Don't understand the argument about 'it will dent his confidence'.
Would get it if we were talking about a defender (e.g. Jack Finch was probably picked too early in his development), but not a striker.
No doubt Slade will stick with Tudgay, but I'd pick Ponticelli as a sub at the very least.

You're right about the effect on defenders, I saw the look on Cian Harries face when there was a fair bit of abuse at the end of the Oxford game. But - what will happen if this boy misses a couple of chances, and we lose? I can't see much sympathy or understanding rolling around the Ricoh.

I'd at least have him on the bench on Tuesday. No need to put too much pressure on him, that's down to the manager to talk with him and make sure he knows he's not expected to come on for 15 mins and score a hat trick.

I'd agree a place on the bench would do him good, but starting is maybe too much too soon.

Normally I'd agree but he's just come from Sunday league football and he didn't find that step up a problem. He gets goals unlike our other strikers, he's going to be no worse than folivi. A place on the bench is fair but he wouldn't look out of place considering we are used to tudgay up there

He will have to be on the bench if Folivi is still injured.

Otherwise we are going to have another Jones/Rose combination up front if we want to change things round.

You also have to remember we haven't scored in the last 4 games. For that reason alone I would include Pontichelli in the squad.

I think its spelt Ponticelli but on this game it would be nice to have a shot at goal and maybe Ponti can provide that ;)

Arguments for and against here. For me if any player is performing well consistently for the youth team then they deserve a chance to step up. Not saying throw him straight in but ten minutes at the end of the game here and there would do him the world of good.

However the 18s are flying, free flowing attacking football and he is the striker finishing it all off. As we are all aware this is not the case in the first team and would inevitably struggle, but then again so is everyone else.

His next logical step up would be with the 23's. Previously having about 64 'first team' strikers on the books he wasn't able to get much of a look in, which makes the signing of McBean more of a farce because I feel it's probably halted this lads progress, but hopefully now he gets more consistent game time with them and proves he can do it at that level as well.

Personally think he should be given a go, we sign everybody else's youth strikers why not try our own, and whatever the outcome of his performance it unfortunately won't affect the inevitable relegation this season...more than possible they have him down next year as a starter and sisu have probably targeted him as the one they will sell Jan 2018!

If Ponticelli was to play I really think he will struggle because we don't have a midfield capable of competing never mind creating chances, so unless he is a striker that can create his own chances I don't hold out much hope...I think the reason Slade hoofs the ball over the top of midfield is because he probably thinks the strikers have a better chance of holding it up instead of our midfield

I don't get your point? Mark Hateley made 32 appearances for England. He also played for AC Milan, Monaco and Rangers. All 3 of them are bigger and more successful clubs than CCFC.
You forgot the mighty Portsmouth, we sold him to Portsmouth for 1m and a year later Portsmouth sold him to AC Milan for 10m.

So you could say nothing change at CCFC. :banghead: :wacky:

I don't think our owners will stump up for the cost of printing the letters on the back of his shirt. If he was called Smy, he'd be in:pompus:

Got to be honest I thought we wanted a million but tribunal set it at £250K.
Yeah you're right, memory playing tricks with me.

But I am right in thinking Portsmouth sold him for 1m .

No disrespect meant to Ponticelli as he has scored lots of goals this season, fact!! It was no surprise to me when we played a 16 year old upfront against Huddersfield for the 18's and he got on the scoresheet. The big point being missed here is the supply by the outstanding 18's midfield. Any half decent kid would score goals in games where they are given 10 chances. The midfield this year has 3 regulars from last season when they made Sambou a superstar! One of the current midfielders provided Sambou with 14 assists alone!

Just saying, food for thought!!

Think these academy leagues are all fucked up you could be playing u16 youngsters playing up u18 or older u18 players every club pushes players differently, that said our midfielders could be having an easy ride, i dont know but for ponticelli to score that amount of goals imagine how many he could score with experienced players around him special talent this lad.

I agree with you there that the midfield create a lot of chances. Think there'll be a few Premier League clubs willing to gamble a decent amount of money on him in the summer like Sambou.

Is it Kyle Finn with the assists? He's the best player in that group IMO, very Maddison like but he has more goals to his game. Think about 24 goals in 50 games as a scholar, not bad for a midfielder

Yes it is, I think he is a bit special. Be interesting to see what happens to him in the future. I also think Bayliss will go really far in the game, be surprised if both of these are not taken from us over the next few weeks by big clubs. Billy Stedman is another exciting prospect who will attract some attention next year.

I believe Only Bayliss has been offered a contract for next year which leaves the other second years up for grabs! Should also mention Jak Hickman another great player on his day.

Funny how these type of things work out, such an unpredictable sport, especially with young players. Dan Smith was so highly rated as an U16 and scored for fun but might not even get his pro. Tom Bayliss on the other hand was offered his scholarship really late IIRC but has developed into a fantastic young midfielder and has been duly rewarded

They ruined Dan Smith by playing him on the wing. His scared to shoot now and would rather lay it off to someone else than have ago himself. Whether thats confidence or what his been told to do i dont know.

Appreciate your guys knowledge on our kids. I have no idea. Good to know there is a bit of talent out there. Would be nice to be confident of hanging on to them.

Surely this lad needs a chance on Tuesday. 5 goals today. Why sign loan strikers with no league experience when we've got one of our own banging them in. Come on Slade give the boy a chance.

Fucking stupid old Slade would of left Ronaldo out of the squad never mind Ponticelli

Really hope this lad gets some game time soon!
