WASPS getting the Ricoh, moved my fears to a total different level

Extremely its a dispute that's got political and personal and no signs of resolution.

Yes but hoping Robbins appointment was conditional on a certain level of financial support

Not really only new level of division has been regarding how anti-sisu protests should be conducted

Not bad, Sheffield utd was effective

Yes not sure if that is being over optimistic

7. Should the club completely fold would you support a Phoenix club if one arose
Yes but would have to wear sky blue and not called rovers or utd

1. When Wasps moved into the Ricoh. When we moved back from Northampton I thought it would be a clean slate and we can move forward. Then learning shortly after that we were tenants to a London rugby club that have a 250 year freehold has basically ruled any chance of owning the stadium. It was built and commissioned in 2005 for us.
2. There's always an uncertain. What's going to happen when our Ricoh tenancy finishes in 2018? What is going to happen to our academy? Next season will be interesting in League 2.
3. I don't think we will slip into non league but if we are not careful we could slip into a rut in League 2, similar to what we have been doing now. We should be a Championship club at minimum.
4. Compared to last season, certainly more divided. We should have finished in the play offs last season and it was Tony Mowbrays fault that we didn't. The 'SISU out' and 'NOPM' comments waned due to the season we had. Now we are all but relegated and had a poor season they have started again. I expect a large protest at Wembley in a few weeks.
5. Define successful. Whilst we gained publicity we are still no further forward driving SISU out of the club.
6. I don't unfortunately. What new owner wants to buy a club without a stadium, no academy and a poor fan base? There are plenty of other clubs more attractive.
7. No. If CCFC dies I will have no ties to a new club. I will follow the results, hope they do well but they are not CCFC. I am not in favour of Coventry United who used our predicament for publicity and success.

We have been one of the worst performing clubs in Football League over the last thirty years. It's amazing we still have the fans we do. People do us down, but no one has any idea of what our crowds would look like after a successful season.

Couldn't agree more. Given everything we've endured and where we are now it's amazing that we've got any fans. I've got nothing but respect for those that have stuck it out, without them we'd have been finished a long time ago.

I'm a student Journalist at Cov Uni writing an article about the (many) negative effects SISU have had on Coventry City since they brought the club back in 2007.

I was wondering whether a couple of you on the forum would be able to answer some of these questions so I put some fan opinion into my piece?


1. When did you start worrying about the state the club was in? pretty much the season we get relegated from the championship, I wasn't happy with the previous seasons but this one hit home more.
2. How worried are you about the clubs future? totally relaxed about it.... of course not!
3. Do you think the club is going to continue to slip further down the League ladder? we are down to L2 so its not great, I think MR has given us a boost though
4.Do you feel the fanbase has become more divided this season? yep totally
5.How successful do you think the protests this season have been? the ones inside the ground have had the desired effect and raised a lot of attention. As we are a continual talking piece on Talksport etc that cannot be bad
6. Do you see SISU selling up anytime soon? nope
7. Should the club completely fold would you support a Phoenix club if one arose? no I don't think I could but it would depend on how and who took that forward. If fanbased then maybe.

I was speaking to a guy at Warwick University yesterday.

He said off the record that they offered Cov Uni out for a fight on Hearsall Common but cov uni flapped it.

(I just made it up trying to relive school memories where there was always that massive fight with other schools but nobody ever turned up so no idea if a fight actually happened)

I was worried the moment Coventry City Council took over the finishing of the new stadium build, but more recently when the first transfer embargo was initiated (sorry can't remember the exact date)
2. How worried are you about the clubs future?
I think we will still have a club in some form, I don't think we will fold but it worries me that we will languish in the bottom tier for a long time. I don't expect to see the club in the top flight again in my lifetime which is sad.
3. Do you think the club is going to continue to slip further down the League ladder?
We'll be relegated this season but think we will be a consistent 4th tier club.
4.Do you feel the fanbase has become more divided this season?
I think the fanbase became very divided a couple of years ago but not noticably more this season, through awful decisions within the club and the city but especially on this forum. I think this place has a lot to answer for.
5.How successful do you think the protests this season have been?
They have been successful in terms of keeping the clubs plight in the public eye
6. Do you see SISU selling up anytime soon?
No, if they would gone years ago if they wanted out.
7. Should the club completely fold would you support a Phoenix club if one arose?
I'd support them if they were backed and managed by the right people who have the best interests in the club and the city.

Used to go to the Nottingham Trent V Nottingham Uni varsity game when I was doing my Batchelors, I imagine it's a similar situation. We got spanked, but had fun singing "You can shove your daddy's wallet up your arse!"

I read once on another site that the reason it is called Warwick University is that Coventry council thought of universities as elitest and didn't want to put Coventry's name to it.
They shouldn't be bitter about one another and should look to complement each other.

I don't think it's real bitterness, more friendly competition.

Regarding the name, I'd heard something different. Basically it was originally Coventry & Warwickshire University but the uni felt the Coventry name dragged them down and distanced themselves from the city. With all due respect, your theory is insane, no local authority would distance themselves from a uni, they are an unqualified good for the area. Sooner or later, a British university is going to go bankrupt (obnoxious ad warning)

Edit: Wikipedia is predictably useless on this. But points you to this book: Amazon product ASIN 0951527509 which seems to be out of print. Guess it's battle of the urban legends.

I think to be honest you are honest that you are looking at this from the wrong angle.

Sisu are only at the club because of it's disasters beforehand.

If you research other large football clubs that either had severe economic woes and / or poor owners they have always received significant local authority support

The common denominator one way or the other was financial assistance. Local authorities have in the past purchased a football ground on behalf of an ailing club and offered it back to them at a peppercorn rent. Others have loaned clubs money at low interest rates and in one case seemed to wipe a £6 million loan off altogether.

Many would have either purchased the rights to Highfield road and leased it back to the club or allowed the club the shares back in acl free. They certainly would have started the project on a 125 year lease as a minimum.

From stopping ground expansion at Highfield road to killing it with an unworkable deal at the Ricoh the council have never valued the football team.

The council decided to involve itself in the new ownership process in 2007.

The council chose sisu.

The summer that saw Keane and McAllister out, Bellamy in. Specifically since SISU came in though, not sure as I quickly got used to struggling in the Championship

Not at all, but more due to a sense of detachment than any sense of security

Almost certainly within the coming weeks. I don't think we'll drop out of it entirely though

No. That hit the nadir during the Sixfields season, whatever we have now is largely a hangover from that

They've made headlines and caused concern with regards what will happen in subsequent matches. I don't think they have much effect on SISU but then protests need to exist regardless of how instant the results are. In terms of Decathlon sales of tennis balls, massive success

6. Do you see SISU selling up anytime soon?
Not a chance. (I said on the radio that we wouldn't come back to the Ricoh a few weeks before we did, so hopefully I'm jinxy)

7. Should the club completely fold would you support a Phoenix club if one arose?
I'll say most likely not, but you can't know for sure unless it's happening

Perfect example:

Return to the Ricoh vs Gillingham: 27k on a Friday night, televised and we won 1-0.

Weekend after at home to Yeovil: 11.5k

That to me is fickle. I am not condoning the crowd size and poor is probably the wrong word to use in the first instance but a city our size should have larger crowds.

Glad to see a few are able to remember the state tell club was in before sisu. An outsider would think everything was going well before they came in. They were a symptom of the state the club was in...hey were welcomed with open arms.

I had be told in the past, the name Warwick University came about as it was on land in Warwickshire as opposed to West Midlands, and the name was agreed upon as terms for building on the land.
