Welcome signing in my opinion if we can get a striker in aswell. He's got some experience and is a fighter so will hopefully be getting stuck in and psyching the younger lads up when its needed. And he does normally score the odd goal.

I think its a good little bit of business.

Yes hes getting on etc etc, but Hussey needs someone to teach him and guide him. He'll offer experience and abit of professionalism for the kids which will be much needed!

Looks like we could be spending a bit of the Juke wages on loans and HH. Could give us a decent chance of staying up.

If you think getting rid of Juke and bringing a 37 year old not match fit defender and a unproven 20 year old gives us a decent chance of staying up then you getting taken in by thorn comments in the paper. We need 5 or 6 players not just 2 or 3. Too little too late

So all season we've needed 2 or 3 players and now we have 2 you think we need 6??

Don't be silly... Weve got rid of Juke and to replace him a 20 year old unproven striker? We've also bought in a 37 year old who has played 2 games all season. If you think these 2 players are going to make any difference then you are deluded. We need some wingers for a start.

this is a short term deal, as long as this 37 year old can do a job at LB(problem position for us) then this is a good signing

why the moaning? were not building for anything right now, were scraping to survive

hopefully thorn gets his 2nd striker asap and we can see what the 3 players bring to the table on saturday

The pessimists amongst us will say whoever comes in is shite before they even kick a ball. I prefer to wait and see. If we end up with 2 steikers and a LB then who knows what will happen?

so, couple of small points

1) Is this the championship 31 year old left back that the accurate Cov Telegrapgh understood we were after ????

2) Why, if Pompy are in Administration, have they not been deducted points ?

I was thinking that about the point deduction, I haven't seen anything that they are officially in admin though?

On 23 November 2011, a Europe-wide arrest warrant was issued for Portsmouth F.C. owner, Vladimir Antonov, by Lithuanian prosecutors as part of an investigation into alleged asset stripping at Lithuanian bank Bankas Snoras, which is 68% owned by Antonov and went into temporary administration the previous week. Operations in another of Antonov's banks, Latvijas Krajbanka were suspended by Latvian authorities on 22 November 2011 for similar reasons.[38] Antonov was subsequently arrested at his offices in London on 24 November 2011 and has been bailed.[39]
CSI released a statement which said "In the light of the recent events at Snoras Bank, Convers Sports Initiatives (CSI) would like to reassure its companies, staff, and the fans of its teams and events, that it remains very much business as usual." The statement added that "CSI has been solely financed through the private wealth of its owners. Snoras Bank has never provided funding for the purchase of a CSI organisation, nor has it lent any money to these businesses after they have been acquired."[40] However, Lithuanian prosecutors added that they would be taking "all the necessary steps" to freeze assets belonging to Mr Antonov and his business partner.[39]
On 29 November 2011 Vladimir Antonov resigned as chairman of Portsmouth after parent company Convers Sports Initiatives entered administration.[41]

I'm willing to give Herman a chance. Ok so he's no spring chicken but he'll be a huge help to our rookie defenders, a good character in the dressing room and fully commited on the pitch. We are not in a financial position to sign anyone any good at their peak so we'l have to take a gamble on young lads (Nimely) and old warhorses (Herman). Unless the muted takeover happens in the next week or so we'll have to patch a team together using such methods, that's the reality I'm afraid

Speaking of old warhorses, didn't Carsley say he was still signed on as a player and would be willing to pull his boots back on? I think Keogh + Hermann at the back, Carsley and Deegan in the middle and Nimely and Eastwood up front we might be quite a handy side.

In reality Carsley won't be back but you can see the rest of it happening.:)

it is the parent company that's in admin but according to reports on the deal they've got rid of him as they're under embargo and the league will only let them sign someone if they get rid of someone. something doesn't quite add up but if they haven't had points taken off by now they most likley won't.

Done deal! Hermann Hreidarsson signed until end of the seasom

http://www.ccfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10269~2579141,00.html

COVENTRY City have bolstered their squad by signing experienced full-back Hermann Hreidarsson until the end of the season.

The 37-year-old has joined from Portsmouth, where he has played more than 100 league games in the Premier League and the Championship.

He has a wealth of experience, playing 89 times for Iceland and chalking up more than 400 appearances in English football with Crystal Palace, Brentford, Wimbledon, Ipswich and Charlton.

Coventry manager Andy Thorn said: "I am delighted we have been able to get this deal done.

"Hermann has a great track record and is just the sort of player we need to bring experience to the squad.

"We've got a fight on our hands between now and the end of the season and he's exactly the type of player you want on your side."

Hreidarsson's arrival follows the signing of striker Alex Nimely on loan from Manchester City on Thursday.

The perfect man to teach our young lads about positioning etc.We certainly need experience and guidance back there.HH has always been a top player, you dont lose that just because your over 35 and apparently he is still fit and strong.
I for 1 welcome his signing.:claping hands:

I think he will prove to be a great signing and provides some much needed competition/cover for Hussey who has coped reasonably well but is still relatively young and experienced at this level.

Will add some much needed fight to our team - with Keogh, Deegan and Herman in the team we may actually get our bit back! :)

Chief Commentator!
Most (Pompey) fans seem to rate him the Championship Banter Page on Facebook.

His experience will be invaluable. I just fear the way we play, we will lose the attacking side from LB. We see with Wood that when he goes forward, and we get a counter attack against us, he struggles to get back. Fortunately Thomas seems to be doing quite well when it comes to covering at the back when the full backs get forward, but as Sammy is preferred as DCM i think we might lost this.

Hope im wrong.

I also hope this other striker we're trailing has a bit more competitive time than Nemily.

It isn't: Southampton pleaded that the parent company was distinct and separate from the football club, and were laughed out of court.

HOPE YOU ARE READING THIS POINT, SISU PLANTS! IT WON'T WORK, OK?

I always thought he was better at CB, and if Hussey is fit he'll probably play there (Cranie and/or Keogh/McPake could be sold yet).

The AT quote made me laugh, though..yeah, he's experienced when it comes to relegation dog fights alright..he's lost more of them than any active player in England!

Could probably do a job till the end of the season! Welcome to the Titanic Hermann.

The Titanic sign an Iceberg. Sorry, Icelander.

Good signing, I think. I know we're not scoring - which is another problem that needs to be addressed - but some of the goals we've shipped have been pretty poor, so the prospect of lots of 0-0s rather than 1-0 defeats is certainly an improvement.

That kinda speaks volumes about the state that we are in! I'm back by the way, but only doing half-days this week. Nice and cushy.:)
