That wasn't the first word that got out that he was still waiting for a contract to be offered though.All that article really tells you is that Westwood was offered a contract and turned it down and then after getting stick from fans he went to the papers making out he was desperate to sign but could for some reason only sign if the contract had been offered earlier.
That may well be true, it also could be totally made up to make him look good and get the fans off his back.
If you have a player you want to keep you don't wait for their contract to run out. You sort it out with at least 6 months to go. Then they can't be touted by their agent. Having players contracts run out to try and save money isn't a good move. If they are decent players they will get another contract elsewhere.
So you are giving us a choice on who to believe. A player that we know wanted a new contract as he went public in the end or owners that we certainly know hate negotiating. Ummmm. Let me have a think about that one.
