Hi all
I'm a student Journalist at Cov Uni writing an article about the (many) negative effects SISU have had on Coventry City since they brought the club back in 2007.

I was wondering whether a couple of you on the forum would be able to answer some of these questions so I put some fan opinion into my piece?

1. When did you start worrying about the state the club was in?
2. How worried are you about the clubs future?
3. Do you think the club is going to continue to slip further down the League ladder?
4.Do you feel the fanbase has become more divided this season?
5.How successful do you think the protests this season have been?
6. Do you see SISU selling up anytime soon?
7. Should the club completely fold would you support a Phoenix club if one arose?

Any help would be greatly appreciated-

cheers,
James

James, I suggest you study the numerous pro SISU bias articles attributed to Les Reid & then you'll know exactly what bad journalism is all about.

Will always help a fellow Cov Uni student.

I will say as a journalist you should probably try to be a bit more balanced. You've left no room for the dissenting voices that would make any article have more weight and interest.

1. When did you start worrying about the state the club was in?

After Ranson quit probably. We seemed to no longer be trying to build a club and instead we're doing damage limitation. Since then it's gone from bad to worse with relegation, then the stadium fiasco, then seemingly another relegation. These days the club seems to make the right noises but doesn't follow through with actions.

2. How worried are you about the clubs future?

Very. I can't see how we get ourselves back on an even keel. Worried about the future of the academy. Worried about where we will play after next season. Worried about what the reason for Sisu owning us is. Just can't fathom any of it and I've seen businesses go bust trying to blindly follow a break even strategy rigidly with no concern for the actual business health.

3. Do you think the club is going to continue to slip further down the League ladder?

God knows. Right now we've got a new manager and the usual optimism has creeped in, maybe we'll storm L2, maybe Robins is the guy. But experience tells me that's probably not going to happen. We could move out of the City again, we could lose a promising manager due to lack of support. We could sell our top scorer in January. Goes back to the rhetoric from the club not matching their actions. It seems we've bottomed out, but we've been told that before. Maybe it's true this time, but I'd expect it to be more by luck than design that we have any success next year. If we go down and do poorly, I'd expect the downward spiral to continue.

4.Do you feel the fanbase has become more divided this season?

Maybe it's the Internet but the fan base always seems to be divided. Northampton was a big fault line, you either went or you didn't. Each protest is another, do you support it or not? Any argument/legal action with Wasps or the Council is another, who do you believe? In some ways we seem to be more united as fewer people defend Sisu these days, but still argue over the best way forward.

5.How successful do you think the protests this season have been?

To judge that you'd need to know what the hoped outcome was. I don't. In many ways they have further divided the fan base. I'm not sure there is anything fans can do to sway Sisu's hand, but I get the feeling of wanting to do something to show your frustration so won't condem them.

6. Do you see SISU selling up anytime soon?

God knows. It seems not, apparently they've turned down approaches, though there's been rumours of talks behind the scenes, but we've had that smoke before with no fire. I honestly can't see why they're still here so it's hard to see why they'd leave. Maybe after the new judicial review is decided, but we thought that after the last one. I sure hope they'll go after relegation but the noises from the club don't indicate that. Maybe we will come up on a wave of optimism next year and someone will take a punt. But if there was a white knight out there or a fan consortium to put together you'd have thought they'd have appeared by now. We seem to just attract an endless line of chancers and nobodies, not any serious interest.

7. Should the club completely fold would you support a Phoenix club if one arose?

Depends on the circumstances. If Sisu were to liquidate us out of spite, probably. In theory yes I would, but in reality it'd come down to how I felt about it and what the FA did with us. A "new" club starting a few leagues down is one thing, a complete startup is another. Another factor would be the people behind any new club, I'd want it to feel some connection to the current fan base and club and not like Coventry United.

<snip>

As a student, you need to learn how to conduct surveys.
You will never get a meaningful result when you ask leading questions like this.
How about asking us if we are worrying before you ask us when did we start?
So no I will not answer your questions.

Why the massive reluctance to help someone out? Few proper dickhead responses on here from some of you. This guy might be deep in a 10000 dissertation and just trying to get a feel for thoughts of fans.

1. When did you start worrying about the state the club was in?
- as a younger fan, I do not really have much recollection of off field event before Andy Thorn became manager and we fell out of the Championship.

2. How worried are you about the clubs future?
- I do not think we will fold, but I can't see anything getting better in the near future. I can see us slipping out the the Football League and from that point it is a hard slog back.

3. Do you think the club is going to continue to slip further down the League ladder?
- See previous. I believe we will sink into the national league, relocate and then become a larger team playing in the top half of the conference.

4.Do you feel the fanbase has become more divided this season?
- I think this forum is divided whereas the vast majority of fans have decided to say 'fuck it' and cause as much trouble as possible. No attention from the FA so its our only option.

5.How successful do you think the protests this season have been?
- Protests have not affect our owners they don't care. However, stopping games with affect the FA and causing a scene on national TV will help for Sky and other media outlets to cover it. What we need is the FA to realise how poor our owners are.

6. Do you see SISU selling up anytime soon?
- I do not understand how their brains work but as a hedge fund all they care about is there investors money. If we are always losing money it makes no sense for them to have us. They may as well cut losses and sell up now.

7. Should the club completely fold would you support a Phoenix club if one arose?
- Having lived out of Coventry for my entire life it would be easier to support my close friends clubs, either Forest or Wednesday. Saying that, I couldnt stand having to go to the City Ground weekly. It is disappointing because I have got graduate employment in Coventry starting September so I hope they don't fold. First year since I was 13 I will have a season ticket. First time I don't have to travel to home games.

1. When did you start worrying about the state the club was in?

(When we were facing relegation from the Championship yet still sold the Juke in January and replaced him with two untested kids on loan.
Then I knew relegation to division 3 was inevitable.
Another moment was when it started to become apparent that we were never really going to settle on any rent deal offered. )

2. How worried are you about the clubs future?

(Very as our owners say it isn't for sale. However they only seem to have a plan that involves breaking even. Yet they don't understand that you can breakeven by raising revenue. As they cut as you can imagine our revenue then also drops. The sales of Wilson and Maddison have saved us. However it is not a sustainable business model to hope you can unearth a gem each season to sell in order to breakeven)

3. Do you think the club is going to continue to slip further down the League ladder?

(Yes division 4 next season)

4.Do you feel the fanbase has become more divided this season?

(Not massively I would gues 80% of the fans mainly blame SISU for what has occurred. There are disagreements over how best to respond to it. Whilst a small minority say they blame SISU but only want to talk about other parties such as Wasps, Council, Charity, CET ect.)

5.How successful do you think the protests this season have been?

(The national media do seem to now be interested I believe the protests have stirred this interest)

6. Do you see SISU selling up anytime soon?

(Really not sure)

7. Should the club completely fold would you support a Phoenix club if one arose?

( if it became my local football team and it was ran well with decisions only based on what's best for the club. I probably would)

Any help would be greatly appreciated-

(No worries good luck )

cheers,
James

Can't believe some of the negative, shitty responses on here! Jeez! The OP only wants to get feedback to a bit of work he's doing at Uni! Great impression you all gave him of City fans! On behalf of the many decent posters, apologies to you darcy996.

My God, the things they do at pretend universities. It was better in the old days when only the top 3% got to go to university.

James, I suggest you ignore people who witter on about bias just because the facts presented don't fit their own personal one.

Your opening statement and some of these questions are a tad leading in fairness, and opinion stated here may not genuinely represent that of all CCFC fans.

You're not going to find many people who like SISU, in fact I'd be amazed if you can find any - but be aware that there are a number of fans who see more to the club's demise than just the current owners. Good luck, and prepare to expand your vocabulary!

Corrected for you so you didn't miss out half the facts.

Could you be more condescending? He's not conducting a survey, he's writing an article about the (many) negative effects SISU have had on Coventry City. So of course his questions are leading because he wants opinion on that. And if a journalist asks me IF I'm worrying as his opening gambit, he's going to have pissed me off from the start - what kind of fan is watching this club unravel and is not automatically worried about it?!
