That was the most effective front four if you accumulate all the games. When all those played together we barely played badly. I don't know why, I guess they all worked hard and had the intelligence to feed Armstrong.

I don't really care what anyone says about Kent and Murphy, when they played well they were out of this world, but ultimately they were luxury players that didn't produce often enough. There was no consistency. It was ok if one of them was on the pitch and the rest of the team was playing well, but when they weren't we were effectively down to 10 men more often than not.

Player selection and man management cost us post Christmas.

Lameiras? Wow.

Accumulate all what games together? Yeah, he's definitely not a luxury player...
At least Murphy and Kent wete capable of producing the goods and did.

Lameiras is very poor. No end product and a complete lightweight at this level.

Bringing Cole in disrupted the whole balance of a winning team, the players who were doing well were to much in awe of him. One bad apple and all that.

Exactly, the whole attacking impetus was shifted to accommodate Cole, and it was a dramatic shift. After Bradford away last season, the whole structure of the team just derailed, slowly at first and then blatantly. And also, as it's been stated, the reliance on young players (Arma and Murphy) took it's tole; Murphy was jaded and only showed glimpses of his skill after Xmas 2015.

To be honest, looking at the situation logically, Mowbray probably wanted to strengthen the team adequately in January, however the money simply wasn't available for wages etc. Hence the influx of deadwood: Hunt, Ramage, Henderson et al. TM is the sort of manager that can do the business with the players he needs, but that wasn't forthcoming. Plus, naturally, his defiant neglect of a 'Plan B' was critical, and this in turn affected the jaded player's morale. Then the lack of depth and quality really started to show.

It was nice while it lasted, though...part of me knew it wouldn't last, that the SISU Effect would take hold and drag us down. And he we are, staring the 4th tier of English Football for the first time in what, 55 years? My step-dad, who in his 60 years on this Earth has spent over half of his life as a season ticket holder, refuses to speak about City now. He literally can't face it.

For those who have lived and breathed Coventry City for most of their lives, well...if SISU gave a shit, that'd be something. A shred of remorse would do. And collectively, we're left numb or deeply sorrowful at what's happened to our club in less than 16 years. Forgiveness for SISU can only be attained if they piss off, permanently. Even that's not looking likely.

Cole didn't work and the rotation to accommodate him didn't suit us. You need a settle team at this level. Murphy needed resting and was overplayed.

The strategy in the summer backfired big time. But I think it is harder to get decent players here now than fans realise.

Slades style of football isn't the answer, for me. I fear his run in might be actually worse than Mowbray's. Time will tell.

Burton were solid defensively and didn't score a lot but they didn't just aimlessly hoof it.
It might just get us out of relegation if we have two big signings still to come.
However If we play it for all of next season. We will have our usual collapse after Xmas once we are worked out

I agree about JC being disruptive to our style of play. What looked to be a great signing turned out to be a disaster. Why TM continued to play him I'll never understand.

I'm thankful for mowbrays first half of last season. That might be the last time I ever watch the sky blues produce sustained attacking, exciting and skilful football. Whatever people think of the individual contributions of players like lameiries, Murphy and Kent I think we can all agree that it was the best football we had seen at the Ricoh.
Ultimately the wheels came off and Cole disappointed, reda then turner were injured and hunt, rampage and Henderson not up to it. But for those few months I really enjoyed the football my team served up

They are strong powerful and direct but they are more direct in terms of diagonal ball. Not aimlessly hoofing it. They also have the right players for that style. Which is different to what we are playing.

Yes physicality is important, especially if you are going to play the physical long ball game. We have Clarke and Rowson for physicality that's it.
So we need a midfielder who has it and a striker or two.

You can have physicality in this division and not play long ball.
You can have a tough midfielder beside a creative one.
Tough defenders and a goalie with presence.
Then flair fast pacy skillful attacking players who you can pass the ball to.
Unfortunately we also don't have much of the above either

Of course I went to the games, I wouldn't be commenting otherwise.

Kent didn't score many, but his pace and threat drew attention giving others more space and time.

I've already said how Murphy's form dropped off and the probable reasons for it. Lameiras has never had any form to lose.

Lamieras passing with Armstrong was really good.

Was it Millwall he did that look away reverse pass to split the defence?

Funny thing is about fans like yourself , is you actually avoid looking at reason and jump straight to conclusion .

Are you genuinely suggesting that with the 7 injuries to key players at the back over the course of the season is not partly why we fell away ??
Are you suggesting that when Steve waggot approached the ownership i requesting a small amount of funds to push for promotion in January to be told no , is not part of the reason we took a gamble on guff like hunt and Henderson .
The first 10 games this season under Mowbray were for the most part more frustrating because we couldn't score , we looked organised and still played good football , playing teams like Bradford off the park until Jordan turnbull decided to get sent off , missing absolute sitters against sides like Oldham at home all the while maintaining a top 6 defensive record until he left .

And in my honest opinion , Tony mowbrays Coventry city side always tried to play football the right way , I enjoyed his football more than any other managers style over the last 15 -20 years , give or take brief periods under certain managers .
Wether you like it or not Grendel , the stats say Tony Mowbray was the most successful long term manager (over a season) under the terrible guidance of our owners .
And wether you like it or not , it's extremely hard to solely blame Tony Mowbray for the way we fell away last season , because I firmly believe if players like turner , cargill , stokes , and Johnson never suffered long term injuries during the course of our season , we would have made the playoffs comfortably .

But forget reason eh
