I didn't even really know about it until this thread.
no coincidence that the Guardian has been on this story for a while much like they were with ours.
Probably the only newspaper that realizes there is football outside the Premier League.

In my experience the Football Family stuff is a myth. No one will care for them like no one cared about us.
Their fans don't deserve any care from anyone anyway! The stone Island brigade still think they're living in the 80s!

Don't know whether you've seen it today but Millwall possibly being forced out of Lewisham by local council. If a case like this happened (which half has already to be fair) then I think that would still count as our team.
it's disgraceful what's happening down there.

Its shocking. Private Eye have highlighted several times how shoddy the whole situation is and how they are being screwed.
Unlike Sheff Utd fans who don't feel sympathy and empathy, Millwall fans have my sympathy on this issue

My tipping pint was Swindon at home in Jan 2015 a wet miserable night, live game on TV, no more than 6,000 Cov fans there despite the official crowd, outplayed hardly managed a shot lost 3-0. Losing or being outplayed in the rain is nothing new to a Cov fan but the whole matchday experience at the Ricoh is so depressing small crowds in a big stadium the walk up feels like its a friendly game, unfortunately it will only get worse as our crowds continue to fall, going out of compulsion rather than with excitement and expectation.

Because the situation is different. Lewisham Council are looking to regenerate the area and the land that the Den sits on fits in with their strategic planning. The clubs and its owners are blameless.

I've had debates too many times on here where people have said it will only be down to the club owners as they own them and no outside parties can influence or damage the club because they don't own it.

My point is: Millwall FC are blameless - the Council is evicting them. CCFC owners are not blameless as they voluntarily moved the Club as a tactic to gain control of the stadium. The two situations are entirely different.

Are you saying that the two clubs as entities (CCFC and MFC - not the owners) have been fucked over by bad owners and Local Authorities respectively? If so, then yes - but the circumstances are different.

CCFC owners are obviously not blameless, though neither are CCC.

What makes the Millwall situation unpleasant is the fact the development company involves several current and former council employees.

Yes, circumstances are different.

My point is that people other than club's owners can damage clubs.

I think that's what ultimately applies. Do I go as much as I used to? No. Does that mean another team could take CCFC's place? No.

Despite my misgivings, and resignation to 'the end' of the club... unless and until they go, they're still my team and I can't just decide to start supporting Brentford, say.

Agree NW - I won't support anyone else if we ever disappear. I don't go much now anymore as it is, but still keep an eye on games when we play , so wouldn't bother going to football at all if it ever happens. So no tipping point for me.

As the support reduces, we are left with more and more hardcore fans, so I expect the reduction in support to slow down a little, but it will definitely accellerate if we get relegated.

I expressly don't want to get into tinfoil hat territory on either side in this thread. Just curious about the philosophical question of ... "belonging" I guess.

And we'll find that all of those doinks who switched to supporting Leicester last season, will soon be switching back to Chelsea, Arsenal or Man Utd.

Also, since I can't actively attend matches anymore, my support is limited to match threads here to be honest...I'd still attend if it were feasible. Like I mentioned the other day, if the club ceased to exist, so would my support for a football team. I couldn't bare seeing them descend further than L2, realistically, however CCFC will always remain in my blood for as long as it exists - no matter what league we're in.

The is one element to consider in regard to councils behaviour across England and that is the current financial environment which they are working to. They'll be member of this forum who'll have lost jobs with local authorities in recent years and the decrease in available funds is driving decisions to realise revenues, in the short term. The councils are focussing on statutory functions, e.g. Social care, etc. Therefore, just like central government realising the value of certain national assets, so are local authorities to try and plug funding gaps.
