And have become a great club!

Disrespecting of pub teams too. The fact is that gauding another team or their supporters from the car is as disgusting & disgraceful as what Milwall fans did at Wembley last week. The equivalent of kicking someone while they're down, like pinching the beggar's cap with a few quid in it.

Just to emphasise the differences. A quote from Renegade Wasps Facebook.

WHY I LOVE RUGBY: So, currently on the train home from Marylebone. Still gutted. But for the whole game, despite being surrounded by Chiefs supporters, had an absolute blast. The banter between supporters was hilarious. The commiserations from Chiefs' fans were quick to be offered at full time. Not once did the atmosphere feel anything less than friendly. BUT just left Wembley station - lots of Chelsea and Arsenal supporters have got on the train. Immediately the atmosphere has changed. Aggression. Anger. Abuse. All three directed from football fans - towards rugby fans heading home; towards children minding their own business; towards anyone!! I'm ashamed just watching them. They can keep their round ball - it's oval all the way for me. #COYW

This is the reason lots of football fans can't stand rugby and its followers up their own arse, trying hard to sell their lovely day out, football is tribal but on the whole trouble is limited when you consider the amount of people watching football to rugby I would imagine that the whole attendance of the top league of rugby is less than are at one premiership ground.

That's alright then
Seems quite widespread on public transport.
Went on train to Wembley with city and never again.
Used 4 trains and all the same, full of drunken fans. Pissing in bottles, banging the roof whilst singing until it broke on one occasion. Bad language, bottles and cans everywhere. No respect for other passengers. Knocking off a policemans cap at Cov station and lucky not to be arrested. Pissing in queues on the way back in front of women and children. I could go on.
But you try and justify it.
"Lovely day out ?" LOL

Sounds nearly as bad as a wasps Christmas party.

Oh dear... The great football fans vs rugby fans tripe... Ultimately there a lot of dick heads in the world, some go to Football and others Rugby and other sports. I don't don a Cape of superiority when I watch rugby and I don't disrespect folk when I go to see city. There is a bit more camaraderie between fans with the rugby folk I guess and I've never known an atmosphere (since 87) at a football event like you get for the Premiership final. That being said away games at football are a great day out.

WHY I HATE RUGBY: (Not directed at you Italia), Eye gouging, spear tackles, running studs along calf muscles, punching. The gentlemans sport.....

To be fair weeman all things that I don't like to see in Rugby either. The thing I do like about rugby however is that the RFU have the balls to sufficiently ban players retrospectively who do offend (most of the time). In football often the FA don't want to know and a player can commit a career threatening injury and if the referee deems it only a yellow in play then it is never investigated. Will be interesting to see how the retrospective diving penalties will be applied and change the game in football.

Fair point 79. It just irks me with the whole 'superiority' rubbish when the players can blind others with eye gouging (abhorrent in my eyes...no pun intended) or paralyse someone with a spear tackle.

I don't disagree that the terraces seem a 'friendlier' place at a rugby match than football, but to say it's more of a gentlemans sport....sorry, I'm not having that.

WHY I HATE FOOTBALL
Diving and feigning injury to get a penalty or others sent off.
Arguing with the referee.
Again players also have no respect.

They are a great day out but it's again ruined by the shepherding by the police and stewards who want you in and out of town as quick as possible.
All because of the gormless few.

I have had this on one occasion as a youngster going to Villa but I got over it, I went on the coach to Wembley no bother no drunks the only pissing issue we had was a young lad who drank too much pop and asked to stop at the services. The biggest difference is rugby has to try hard to sell itself and football has no need to try.

I can't disagree but would add agents to that list.

All sports have issues athletics drugs etc, cricket appealing when it's not out or not walking but you have to hope you love more things about the sport than hate.

Can't disagree with any of that Italia and they're some of the reasons why I've fallen out of love with football over the years. My point still stands though...Rugby, where actions can cause life changing injuries, occur more often than in football and are more dangerous, yet it's called a gentlemans sport.

Not bitter but glad Wasps lost. Although I understand to a degree, I wish Coventry folk would stop on the 'we are Wasps' bandwagon. Especially when no fucks were given prior to their move to the midlands.

Just emerging from the pit after a long day yesterday making my annual trip to Twickenham sporting my CRFC shirt with pride.

Great game by both sides and ultimately glad for Exeter, they have shown that careful investment and managing expectations and slow development works in sport (if only we could have new owners with that mentality). Mind you had Wasps won I would have applauded them as they really threw everything at it. Not sure where Moffs mates were mind as there were a lot of Wasps fans there yesterday. I wish I had my camera too as I saw one chap in a Wasps shirt with MOFF on the back.... Moff, I hope that wasn't you! :)

I spoke to a few old and new Wasps fans and was surprised that the old ones spoke well of Cov City and have been coming to a few CRFC games. Still pests though!

As for city of rugby, I like the idea, the football team shouldnt be impacted by it directly and although emphasis may be on Wasps I'm sure CRFC can take some good from it. The way I see it those who don't mind rugby might be tempted to go to a game, those that really don't like the sport, and there are quite a few, will never want to go.

My mates were talking about the Boozers around Twickenham, and the lack of Wasps fans in them and on approach to the game. Not sure where they were at Twickenham, but I got the impression they thought Wasps turnout was poor compared to their home attendances. Still I wasn't there so can only go by what they said to me.

Would never wear those tatty colours ;), have been a long standing Saints fan. I also follow CRFC but not as much as I would like as rarely ever get to game.

It still baffles me how a hell of a lot of people who get the angriest and shoutiest about CCFC seem to be behind Wasps.

Still cracks me up that guy on Twitter when the news came out was going mental "fuck off home wasps" etc and within a couple of weeks he was taking selfies in Wasps shirts. I think they got instant support because they were on the opposite side to SISU as it were.

I know you were replying to Terry Gibsons perm but this post is so blinkered I felt the need to reply.

I also used the train to get to Wembley. I drove to Beaconsfield and got on the train which was predominantly full of Oxford fans. Nice atmosphere no trouble, no one drunk, no bad language, and jokes between supporters. We got off the train unsheperded right by Wembley, no police, nothing.

On the way back we went through a mass of Oxford fans to the station. No trouble, no bitterness, nothing. On the platform we chatted to lots of their fans with absolutely no problems at all. they were all polite, friendly and gracious in defeat. The same on the train back.

You cant judge anyone by your experiences and I have had more of the pleasant experience like above than ever a bad one. You can get dicks on the train all the time, who are drunk or abusive and predominantly I find its nothing to do with football.

Was going to comment similarly. Train there to London and everyone was having a beer but very polite to all on board. A group of 'lads' actually gave up their seats to a young family. All good natured and no bother.
Can't stand this superiority complex that rugby fans think they have over football fans.

Got the train up from Brighton at 8.30am and there a fair few Cov fans on there drinking can already and caused no issues. On the tube to Wembley the most abusive behaviour was by a group of Irish drunken Irish girls.

The worst behaviour I saw all day was someone pushing in the queue for the toilet.

We were all in London.

The week building up to the game there was no interest and straight after there was no interest.

Without media coverage and on here hardly anyone would even know it was on.

That's due to the difference in sports - one a global phenomenon and the other fairly marginal and globally lacks appeal - and the fact they have no community credibility. They are a plastic team with no identity

No one really cares

Never went so can't comment.
Can only comment on what I see and it's wasn't good.
I think the main difference between fans is respect.

Really? That's why on drunken drivel some bloke from Exeter admitted he told a woman with a whistle who supported wasps to fuck off?

were you trying to be ironic with the last bit?

Fact is, people go on about city of rugby but nobody really bothered.
That will not happen overnight will it? Anyone that thinks it through properly knows that. But like what we have all been saying about the lost generations now for CCFC. If they still go for football - it will increasingly be the Manchesters, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal or Spurs that they spend their money on

It's not especially though. I'm a football fan. Passing interest in rugby until we are talking the 6 nations or other internationals. No allegiance to any particular club.
But I think incidents involving rugby fans are isolated & contained to very small numbers. And when anything happens there usually a load of others telling them to pack it in. We all know what happens in football.

Its probably just a case of rugby fans have smaller chips on their shoulders & can hold their beer better

If diving, injured theatrics, time-wasting & childish baiting of the ref & each other were as rare as all the things you mentioned - professional football would be a much better spectator sport than it is currently imo

But the incidence of dangerous elbows (sometimes with intent) in football can do even more damage than eye gouging.

Most contact sports have their unacceptable destroying tactics & those willing to practice them.

In general I would much rather watch a rugby international for excitement & entertainment than much of the drivel served up in the Premiership & European cups
