Seems clear that Joe Murphy was not offered a new contract by Pressley as he wanted to reduce the wage bill, hence the guy from Bournemouth and Lee Burge. Certainly Murphy seemed keen to stay. Surely letting him go was about money, not his performances. ( same as Carl Baker despite what Pressley said).

Agreed Nick, but could the Coventry City of 2017 even find a decent goalkeeping coach with the paltry sum (SISU) would pay? We have Oggy who had made Kirkland and Westwood much better but hasn't made headway with what we have now, and we all know they aren't good enough even from a raw material point of view. For me it's a recruitment issue plus, you can't polish a turd!

Did he make Kirkland and Westwood much better? Westwood was in the League team of the season before wasn't he?

I was talking about goalkeeper coach.
So if you are given an apprentice at work to coach and he is shit you should do it for nothing.
How does that work I have coached a fair few in my time some couldn't the their lases was that my fault.

Ok your right sack him at least when we have another shit goalkeeper you can blame the new guy instead of the real reason.

Absolutely, he did. Especially from a shot stopping perspective. Kirkland barring a back injury was bound for great things.

Both keepers were far better when we sold them and both were massively missed. We had always had a good pedigree with goalkeepers before the recent lot. It's painful to see how far we have fallen in such a short space of time.

I'd say over how many managers it isn't about that? Especially when we have brought in a fair amount of players that we couldn't afford a half decent goalie.

We play in League 1, we will be able to pay for a half decent league 1 goalie. I don't think we have one at the minute.

Even Roy Carroll would have been better!
I agree but who's decision is it to bring in players who's decision is it to say what they pay doubt it is Oggy.
Will have to ask Fisher at the meeting to get this sorted once and for all.

No, I am saying we shouldn't just hire somebody because he played for us years ago and give him a job for life regardless of performance.
Your right but TBH he is the only one left at the moment who actually cares for this club.

Who would we hire who is better ?

I haven't got a list of qualified GK coaches to hand. That doesn't really disprove my point though, he shouldn't have a job for life though should he?

He obviously isn't just a GK coach either. He's been the academy manager too and he seems to do a fair bit in the dugout.

Im resigned to someone else, pretty much anyone else being in charge of GK coaching.
We won the cup with Oggy in goal, that didnt make him good but it did make him a legend, time to put that legend to bed.
Sorry Steve but your time has come and gone, if you are in charge of keeper training and promotion and cant see the problem we are facing then you need putting out to rest.

Well if we are sacking Oggy because the keepers are shit and won't train on, who are we sacking for the defenders who can't defend, the midfielders who can't pass wind and the strikers who can't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. You recruit shit then don't be surprised when they play shit.

We were top of the league and people were complaining about the same GKpers, not much said about defence, midfield nor attack till they stopped doing what they were supposed to do, when they stopped we all stopped and we go from promotion hopefulls to nailed on relegation, the only constant in the whole debacle, the keepers, and the person supposed to be training them!

I can't imagine that there is a goalkeeping coach at any team in any league who drives the recruitment policy. At the end of the day he's a goalkeeping coach. He gets thrown the goalkeepers to coach. I can't see it being anymore complicated than that.
And a shit job he appears to be doing too.. if you had someone at a place of work training and their charge was rubbish I am sure questions would be asked.. so why cant we?

I think we definitely need somebody who is more in touch with the modern game! Not somebody who retired from it nearly 20 years ago

what I dont get is in the warmup when him and the sub keeper warms up and put crosses in why they dont have somebody challenging the keeper?
.
Do the opposition do that then ?
Clever idea risking keeper injury in the warm up, clever very clever ???

Says who? How do you know he cares for the club?
I work at Land Rover, the guy I work with has been here 34 years! Doesn't mean he gives a shit about the company. He's on a great number and great pay. I'm certain that if BMW had ever offered him the same job with more pay he'd of gone!
Either he cares about the club and wants to be here, or..... he's not that good, because if he was as good as people are making out and is a draw for keepers to come and work with, why gas nobody poached him? Most teams in the top 4 leagues could afford more wages than us to poach him if he was good enough

What needs to happen is to pay the going rate to attract this better and experienced goalkeeper we all know we Need and have done since Joe Murphy was allowed to leave. Goalkeepers with experience are along with centre forwards of a similar ilk the most expensive players wages wise on the books of most teams, do you wonder why we struggle year on year in both departments.

Have to agree we have 2 shit keepers and Oggy has to sprinkle miracle dust and make 2 Gordon Bank's.

Who makes these mistakes?
Who is at fault when our defence make the same mistakes every week and our strikers don't shoot?
Their all from the same mould shame it is defected.
You get what you pay for we paid for dogshit we got it
Maybe, just maybe the reason they are shit is because the coach is shit.

But as goalkeeping coach shouldn't Oggy be going up to Mowbray and to Venus and to Slade and to Robins and be saying neither keeper here is ready enough or good enough for first team football?
How do you know he is not doing exactly that?

I don't. But if he is people clearly aren't listening to him.

I don't believe for a minute that he gets the final say, but surely as GK coach he would make recommendations and give his observations to the club. For them to just totally ignore that advice would be a pretty daft thing to do.

The academy coaches must too update the manager and board as to who is progressing and who is not.

If Oggy is telling the club that neither keeper is good enough and the club aren't listening, then what is the point of Oggy?

It is clearly apparent that both keepers are making stacks of errors and basic errors too (positioning, catching and knowing when to come for a ball or not).

It has cost us an awful lot of points.

How many managers and board members has Oggy worked under now? Must be a lot. Surely if he was the problem that some on here are trying to make out he is someone would have done something about it by now? Not only is he still in a job I don't personally remember anyone from within the club ever bad mouthing him ever. That would be odd if he's such an issue wouldn't you agree?

I have no opinion on whether Oggy should stay or go and really don't give a shit that he was a very good goalkeeper back in the day. I happen to believe that RCC is a decent keeper and is behind a very poor set of defenders, who are behind a even poorer midfield. Weak protection if you like.
Yes RCC makes mistakes and is probably lacking confidence, as is Burge, but in the games I have been to it has been shit defending, more than poor goalkeeping that has been the issue.
I would like to see a more experienced keeper take the pressure of these guys but I suspect it would be much of the same.

From what I have seen in pre match warm ups we can blame some ignorant useless kicking clingon big nosed ugly twat for shooting coaching... its also on you tube.... enough said

Sky Blue legend. Job for life.

No chance that he's actually a good coach and consecutive managers and board members recognise this meaning that the actual problem is the quality of goalkeepers he is fed to work with given that recruitment isn't part of his remit?

If he's any good he'd have gone to a bigger and better club.

I don't really think going or staying is a massive importance to the clubs fortunes but if his job is to improve goalkeeper quality it's not looking good.

In one thread you were really rating Burge as a good prospect that's improving all the time. Is it the coaching that's made him worse?

How can you be a good coach if those you're coaching don't improve?

I bet a few teachers would love to work under conditions where you can just say "what do you want from me? They're just shit" and get away with it.

Yeah but they went to that school and won the national cross country in 1946 so it doesn't matter about how good they are at actually teaching.

Either that or he's loyal to the club he's a legend at.

What I actually said about Burge is that he's a good shot stopper but a nervous goalie who suffers with confidence and would benefit greatly with a decent defense in front of him that calm's his nerves. Unless you've been watching a different team to me the latter has never happened although I will admit that his abilities seem to have peeked and I can't see him getting any better as a goalie now although obviously if we could defend he would look better.

How many keepers went backwards under Oggy? Seeing as he apparently makes keepers "worse" according to you? Murphy for instance? Presumably he went to non league after Oggy's coaching killed his career? Presumably you rate Burge then and he's just another victim of Oggy's coaching who will take giant leaps forward once Oggy has been sacked?

Exactly. I have no idea if he's a good or bad coach same as anyone else on here. I'm not going to presume he isn't though based on RCC and Burge especially when actually some goalies did well under him. Seems he's a convenient fall guy for some because he's been here consistently. Surely if he was as bad as some on here make out he would have at least been moved to one side if not sacked under a number of managers and directors. If he's got a job for life regardless because he's a legend a number of people over the years have continued to make sure that job for life is as the goalie coach rather than moving him back into the youth set up for example. I refuse to believe that the reason for that is because TF, MV, SW or any of the other numerous directors he's been employed under are worried about upsetting the fans. Same goes for managers, TM arrived with control of the budget and allowed to appoint his own people. Surely there was never a more opportune moment to ship Oggy out or back to the youth set up. It sounds like MR has the same brief Tha TM signed on with. Let's see if he ships him out.
