I think you had a point mate, when people say experience and physicality that can be interpreted lots of ways and some of those interpretations are definitely not what we need.
Yeah, there's a lad I work with, whenever we sign someone he goes on their wikipedia to see how tall they are, like this is some kind of gauge of how good they are. I am 6ft 5"... trust me, height doesn't make you a good footballer!

If people are talking the likes of Vincelot I stand corrected, we could most certainly do with him in this current squad.

League one and two, footballing warriors.
No good in the championship upwards but bloody useful league one players.... not championship veterans

Yep. We have had a few managers who have said we have lacked physicality.

Were they all wrong?
and if they were right why the devil has this aspect not been addressed?

I'm not here to question both your footballing knowledge but do you not think all teams need experienced players to drag teams over the line, no the little dark secrets of bullying other teams influential players to nullify there treat?

How many times have we seen this done before our very eyes?

Do you not think it's strange that all our last few managers have said the team lacks leaders, men to do the job?

Sometimes teams can benefit from having a less skilled, lump in the middle that will drive the team forward singlehanded especially at league one and two level. It's effective and works, most weeks against us!!

course you can

but as the other guy pointed out henderson was experienced and a big lump. fans clamoured for him and once they got him they said he was crap

Henderson proved to be a bad signing at the very arse end of his career and was not used to the style of play he needed to be of any effect, as we've said further along he's not quite the type of "lump of a target man" we desire. We mean more a 31 year old tops player who's not been sat in his arse watching soccer Saturday since last January ideally.

When people are saying we need experience And physicality, we mean players in their prime who have been around abit (26-29 years old) and know thr demands of league one - ie in the Vincelot mould. We don't mean the 34+ club that mowbray got obsessed about last season. Of course they have to be good enough, but we have too many 'technical' players and not enough 'gritty' players. Thr blend of thr team and squad is completely wrong.

Slade is right, we don't do the basics well enough and we don't have enough game management know how in the squad.

It worries me that most of these players have been playing football most days since they were young kids and don't yet know the basics.

Because he used to be a good player and was someone many of us rated. When he came though he was clearly past it and his legs had gone.

We weren't to know that until we got him.

Currently we've got 19 pts at the half way point of the season...
23 games to go, 51 pts should see us safe based on the last 10 years relegated sides points tally.
<snip>
So we need....
8 wins 7 draws 8 losses
7 wins 10 draws 5 losses
<snip>
I see the above as being the only two likely scenarios, though it's very difficult to imagine us only suffering 5 defeats in half a season.
Every game we lose, increases the percentage of wins or draws we need from the remaining games.
And with our current dismal record, it looks very bleak.
We won't be the only club strengthening in January, they all will be.
There is not much room for error now .....

You have point Otis, but you would have expected experienced manager Tony Mowbray and his equally experienced side kick Mark Venus to have known.

Yes, exactly.

As fans we had only seen the previous incarnations of such players. I was really happy with Hunt and Henderson, thought their age did bother me, but our management surely had a look at them and must have seen out on the training ground, or speaking to those in the game that they had lost it.

It was so evident.

i dont think hunt was as bad as some of our fans made out.
He wasn't, but I was expecting him to make a real difference and stand out and get didn't.

Henderson was just dreadful, but had been a player I had always admired elsewhere.

I don't see us getting anywhere near 51pts with the squad we've got. Could be an embarrassing "Early" finish to our season.

Looking at RS previous fire fighting relegation jobs he's done he's took over 50% of the points available and done the job

Scarborough 2001/02.
Conference 39pts from 57 in 19 games

Brighton 2008/09.
W6 D2 L6 (L1) 20pts from 38 in 14 games

Leyton Orient 2009/10
W3 D1 L2 (L1) 10pts from 18 in 6 games

This is his 4 relegation job and with 69 points left to accumulate 31 his stats suggest it's possible.
