5 days of auditing ended today, those involved seem happy enough from what they've said on twitter.
They also confirmed it was to continue as a cat 2 academy.
That did occur to me. The auditors would be aware of the situation at Higgs so surely wouldn't bother going to the trouble of auditing for cat 2 if we're not going to have the facilities in a few months.Surely this must mean there is a minimum 12 month plan for the academy going forward?
Good news, glad they are just getting on with stuff in the background. Also taking on more staff I think which is always a good sign.
Anyone know what you need for cat 1 and the cost?
They also cost around £2.5m to run, IIRC you only get around £800k FA grant, so significantly more expensive for a club to fund. For Cat 1 status we'd need better training facilities (indoor/outdoor/different sizes), more thorough sports science, education facilities, more coaches, previous track record of producing first team players (wouldn't be a problem) and we'd have to spend a certain amount on maintaining it year on year.
Fitting an FA Premier League based criteria doesn't necessarily make a great academy though. It might help with recruitment but there are Cat 2 teams (Charlton, Sheffield United, us, Nottingham Forest) that would beat category 1 academies regularly.
