A striker (9 Viewers)

Today and games before it proves we need a striker. Where are we going to get one from and who is possibly worth considering?

Could just use the half decent one we have on the wing.

I think in January we need to sack off the loan strikers we have back to Burnley and West Brom. Judge McBeans fitness and if he isn't going to cut it then send him back as it's pointless him being in the U23's.

Then 2 decent strikers and a nasty midfielder and we look a bit more promising.

We also need to play the dark arts of the game a bit more.

give McBean and Sordell a chance up top, with Reid and Jones on the wings

We've seen the games with Jones and Reid on the pitch at the same time it doesn't work as both are same footed and neither can use their other foot.

Have thought before they'd be a danger but against Morcombe (was it they both played? I've slept since then) they just weren't

Agreed, if we're going to play Reid on the left, we really need a right footed winger on the right. Jones just cuts in and goes into the middle of thr pitch where its most congested.

442 also seems to make our central midfield area more vulnerable - bigi and Stevenson just can't dominate the ball without the extra man. Not sure what the answer is - but all 3 our main first team recoginised wingers are left footed - Reid, Jones and Lamieres. Then you're into the likes of Spence, etc

Leicester did pretty well last season with a left-footed player on the right wing. Can't quite remember his name though...

I would also love to see us try a 4-4-2. Perfect chance to try it in the FA Cup replay this week.

Mahrez. Yes, but we aren't Leicester and we don't have a player of thr quality or the amount if goals as mahrez (in thr context of the league) to play on the right hand side. We have too many left footers, we do need some balance
In thr attacking midfield options.

We tried 442 for the first 60 mins against Chesterfield and got outplayed, and did the same against Morecambe last week and got out played.

Marhez is quick enough to get to the byline , Jones never gets that far - it must be top of the competitive intelligence - if Jones comes on he will cut in at the 18 yard line same as night following day !

We need to start with Sordell up the front as a central striker and also with one out of Reid or Jones upfront who can alternate during their game time on the left or right side, using the other to replace when they get bolloxed running at the defenders but never both players at the same time. We lost out with Bigi having to come out and pressure the backs because Agyie and Wright did'nt do their job if you ask me. You are spot on Nick we do need to practice the dark arts as you say because Graham Alexander has certainly drilled their midfield to hit the deck as soon as they are touched.

Is it possible that bigi was playing to instruction doing the pressing?
Although in isolation it's not very effective.
My criticism of Wright in the first half would be that he seemed glued to the flank and didn't come in to supplement in the box when we were creating opportunities from other areas.

And then just drifting left with neither a shot or lay off.
As others have said, try him from the left, or soon enough he will be driftwood, doesn't look like he's going to plan, I doubt we signed him on a four year deal to settle for U23 football.

At this point I'd be playing 433 with Sordell on one wing, Reid on the other & Wright in the middle. Midfield of Bigi, Rose & Stevenson. McBean, Jones & Lameiras on the bench.

Might just see us through to Christmas, then get 1-2 real strikers in.

I wonder if there are any conditions re playing in the loan agreements
I said that to my mate yesterday, I really hope we don't extend them in Jan, there has to be better players available than Agyei and Wright.

I too would like to see Wright given a chance down the middle, it's too early to write him off imo

Wright needs to go and play some u23s football and mcbean should be given a run - hes done well in his 2 appearances.

Jones, in my honest opinion, was bought and only given cameos in games ready to be sold in January. Anyone notice that he's brought into games with 20-25 minutes left where their LB is tiring and slow, whereby his freshness and speed makes him look pretty good to outsiders?

Whilst I agree he was brought in with the view to develop and sell, I don't believe we are only bringing him on the last 20 minutes to make him look good in order to sell. The truth is he's not ready to play week in week out from the start. Even at Dagenham and Redbridge he was mainly used as a sub. If he was producing the goods he'd be starting most weeks.

Quick players will always be more effective against tiring defenders, we even saw this with Murphy last season, he'd be poor/anonymous for 70 mins then be unplayable last 20.

Jones just lacks a brain and a right foot. Nothing wrong with playing inverted wingers but they have to mix up play and go around the outside at times too. He only does one thing and that makes him predictable. We played right footed Murphy on the left and he would go either way. This and the final ball and decision making is what Jones needs to develop in order to command a starting berth.

I would hope a scout at another club would be bright enough to work that out.

Don't you think Scouts would be clever enough to realise? They will also see his one dimension and no end product. It's not a car they are warming up before somebody comes to have a look.

Maybe, he is brought on when they are tired because he is more effective then?
