Wasps billing CCFC for pitch repairs after Wycombe game (1 Viewer)

Q: Which headline is more accurate?
Reid : REVEALED: Wasps' Ricoh Arena charges Coventry City for pitch repairs due to fans' Wembley celebration
Gilbert: Coventry City asked to help pay Ricoh Arena repair costs after semi-final pitch invasion
A: The 2nd one.

Either way there is no way additional charges make sense, Rugby games do 80%+ of the damage, far more than a footie game & that pitch invasion minimal damage.

How do you know which is more accurate?

It's interesting you join the thread again too! ;)

You probably missed this ....
Evidently no invoice has been sent although a conversation did take place.
Wasps did comment on wanting us to stay and make it our home.
A position they say has not changed since we came back.
They also commented that our latest accounts say we are looking elsewhere.

The bigger issue here is TF/CCFC saying we are moving and Wasps taking it onboard.
We've been here before where we make a statement that we don't really mean but unfortunately decisions are made using this as the reasoning.
Wasps refused to comment didn't they?

I'm not sure why there are people on a Coventry City forum defending Wasps.

It's more like putting reasoning into it so as SISU/CCFC/we don't cause a barrier with Wasps that they use to throw us out.
We 'need' to get a medium term deal with Wasps in the next 12 months so we can have somewhere to play, whether we really do build a new stadium or not.

Odd that its in the Telegraph when people on this thread have been suggesting it was something made up by Reid.

Evidently they did. But so have CCFC as I see it.
The Observer says we have been charged and the CET say we have not been invoiced.
Have we been charged or not ?
Storm in a teacup that Les Reid is using for his own political gain.

Hang on, you've repeatedly stated on this thread it was all made up by Reid, now you're saying a conversation did take place.
Wasps did comment on wanting us to stay and make it our home.
A position they say has not changed since we came back.
What the article actually says is "In relation to a possible extension of the Ricoh Arena deal, Wasps said earlier this month: “Our position remains unchanged and we have not been approached to re-open discussions since they stalled last year."". Their position at that point was that they were refusing to talk to the club.
The bigger issue here is TF/CCFC saying we are moving and Wasps taking it onboard.
Rubbish. Even if they do genuinely believe Fisher is working on a new stadium they will now perfectly well we'd be looking at a timeframe of 5 - 10 years so why the refusal to engage in talks?

The devil is in the detail which we don't have.
Have we been charged or not ?
Observer says 'Charged' and Telegraph says 'Not Billed'.
Observer said:
The Coventry Observer has learned Ricoh Arena managing director Andy Gibb contacted the football club after the Sky Blues’ Checkatrade Trophy semi-final against Wycombe Wanderers on February 7.
Telegraph said:
Coventry City have been asked about covering some of the cost of Ricoh Arena pitch repairs after supporters invaded the playing surface when the club secured its first trip to Wembley in 30 years.
Hundreds of Sky Blues fans ran onto the Ricoh Arena pitch after CCFC defeated Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 in the semi-final of the Checkatrade Trophy.
Following the incident, in February, it is understood Ricoh Arena bosses claimed damage had been caused to the playing surface as a result of fans’ celebrations.
Seem pretty similar to me.

. Never denied the conversation had taken place. Just asked the question whether we had been charged or not.
. We know we need to do to resume talks. The problem comes if the court case is still going on this time next year.
. Everybody knows Fisher is not realistically working on a new stadium, but it gave CCC/Higgs and CSF the reasoning to 'move on'. If Wasps move on we are fckued.
. Agree with need a medium term deal (stadium or not).

Given the state of the pitch before hand then I think it a bit (lot) of a cheek. On the other side look at the pictures of the crowd on the pitch and lets not kid ourselves that having that many people on an already muddy damaged wet pitch will not cause additional damage

I just wonder the purpose of making an operational matter such as this public. In the scheme of things we are not talking big numbers, there must have been many things in the past where the parties did not agree and found a way to settle it without it being in the press. So why this and why now. Seems to reflect that the relationship is damaged not just at Board room level.

As for contributing, well if the contract says so don't have much choice if they want to stay a year or more yet, if it is not in the contract tough. Either way the relationship is strained even more than it seems to be already. Does it help create a circumstance to break the rental agreement?

Until there is a viable alternative CCFC have to work with not against the landlords - that doesn't mean that the landlord should be allowed to ride rough shod over CCFC. Question say this wasn't the pitch but that toilet areas or kiosks were damaged do the club have an obligation to pay for that?

Added costs like this do make you question if CCFC can afford to be at the Ricoh in L2 unless the team does very well from the off and people decide to go watch.

At this moment I would tell Wasps to do one, and would have kept it a private matter

A conversation has obviously taken place but have we been charged or is just normal process for pitch repair costs to be shared as part of the agreement?
Maybe ........
ACL to CCFC..... "Looks like we need to do more on the pitch, are you okay for 50% of the additional lighting costs, as we agreed initially ?"

Observer...... "CCFC charged for pitch invasion"
CET....... "No invoice but conversation did take place"
SBT ........ "World War 3 is imminent"

Bloody hell the lengths you go to defend Wasps, and to disparage Reid and yet defend Gilbert is laughable.

The Telegraph says no invoice has been sent, it didn't say not billed. For all we know the conversation went along the lines of pay up or we will invoice you. It may not have of course but then I can see that there may be a bigger picture.

Why don't you check with your mates at wasps who tipped you off two years ago about it becoming the JLR stadium. They seem to have their finger on the pulse and can supply up to date correct info

Doesn't it say "understands" nothing was sent.

CET "No bill has been sent" ....... means ?
It's all playing with words from both papers but without quotes from Wasps or CCFC it's a storm in a teacup.
Prefer to try and build a relationship with Wasps rather than destroy it or fuel hatred towards them.
After all we need a deal with them within the next 12 Months.

It's not really about the turf. It gives everybody the opportunity to vent off against Wasps.
Nothing wrong with that, but we do at some point need to get an agreement with them.

If they kicked the club out would you still support them?

Because I can read the 2nd line of Reid's article where he makes a statement that contradicts the implication of his headline & pretty much matches the 2nd headline.

Do you think it will ever be termed as "kicking the club out" though? Doubt that!

It will be "It was down to SISU, get a wasps season ticket on offer this year".

He will support Wasps through anything. He can't say "I know my choice is morally suspect but I like having top class rugby to watch" so he just argues semantics to try and make them look rosy in everything.

Depends how you read it, are you reading it as they have charged them as in taken money from CCFC? See your point about the 2 lines though!

Neither of us know what it means? but then both papers and journalists play on words to suit differing agendas.

Yes I agree we do need to deal with wasps in the next twelve months. Whilst I think Wasps show a degree of arrogance, and certainly seem to have forgotten what it was like to have the shoe on the other foot like when they were the tenants at Wycombe, the JR2 will do no good and the club need to secure another short-term deal at least.

If they kick us out it will because off Sisu.
We need to start to build a relationship so that doesn't happen.

I'll support Wasps from now on regardless as I enjoy watching them.
I have learned that they are here to stay and I can keep the issues separate.

Sometimes you have to just enjoy life and worry about things you have control of.
This is just a Sisu battle that I watch and have no say in.

I assume you will be resigning from your position in the Jaguar canteen when the new stadium name comes out ?

Why do people try and use that line? Why is it usually the older people who act like dicks about it?

You never see the "I've been supporting CCFC for 10 years".

50 years or 5 years, what does it change?

50 years is a long time to support and I'm proud of it.

I didn't put it down, I said why do people often try to bring that into it? See blueflint also trying that line the other week.
