Choice of Captain, dissapointing/ (1 Viewer)

I was disappointed with Thorn today for taking the armband back off Keough. We have looked a much better unit when Keough had lead from the back with the armband.

Clingan didnt do half the talking that Keough does when he has the armband, and I was disappointed I didnt see Clingan talking to Clarke after his error cost us the goal (correct me if im wrong and this happened but I dont recall seeing it).

Im pretty sure Keough would have been there, making sure he recovered from it!

I realise its not easy to change captain half way through a season, but I just dont feel that Sammy has done enough this season to warrant the armband!

The armband shouldn't matter. No special power in an armband that stops Keogh talking to Clarke.

I know it's a cliche, but we need as many captains on the pitch as we can get at the moment.

That is true.. However there were times in that game where Clingan should have been getting involved, because he had the armband, but he didn't. Like when there was a Derby corner, Crainie went down holding his head, ref continued to allow Derby to keep possession and the ball in play up until we got possession back and then he decided to pull play up, even before it went out. It took other players to question the ref on this but Sammy was nowhere to be seen.

Clingan did talk to Clarke,he had a right
go him! He then had a go at macca for being knocked off the ball in the build up.

Not the actions of a good captain imo! Having a go at Sheffers, yes as he'd been on the pitch 70+ mins, but Clarke had been on the pitch about 2 mins, after making his first app since a long term injury. Do you not think he felt shit enough? He needed guidance, not a bollocking! Was quite surprised AT didnt publicly blame Clarke in his interview!

Personally it was evident to me early in the seaason that AT called this one wrong ,Keogh earns/deserves the armband week in week out .

So one poster thinks Clingan is wrong for not speaking to Clarke, another thinks he was wrong FOR speaking to him.
Clingan...the new scapegoat.
When he leaves for better things we'll know why. Let's drive away one of our remaining decent players, who is surrounded by overhyped kids, old timers and League one players.
Only City fans could be so stupid

sorry Oakey, but I struggle to see how you consider him one of our remaining decent players. I rate some of "overhyped" kids better than I do Clingan, based on this seasons performances. If he spoke to him, and acted in a caprainly manner i wouldnt have an issue. But as he didnt, i do! Simples.

Clingan has played OK. In my view many fans criticise him because he has not shone in the playmaker role. Well, he is not being allowed to be a playmaker, in which he would do better than currently. He is being deployed as a holding midfielder, wrong position....AT persists with this because he doesn't trust anyone else to have the discipline not to wander.
This is not Clingan's best position since he is not a great tackler. He is a great passer but at the base of the diamond he has little scope to make the passes count. When he tidies up he is lambasted for sideways and back passes...yet there is no movement in front of him and we have no pace in the side.
Deegan could play base of diamond but is too erratic. Thomas was growing into the role so Clingan should have been brought into the side at right side of the diamond where his ability would be best utilised...or we could abandon the diamond. If we played a flat midfield 4 we would get the best out of Sammy but we would still have no pace or width. Maybe the promised loans will sort that out.

Clingan is a good player but a bad captain, don't think I have actually every once seen him encourage a players just gives them a bollocking all the time. Always pin point the game at Watford at home when Sammy and Hussey had handbags at the end of the match. Great leadership
