Hi guys,

I'm in Australia for most of this season so not had chance to watch any games, just wondering what the view is on Conor Thomas? He seems to be a regular first teamer this season, is he showing the potential that Liverpool saw in him?

The boys looking solid generally ,however its amassive ask in a team thats struggling so much ,most games there only seem to be two or three players that stand out as fully commited throughout the 90,he like Cyrus have shone generally but make occassional blunders ,and run out of steam around 70-80 mins ,its a massive ask physically and mentally.

I was excited about Thomas demanding a place in the first team but really it seems as though he is playing through lack of options. I don't think at the moment he looks good enough to play at this level. Its difficult to see what he offers to the team. I have friends who in the last few games have really got on his back because they think he shouldn't be playing and although I don't blame him as its not his fault I have to agree with them.He doesn't demonstrate intelligence on the pitch with or without the ball, he doesn't move into space, he doesn't move with the ball, he mistimes tackles, all the attributes you would expect from a youngster low on confidence.
In contrast Bigi is looking a much better prospect. With a little more confidence could grow into a good professional footballer.

IMO Thomas is a far better player than Bigi and I am finding it quite hard to believe that you think Thomas mistimes tackles. Bigi has great technique admittedly but is physically not ready for this level. Thomas is much more physical than Bigi and gets in some brilliant slide tackles and has great composure. Not sure what you class as intelligence regarding Thomas? He fills in at right back when Cyrus has bombed on, plays the ball to feet and I am not sure I have seen him rush a ball.

This is going against popular opinion I know, but Thomas is, and will be better than Bigi.

I agree with 99% of the above, although I think it's a bit early to predict that one will be better than the other as player mature differently - they only turned 18 last month.

I think people get blinded by brig's flamboyance and expect the same from Thomas - they are completely different types of players.

I wouldn't call him lacking intelligence, but maybe short on composure. He can certainly tackle, but I have grave concerns about his positioning. He sits too deep, doesn't get tight to his man in defensive situations and doesn't know when to go wide in this formation. He's capable of some decent passing, but also gives it away 2 or 3 times a match with hospital balls.

I will defend his tackling-he generally makes 1 or 2 stunning tackles to win 70-30 balls every game. He's undoubtedly learning from his experiences this season, and gives his all. But I do agree that he's pretty much playing because there's no one else; like all of our youngsters, he looks like the pressure of being at the bottom of the table and playing every week are taking its toll on him, and he could do with a month away from the side.

Thanks guys, it will be interesting to see how Thomas and Bigi develop - hopefully as City players!

All these kids are getting destroyed by this season it's one of the biggest tragedies of our whole sorry story. If I had their professional interests at heart I would be looking for a safer more nurturing berth for any of them in the transfer window that'll be a damn sight more useful for them in the long run of their careers - we are ruining 'em right now.

Totally agree with TOF... at best this will knock their development back a season or two.
I've been unlucky with Bigi, when I've seen him, he's not shone, apart from the odd composed touch - however, many whose opinions I value have said there have been games when he's been immense for his age. Conor, on my observations, is closer to the finished article (although still a way to go as others have observed).
Looking forwards to seeing Bigi at his best though!
Hopefully they will go under the radar of other clubs scouts now... although I doubt it somehow. Fingers crossed

Even though we are losing games and that affects confidence, as for their careers I think they are learning the quick way. By the time they move on (which they will) they will have maybe over 40 second tier appearances, and they have been better than the experienced players IMO. That will help them progress quicker in my eyes. I remember Jermaine Pennant at Notts County, he broke into their first team at 16 and decided to move to Arsenal where he only made a handful of appearances in about 5 years. If he'd stayed at County I think he would have played a lot more first team football and maybe had a more successful (in terms of international recognition) career. So to summarise it's sometimes better that the youngsters go out and play first team games rather than stagnate in some premier league reserve team (as Thomas would have done if he went to Liverpool).

Biggie started the season better, but Conor Thomas has been better on the whole. I thought he was the best player on the pitch v West Ham.

There are lots of examples of players who are getting first team football at lower league clubs and leaving to join premier league teams and completely losing there way. John Bostock being a prime example. I hope Bigi, Thomas and Cyrus stay with us for at least 2 more years as this will help them develop best in my opinion.

The only bright spot in this season so far has been the emergence of the youngsters. Think they are all a credit to the academy and more importantly themselves. They wont have a great game every week but you cannot fault their effort and enthusiasm - there are a few senior players that could learn from the youngsters attitude. Think Conor Thomas , Bigiramana, Christie and Cameron will all go on to better things but not for a season or two hopefully
