What do you do for protein if you eat no meat?
There is protein in eggs, milk, cheese and in seafood, also in some vegetables like beans, peas and mushrooms, and of course in nuts, grains and seeds.
I do eat a little meat, mostly chicken but little to no red meat.

Bit late for me to start trying to lose weight. I lost about 5 kilos when I was in hospital recently, but that was due to loss of appetite. I get short of breath just talking these days (honestly), and I've got to go back to local hospital cardio dept. for rehab for my ticker. Really not looking forward to that. I was told a fair bit of exercise would be involved! :(

I joined the Hilton last month, started to get a basic level up and now I'm hitting it hard. Also started on myfitnesspal again this week and enjoying the healthy meals at lunch time.

Well you have all shamed me into deciding i better try and lose a stone or two. Wife has nagged me for couple years about the need to eat healthier etc and exercise more...so I suppose now is the time. I feel fairly fit for a 55yr old with a new hip (best thing I ever had...but two years of being inactive took its toll), I walk regularly and help train an u14 football team. But I am partial to chips, chocolate and Chinese etc. Better make that change.

But what change, what are you going to do. I think it's important to have an idea what you plan on doing it as without a clear plan it's easy to give up.

Right so today I did
A 2 minute plank
20 squats
30 sit up
5 burpees ( small steps will add more)
Just about to go for my first run of the year and signed up for the Coventry half marathon
I'm going to do it for the "it takes balls to talk" campaign hopefully.
Did a 4mile too

I have started tai chi , will plan walks rather than just go out for an hour or two. Also change my eating habits; smaller portions, less sugar (don't have it in tea but love cakes and chocolate), less takeaways/meals out. Hopefully steady progress in losing a stone or more

Done 4lb so far, still really hurting in the gym and bad to see how different it is since I stopped going before :(

Still, fitbit is a great invention for motivation. Link it up with myfitness pal and it gives a big green if you stay well under calories and a big green if you hammer the exercise.

Also reminds you to drink water, get up and walk about etc. The difference between that on a cross trainers screen with heart rate is massive, cross trainer tried to steal about 200 calories.bell end

Just will take a while!

'Myfitnesspal' is excellent, it's great how it encourages safe weight loss too, if you don't eat enough calories it won't give you the figures for that day. Bought one of those giant space hopper ball things today, need to try and get some movement into my back again. Main goal for the first 6 months is to lose 1.5 stone and just build my core.

Up to 6lb now since last week, just stopped eating crap and eaten healthy and been at the gym every day.

Fitbit and myfitnesspal is really helping, find myself needlessly walking about to meet goals.

Barely had a gut to start with, and being so tall I hide any excess weight pretty well - 14 stone 3lbs at the minute, which isn't bad for someone who's 6'3'' and stocky anyway.

Always hated the gym, to be honest, much rather walking, jogging or chasing magpies out of my garden.

I ate like a ravenous Polar Bear over the Xmas period and only put on the aforementioned 3lbs, which is amazing. Polished off 2 of the kids selection boxes and everything.

Blimey.....some of you lot have got the new year/new start bug ain't ya?

I've always been a bit of a racing snake but got knocked off my bike in October which put pay to my cycling & exercise regime...

...then xmas happened.....

.....this has left me decidedly soft in the middle (and the rest of my life is so hard)....

I'm 45 and for the first time, feel like i've got a bit of middle-aged flab around my midrift.....it almost feels like its dropped off my shoulders, arms & chest & landed around my waist.

So i'm all healed up, currently building a new road bike (already riding again on my commuter & fixed) but want some exercise tips on how to specifically target & shift this wobbly belly belt I've developed...

It'll soon drop off when you start getting some miles on the bike.

Good effort team.

I go to the gym about four times a week with some additional running and football on other days, whilst trying to give myself a day or two off. Problem is I eat and drink like a champ, so don't make a rapid amount of progress.

Anyway, doing dry January and also started a strict diet this week. Getting married in July so hopefully will be in prime condition for then.

P.S. January is a terrible time to give up booze, it's depressing and seemingly a lot of parties going on!

Shifting the gut is the problem I had. You've got to remember diet is the most important thing. You can ride miles and miles, but if you eat crap, the belly will remain.
I do a small amount of cardio pre workout 5 times a week, and then I have set workouts for every day. I cut out crisps, chocolate, takeaways and went down to having a few beers one night a week.
Started doing this 5 months ago, and even with falling off the wagon a little at Xmas I've dropped down from a 38in waist to a 32in waist.
The scales don't look much different. I started at 13st 11, I'm now 13st 4. I'm just more toned and have replaced the fat with muscle.

Lost 1 and a 1/2 stone in about 10 weeks leading up to 9th Dec.

Back on it from Tuesday just gone, working on shredding fat, then will build muscle back up :)

Have got 6k on a cross trainer down from the start of the week at 22 / 23 minutes to 18 minutes with it being quite as painful. Going to get it to 15 minutes and then take it up to 7k a day. :)

I need to get back on this.

Just quit weed after 20 years of smoking pretty much daily. It's ridiculously easy, 2 or 3 days of insomnia and being a moody c**t then nothing. Now about half fags and half vaping, I'll try and cut the fags out over the next few weeks.

I lost 4 stone in 4 months a couple of years ago through the 4 Hour Body diet. The rapid loss really helped me, but I put it all back on again. I'm a depressive and eating is my comfort (adopts Scottish accent "I eat because I'm unhappy, and I'm unhappy because I eat"). I've slowly lost about a stone in 3 months simply because my wife is on Slimming World and I've been eating the same dinner, thinking I might just keep at this, maybe try and drop the sugar from my coffee to speed it up a bit, but slow and steady seems to win the race.

In terms of physical activity I do fuck all. I like running, but only early in the morning when no one is around to see me, and morning are not my thing. I'd love to build some more muscle, but I can't stand gyms so have been looking at Convict Conditioning for body weight exercises, I like the idea of being able to do handstand pushups one day! lol

Not sure what the point of this post is, just wanted to get it out there.

Started the swimming sessions now. Never thought I would say this, but really enjoying it. My 10 year old lad joins in too which helps.

I'd love to start swimming, I nearly drowned as a kid and ended up never learning. I went to adult lessons once but it was all people with special needs and me, I felt like a right twat.

Anyone know any decent adult swimming classes?

There should be something local to you. My wife and mother in law used to go and they target non swimmers and those with limited ability (this is in Northampton where we live). The council website should have info.

I've got a great recipe for a green lentil chili if anyone wants it? Eat it with brown rice to get complete amino acids. No, I'm not Iain Dowie.

Yes please mate - just had a chat with the family about cooking more interesting, healthy food.

Lentils in chilli is awesome. I started bulking out anything with mince with lentils and you can't tell at all.

What annoys me is that I can kill myself on a Cross Trainer for 20 minutes and it's less calories burnt than a brisk 25 - 30 minute walk!

I was supposed to get out on my bike yesterday but ran out of time. Ended up having to referee a game as the ref didn't turn up at the match in the afternoon. Full 90 minutes was bloody tiring too.
