Many of us believe relegation is on the cards this season baring a miracle happening in January and the right players becoming available and actually joining us.
Below is the squad currently contracted to CCFC beyond the summer and possible team that could line up in league 2 in a more traditional 442.
Looking at the squad it's another major building job to try and be competitive in league 2, looking at it now it has flaws still in the side for league 2.
I really feel a experienced league one/two manager has to be hired now to get this right come 1st July.

*****-----Willis ------Turnbull ------*****
--Jones--******--Stevenson-----Reid---
--------*******-----********--------

Currently contracted beyond June 17
R Charles-Cook 6/18
C Addai. 6/18
J Willis. 6/18
J Turnbull. 6/19
C Harries. 6/20
D Lahey. 6/18
B Stevenson 6/20
J Shiperly. 6/18
C Maycock. 6/18
B Sayoud. 6/18
K Reid. 6/18
J Jones. 6/20
K Thomas. 6/18

Out of contract June 17
L Burge
C Stokes, R Haynes, D Kelly-Evans,
J Whitmore.
J Finch, G Bigirimana, V Ghadzev, A Rose, I Lawton, K Spence, R Lameries
G Thomas, M Sordell, M Tudgay

Out of these I'd offer "cheap deals" to....
R Haynes(as a winger), D Kelly-Evans,
I Lawton and G Thomas.
And offer M Sordell a new deal and paired with a target man (i think he's a option of a 2nd anyway)
Chris Stokes I feel will move on, love him to stay tho.
Andy Rose I'd like him to stay but I doubt it in league 2, if he did I'd make him captain too, the last few games only one to show a ounce of passion and commitment and seems a big character with a voice.

To recruit for league 2...
With that squad a minimum of....
A experienced keeper to push RCC
Left back, right back
X 2 dominant central defenders
Experienced midfielder enforcers
A right winger, left/right footed winger also.
Strikers.. experienced target man too.

I think its a fair assumption that we will be in L2 next season and our budget will be slashed again. Assuming we don't buy anybody in Jan, and there is very little evidence of this happening, looking at the what you have suggested I believe we would only have

Currently contracted beyond June 17
R Charles-Cook 6/18 - most likely be sold
C Addai. 6/18
J Willis. 6/18 - Will be sold in Jan or Summer
J Turnbull. 6/19 - released
C Harries. 6/20
D Lahey. 6/18
B Stevenson 6/20 - Win be sold Jan or Summer
C Maycock. 6/18
B Sayoud. 6/18
K Reid. 6/18 - Released
J Jones. 6/20 - possibly sold if high earner or still trying to work out what his right leg is for.
K Thomas. 6/18 - Will still be out injured after falling over a blade of grass

also anybody in the above group who is a top wage earner in the club would be released.

of those out of contract a few may be kept on but only if they accept massively reduced wages.

we had better get used to the idea that this time next year we will most likely be towards the bottom half of L2 with a far worse squad.

And here in lies the problem so if we do go down which is likely as it stands then conference football is again more likely than promotion,

Why? The budget will be cut because of a certain decreased attendance and ST holders. With that and our current plight and bad news coverage we fail to attract the right players and conference football becomes very likely within 5 seasons just how league 1 to league 2 has become.

It's just a true story. Sad story. The ONLY answer is new owners and new investment else I'm (own opinion) certain of conference football within 5 years from now.

Think a little bit early to be thinking of this now surely....though I give you it is a distinct possibility.
Would prefer to think of this season and players rolling up sleeves in new Year and doing the necessary to stay up!
I think our squad should still be good enough to stay up but things need to change for sure.

of course if we stay up the same problem apples for next year just in league one mind!!!

That's not main point for me. If we are wrong and we do stay up what's next year? Relegation fight again. Oh great.

All part of the sisu master plan. Religation to the lower tiers of l2 or worst justifying a move as tennants to a shitty tiny stadium allowing sisu to walk away when theyve squuezed every last penny out the club.

Whetes the top six budget posters now fishface has told us the future of our club.
Might sugest why tm walked when he had his budget cut this season and was made false promises.

What other club in the land does the manager have to dip in to his player budget to buy paint for a training ground that has been run down under sisu to a derelict building

Like we smashed the championhip and league 1 lol
League two will mean a budget of lower league two and a squad to match

They may as well sack off opening the 'Tesco' stand. No way will there be more than 5000 there on a Tuesday night vs Newport County.

.
Bearing in mind TF has already said player sales in Jan "wont be ruled out", its likely that at least one of those 6 wont be here in Feb, let alone next season

Your right I hope we roll our sleeves up and give it a good go but the odds are stacking ever up against us. Only got to look at our goals tally in the league one so far, I don't wanna state the obvious as we all no goals are a big issue for us.
Marvin Sordell 4 in 18
Dan Agyei 4 in 15
Andre Wright 2 in 11
Ben Stevenson 2 in 16
Marcus Tudgay 2 in 12
Andy Rose 2 in 9
Jordan Willis 1 in 22
Chris McCann 1 in 11
Kyle Reid 1 in 17
19 league one goals....
so if we're serious about staying up we need to find a 10/12+ striker most likely on loan. Sordell to break the 10+ mark too. Should Stevenson still be here I'd like to think he's got 3/5 goals in him this season. I think it's too big a ask... unless this new manager has some shit hot contacts and finds a gem... has the new manager bounce too then we've a glimmer.

We all no we're gonna sell a player to balance the books... we always will. I'd rather keep Stevenson, and maybe sell Cian Harries, he's a luxury we could profit on and is not ideally made for league one/two football. Jordan Willis is another spoke about that could hold value. But what about Andy Rose, Chris Stokes? Players who are out of contract in the summer, would a new manager opt to cash in on them to rebuild? Surely MV would have a idea if they are likely to stay or take a small cash boost to recycle into the squad. Personally I'd like to keep both if guaranteed to sign fresh terms next season.

or just play Sordell up front and give him the ball

crazy I know

He needs a partner tho..... a foil.... a target man to feed off or he will be lucky to break the 10+ mark this season by himself. He's no target man to hit and do his own work and also score himself alone.

Blimey, just about to log off and I've stumbled across a conversation about players and tactics. Might hang on a bit :)

Think to date think we have never played 4-4-2 a go this season and tried Tudguy and Sordell up top as a 2!
This still baffles me and is our best front two by a mile - not sure good enough but still unsure given where we are in the league and lack of goals why we have not given 2 up top a go!!! Especially as we gave Tudguy a new deal!! :(

If Tudgay is in our best two upfront I would suggest to Ageyi and that other bloke give up the game.
