Now quite rightly Slade has been getting a lot of stick on here. I thought at the time it was the best we could do but it has been a disaster. But we should not let that mask the fact that the players themselves should be taking the flack too as they also have been a disgrace. We also have to stop making excuses for the likes of Willis, Burge,Haynes,Rcc,Thomas,Bigi just because they have been bigged up because they are from the academy. Lets face it these "players" have been in the first team now for 2-3 years but some see them as "kids" still.
Obviously others are not exempt from it either bar Dke,Reilly and maybe Beavon.
Time to tell it how it is with these misfits who have been an embarrassment to the shirt and quite frankly not fit to wear it.

Very well put! They quite simply ain't good enough, yes some of them are "our own" and a few will come good. Plenty show promise in the u23's but that's completely different to league one or two.
The mental strength is lacking in most, heart and desire not there in others.
Where we have invested them players are not producing what we'd hoped...
a experienced player like Rose, shirking challenges most weeks.
From front to back they are not good enough, clear the decks and offer a select few "squad" based contracts for next year but we need up to 15 more "1st team players" next season.
The bulk part of this seasons squad need releasing or selling on

I do agree with some of this. As Karl Robinson points out in his post match the other night, you can spend all week in training talking about the opposition and how the big fella up front is good in the air, how the winger is all left foot, how their no10 likes to win fouls on the edge of the box, how to defend set plays yet on a match day they do the opposite. That's not Slades fault (assuming he is doing that)

I too thought he was a good choice for this league and as pointed out, he has won manager of the year twice in this division so he's not clueless really.

Recruitment has been the let down.

I see your point it's a shield to hide behind the title of not good enough. The reality is there application, desire and mental strength is not good enough weekly.
It's been a failure on many parts.
Take players like Turnbull coming from big academy's via stints at clubs on loan, them players ain't for me now going forwards next season. They've types of players have made there money so have no fight, hearts not in it!
Get me a players who's grafted at Macclesfield in the winter, skinned his man on the wing at Grimsby and gone toe to toe at Accrington in the mud. Players who are proud to play for the name of Coventry City and get loyal support.
I don't care about the name on the back of the shirt or if he started at Aylesbury, Brackley or Wrexham...
I just want a team of players who will be proud to pull the shirt on, graft and fight for the 96 mins and pick up a fair wage at the end playing the game they love to support there families and pay the mortgage in a home next door to the postman.

DKE, George Thomas and Stuart Beavon are the only names you can say look like it hurts.
Kwame Thomas you could put a case of trying forwards with Callum Reilly.

How Lameiras and Jones can't get in this team is ridiculous. If you are gonna lose every week trying to play defensively, then you might as well lose every week having a go.

Well, it isn't their fault? You can train your arse off at something and still not be elite. If you are selected you can only do as much as your ability level suggests. So often we lose a game and the players are 'spineless' or 'weak'. In reality, in most instances they have been outplayed or out thought. I have people in my team who can try their hardest and they wont be as good as others who dont need to put much effort in. In reality we have lower league one players, most of which are forging a career for themselves and unlike many on here seem to suggest, they aren't on mega money that sorts them for life, they are looking to establish themselves as professionals.

They don't need to be elite, this is league 1.

How many players has he recruited. Not sure but I think they all but one played Tuesday and it was shocking. But the player's are just not good enough.

I don't think whether the players are here on loan / short contract has that much of an impact. It's about the player themselves. Our best player of late is Callum Reilly, he works tirelessly.

To me our season has been based to heavily on young loanees again to supplement our own kids.
You need a base of your own players who've played a few seasons and build that team spirt and galvanise something that new players buy into.

Agreed, the players individually are probably good enough as has been said before. Most of the poor play that I've noticed comes down to poor decision-making - wrong passes, not thinking about where they are heading/clearing the ball, indecision on crosses from the keepers, diving into tackles, passing instead of shooting/shooting instead of passing....you get my drift.

That seems to happen more than technical errors which are easier to spot (miscontrolling the ball, miskicks, fucked up clearances from CBs/GKs etc)

I bet they speak highly of you too! In the second half at Bury, the team was totally committed, worked really hard, and were very unlucky not to get at least a point. At the end of the game, the fans applauded the team for their efforts, the players came right up to the fans, and if you could have seen the disappointment on their faces, you might have a different view as to whether they care or not. They certainly cared that night, and I believe they care all the time. It's not their fault that owners and previous management have left them ill equipped for this physical League. On these forums, somebody posts something negative and there's a stampede of people jumping on the bandwagon.

We will go further down and end up like Stockport I remember going to the first game in the Championship against them and (had to sit in the home end )and all there fans were saying cov will win this league easy fuck me how wrong were they.

Indeed, it's a collection of technical errors, ones which can be forgiven if they're sporadic and innocuous, however this team makes grave errors in crucial areas.

For me, the players don't lack confidence or abilty, they lack heavily in leadership and basically don't give a shit.

I don't really buy the "they don't care line" to be honest. They do care but are not fans and don't care as much!as us. When we get relegated will they care-of course. That will soon be forgotten though when they are out of the door at the end of June. It's only a job now to the majority of them. Mind you on this showing they would be lucky to get another "job".

Well it looks like the bonus structure has been changed and contributed part of, was it £800K reduction of overheads in the accounts.
BTW didn't we hear rumours about this happening on here around the time the form tailed off before Christmas?

This is where good recruitment of a proper captain would pay dividends but for some reason our so called managers and ex managers never seem capable of spotting one of these types of players... I just cannot fathom out wtf the scouts and the likes spend their time doing when they go out 'talent spotting' or indeed what the briefs are to look out for... do our managers say "ok I am looking for someone who has no heart, is lazy can't pass for toffee" because these are what we keep getting on a consistent basis... surely time and time again we cant be 100% wrong all the time... great read I had once was someone who Peter Taylor trained up, cant remember the guys name but a former post office owner, Peter Taylor would take him along to watch games and educate him into what to look for... why o why cant we find someone like that

I still play football twice a week at the Higgs and every game I want to win.
Still put my body on the line to block a shot and gutted if we loose.
Surely it's built into us blokes to win regardless of whether it's PL or a pub side ?

Yep it's inbuilt - you either have that desire or you don't. I'm sure we've all played in teams (across different sports) where you have teammates who obviously aren't as committed to the cause as you - some just don't have it in them to roll up their sleeves and give absolutely everything every game. Everyone should, of course, but it's so rarely the reality.
