what you will

Christ, if you had a half decent job, not sure it'd be worth your while going full-time if that was your top-up to your main income.

I know a friend of mine who played league football, finished playing for Grimsby when they went down to the conference. He refused to discuss football wages, however the closest conversation we got out of him whilst he was playing for Grimsby, he agreed some non league players (conference level, 2009-10) would be on £5,000 a week, but not as much as £10,000 a week.

for a balanced view. the last 4 games theyve lost, 3 were cup i believe, they have 7 games in hand over the league leaders and currently , around 15 points behind
the 'real' leaders are westfields
they also have games in hand over the leaders, but have also won their first 10 games, but lost the last 2 in the league, so theyve hit a buffer it would seem

if both utd and westfields were to win half their games in hand they'd both be 1st and 2nd in the league
i would be surprised if utd dont get promoted this year, they do have half a team of players that played in a higher level last year

No chance they'll go up this season.

That's the league above, and you're still way off the mark. Bedworth lads are paid between 100-200 quid a week and they're 2/3 levels higher than Cov United.

For the league they're in the average is about 80 quid a week, Sphinx pay there players about 30 quid a game tops and not every player gets paid. Cov Utd have players on 450 quid a fucking week.

They're a joke.

How do they generate the money to pay players? The crowds are tiny and there can't be that much in sponsorship.

Wealthy backers.

Thing is they've signed money lovers like Mackey and Thornton who whilst very talented, don't give a single fuck about football and chase the highest wages.

Players of that age arent going to be picked up by clubs league clubs anymore, at this stage in their career if someone is offering them good money then fair fucks to them.

Oh yeah I don't begrudge them at all. But players like that don't get you out of leagues, they bleed your club dry and run off for an extra 30 quid a week at the drop of a hat. Players like Thornton and Mackey aren't suited to non league at all.

Don't know about Thornton but hasn't Mackey got a very good goalscoring record wherever he's played?

why all the hate, why are some so bitter?

wealth equals good right?
wouldnt we rather be man city or chelsea rather than sisucfc ?

i'll have a word and ask a 'who much' question next time im there

yes they have wealthy backers, maybe not as 'paper wealthy ' as you all may think tho, JT , one of the onwers lives in a terraced house bhind the craftsman ffs

as for where the 'wages' come from, they have a ' subs paying' academy for one, theyve got 250 players on their books, avarge 120-150 paying £5 i believe, at the gates , kids are free
they sell merch, and, i assume, probably have some kind of tax thing to spread their (all 4 of the owners )wealth

so what if a couple players are big bucks, i seriously dought its £450 a week tho, some people on here were convinced they paid a grand a week last season , where do you guys get your ideas from lol

wouldnt it be nice to have a cash injection here? or shall we just be happy to be bled dry?

Well he's hardly scored at Cov Utd. Pretty sure he plays midfield now aswell.
thorton definitely just on the pitch for the rough stuff in middle, mackey was out injured for first part of the season, scored a hattrick on his debut, not sure but i think hes been out injured again because hasnt played in alll the fixtures since his debut

For me it the fact that they took over and rebranded another club and then tried to take advantage of our situation by making out they were some sort of protest club.
The money thing does bug me, although as you say if someone wanted to do a Man City with us I wouldn't be complaining.

Wasn't referring to Cov Utd in particular. Meant more in general how were teams at that level paying players. If you look at Sphinx for example they have a ground to maintain and I would have through limited income. Is it the case that even at that level you're looking at an owner being prepared to lose money?

Hang on, their academy players pay subs, and that money is used to pay first team wages hahaha

250 kids paying 5-10 per week, and you don't think that's being spilled throughout the Club
I would have thought it would have paid for the facilities (they use moathouse leisure centre 2-3 days a week, st Georges park, etc), traveling, pay for the teaching staff and full time coaches , equipment, etc.

Its not that I don't believe you, that I'm horrified that they would identify players for their academy and dupe them into paying subs so they can pay their first term. Its a disgrace with that's happening.

And £10 subs, that's extortionate.

Sure do read some bollox on here. Just to put the record straight, they have 2,000 academy players paying £1,000 per week for their football education.
They all train on half the pitch at Moat House at a cost of 50p. The supporters club sell hats and scarves at £10 to the local kids, who all attend their home games at Sphinx.
Their stewards demand admission charges from kids and pensioners with menaces and all the first teamers are on £5k per week with big fat win bonuses and a carve up of TV revenues.
Even Wasps players are thinking of quitting to join them.

True. Had to work till eight. Managed to catch second half man city v barca though. Decent, but no real substitute for missing win over Chesterfield.

Cov Utd completed the double over Sphinx this weekend. They're lying 6th, probably finish there, Sphinx are 9th.
