Every tim,e Jones cuts in and runs across, not at the defenders. They just stand their ground, stick out a foot and take the ball off him. Must be one of the easiest players to defend against..

It's very frustrating because he must have the skills - just doesn't know how to play football - a common fault in many of today's youngsters.

They're not wingers as such if you play a 4-3-2-1 formation, which is what I was thinking. Cole would do more running in 1 game than Wright and Agyei do all season.

Tbf, that's when he was in his 20's and had thr legs to do it. He's what 35 now? He just hasn't got the legs to play there, he looked at his best for us when we played him central and in a deeper role with licence to get forward when he wanted to. He could do a job in our central 3 but he would struggle as a winger.

You've got that from Wikipedia. He played on the wing in his twenties.

He was here last season, did you actually watch him? He can't beat a man anymore, he's slow as shit and in all honesty, he's just not very good.

Jones just lacks a brain and a right foot. Nothing wrong with playing inverted wingers but they have to mix up play and go around the outside at times too. He only does one thing and that makes him predictable. We played right footed Murphy on the left and he would go either way. This and the final ball and decision making is what Jones needs to develop in order to command a starting berth.

I think Reid would be more effective than Jones cutting in from the right. We should switch them about during the game.

Gary McSheffrey has had his say on the game so far. The City legend and former Scunthorpe player is here doing radio work. This is what he had to say about the first half: “I think Scunthorpe started well and missed really good chance from Madden when Burgey made a great save. Coventry then started to dominate possession - all in the middle third again - and they’ve ground Scunthorpe down a bit.

“I just get a bit concerned for Coventry because they grind it down and have good possession in midfield and then there’s never really that threat in behind though. Sordell has just started to do that towards the end of the first half and I’d like to see him play down the middle because I think he can be a huge threat. He drifts into the area and has got two good feet to get shots off.

“There has been two or three really good balls into the box but no-one really to get on the end of it, no-one gambles.

“The ball has rolled across the six-yard lie and it’s crying out for a fox in the box, if you like, someone like a Cody McDonald of old to get a few tap-ins because I think they are playing well until they get into the box and then don’t seem much of a goal scoring threat.

Yes. The two wide strikers don't attack the box from crosses from the other side, really really odd for strikers. Also one of the central midfielder should be looking get around the penalty box.

Not for the first time this season the CWR signal kept cutting out and I had to switch to the opposition`s coverage and then had no problems (why does this keep happening I wonder?).

The commentator was v. good, better than Eakin or Foster IMO, giving a good even handed description and never getting any player`s name wrong - unlike Clive!

McSheffrey was the summariser and did an excellent job making intelligent and insightful comments on the play and on individual players of each side. I found myself glad I`d had to make the switch.

As has already been alluded to, he said that physically Jones has every attribute to go far in the game, but has to learn how to channel his considerable natural ability to the needs of the team and vary his play more, which is pretty much the consensus on here I think

When asked to sum up Jones at present he described him as a speedboat without a pilot.

Not really. Mcsheffrey was an example of how a wide player in a 3 should play.

Saturday was absurd. The only midfielder likely to score or even have any effective contribution in the penalty area was Rose and he seemed relegated to playing some kind of holding role.

We play one striker and two wide strikers who rarely move from the channels. We take ages to move the ball from midfield forward and the midfield never supports the one striker.

We are an opponents dream most of the time. Some tough games coming up and we need to threaten more.
