That fencing has just reminded me of when we played Norwich [ Won 2-1 I think] when Speedie scored, jumped on the fencing and caught his hand on the nails [Ouch]

Wrote an article for Late Tackle football magazine on football in the winter and it's in the latest issue. I mentioned my favourite match and it was our 5-4 win on December 27 1977 verses Norwich City. It was a cracker with Blyth saving a last minute penalty. Great memories !

Hello Mr Halls , think we follow each other on twitter - was that 77 ? thought it was later ?? anyhow , I recall us beating Liverpool 1-0 with Phil Neal missing a penalty facing the West End and , Ferguson lobbing their keeper , for our goal . Sure it was Clemence in goal for them but ,may be wrong .

Yes it was 77. I used to think it was on the Boxing Day but it was a day later for some reason. A group of us met in the Acorn pub in Ringwood Highway and full of Christmas spirit went to the freezing match. It had the lot,a fantastic game. Anyone who went to that match will have it down as one of their favourites.

boxing day was a friday so it was the normal saturday fixture. 2 games in 24 hours in those days - they moan at 2 in a week now

The Norwich game was wonderful. Norwich came back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 by half time I think. We then lead 4-3 and 5-4 before Jim Blyth's last minute penalty save. Ian Wallace scored an amazing overhead kick but my favourite goal was scored by Bobby MacDonald who bent the ball into the net from virtually on the goal line (against a good keeper too in Kevin Keelan).
That whole season was just amazing. Fergie and Wallace were amazing, Hutch was amazing, Bobby Mac and Graham Oakey were amazing, Jim Blythe was amazing.
The Norwich game wasn't even the best in that season in my opinion. My favourite ever game was earlier in the season when we beat Man City 4-2. If I was ever granted 3 wishes, saddo that I am, I would like to watch the second half of that game again! We were unbelievable, unplayable, irresistible. I think we would have beaten anyone that night! Seasons like that, games like these that make being a City an worthwhile.

Slightly before my time . mind , my first full paying game was in 77 v Bristol City 1-1 think Colin Cooper made his debut for us that day but, could be wrong . talking of freezing , I recall 12,000 being at the F.A ,Cup 3rd round game v Bolton in 87 [3-0 ] yet I struggled to get a ticket - guess that was the ''True '' fans waiting in the wings

............Amazing game. Anyone recall when we beat Man u at home.......think it might of been in a cup game about 1980 ?....My old man wasn't best pleased coz i persuaded him to get the bus to HR which went round the houses so took our seat in the Sky Blue terrace to find we were 2 nil down......First time i saw Big Jim Holton in a Cov shirt....Happy Days

I loved those wintry matches with snow on the pitch,orange ball,floodlights on,piles of snow on the sides. There's an iconic picture of Neil Martin jumping in the air after scoring v Liverpool on a freezing day with sleeves rolled up with cold air coming from his mouth ! No poncey gloves those days !

Must be something about the 27 of December as my favourite ever game was 27 December 1986 when we beat Tottenham 4-3, terrific game.
