that's right, they're all thick is a fuck, you sad little man.
I am not saying they are ignorant of the IRA, I'm saying they were never directly or closely effected by them and their actions feel nowhere near as significant to them as to my generation. I remember walking past the blown up Seven Stars in Guildford in my first year at Uni there, I was in the Horse & Groom now & again in my 2nd & final year.

why all the manual voting - surely time for electronic voting - could close polls at 10pm, and declare the result at 10.05
John Curtice did though didn't he, then he had a bit of self doubt, then he was pretty much vindicated give or take a few seats here & there.

The Labour kiddies are all jumping around like they won a majority. For some strange reason they attracted more of the substantial UKIP vote of 2015 than the Tories, that's all. I'm no fan of the Lib Dems but Nick Clegg's comments about MP's on all sides showing some solidarity on vital issues rather than inflaming those that they disagree on, were wise. The country takes one step forward and two steps back.

Some of the things that Clegg said were good but unfortunately they came from a sulking baby who has seen his gravy train ended twice in under a year, as I said earlier the lords had better watch out as he will be hunting his next place to do fuck all for a good salary

but that's like saying your not aware of the actions of the Nazis because you weren't around in the 2nd World War.

I'm a big fan of Mark Steel but last night he was on about taking the vote of 70 year old men because they're all tories. OK, he was half joking but it pissed me off and I turned him off.
I find it annoying to dismiss peoples rights or opinions based on age.

If there's one thing we should all agree on is that it is healthy for our county and the democratic process to have good turn outs as we did last night and as we did for the EU referendum.

No its like saying I never felt directly effected by WWII, I wasn't really but my Mum & Dad sure as hell were. Knowing about something and being effected by it are rather different things.

Very true-that is why when people like yourself and Grendel call my generation naive scroungers for wanting free tuition and maintenance grants when you had both, the young don't vote Tory. I had the luck of leaving school when the recession your generation caused got into full swing, at least you were settled in full time employment by then I guess.

No I don't have to worry about IRA bombings. Irish civilians don't have to worry about being shot for protesting either.

Well what a wonderful night that was. So pleased May has fucked it up for herself and the fucking Tories.

And as one of only two Midlands seats that voted remain I'm ecstatic that Warwick and Leamington has gone back to Labour. Brilliant.

The SNP retained my university's constituency by 2 votes-bollocks. Should have stayed a year longer or repeated my Advanced Cosmopolitan Elitism module.

It's not about excusing Corbyn, it's about working out what threats are current and real.
I no longer worry about my family walking down the street and getting blown up by an IRA bomb.
I do worry about them getting attacked by some Islamic fundamentalist with a bomb, or with a lorry or whatever he can do the most damage with.
That's why we shouldn't be arming their sponsors, that's why we shouldn't be letting them out of the country to fight in Libya or Syria.
Next time a republican bomb goes off on the British mainland I might need to revise that train of thought but until it does I'll be more concerned with a repeat of the events in London and Manchester in recent weeks and the many fuck ups by May and her colleagues that helped contribute.

If Gerry Adams was leader of the Labour party, would you have voted for him?

That was the Fife result? It does go to show that every vote counts. Never known so many close results.

IMHO, a lot of labour voters thought Corbyn was unelectable - as did most of his MPs AND Mrs May. Turns out his vision is shared by a lot of people.
I just don't get the Corbyn is great thing.

He didn't get elected. He came second in a two horse race. The Tories didn't even put anything forward worth voting for. Someone like Starmer would have done better. Maybe even won.

Would you have voted Tory if you thought they would have been propped up by an anti-gay, creationist anti birth choice party. Oh wait....

I never said anything of the sort, in fact I said almost the opposite.. just because I didn't want Corbyn & Co to wreck the economy, produce a Brexit that looks like non Brexit, parley with terrorists or scale down defence commitments it does not necessarily follow that I do not want areas of social injustice to be fixed. I also support the case for much more social housing FYI.

Its utter folly to load students with huge debts most of which will never be paid back.
Its storing up discontent and putting young people in thrall to the authorities.
More student loans won't be repaid, government believes - BBC News

There needs to be an overhaul of the system to take out the debt and finance education directly from taxes.

PS I would also prefer less students & more 'real' apprenticeships (not the mock apprenticeship shite which is really little more than cheap labour I've heard about).

The thing is if the SNP had held onto their seats against the Conservatives in Scotland then we'd be waking up to him as PM today. No he didn't take the government but he confounded all expectations. To go from a 25 point lead to a hung parliament in 6 weeks is incredible.

When the election was announced Labour had a 20 point deficit. We were told they were in chaos and would lose to a landslide. Some were even predicating it being the end of the party. He's been hammered in the press and on TV.

Off the back of that surely you can see why the result last night is consider good by Labour and their supporters?

Percentage of the vote is one of the highest Labour have drawn in the past 35 years, too.

The irony of Scotland complaining for years that they had Conservative governments faced upon then now forcing one on England is brilliant though.

I thought Cameron would go down as one of the worst PMs of our time for playing party politics and taking gamble with brexit that he didn't want. But May, wow. Triggering article 50 before calling a general election only to lose your majority is staggering incompetency.

Yes a good result to what it could have been. But it could still have been much better.

But how can anyone be celebrating a good result when the Tories still came close to getting the majority with the pathetic election campaign they ran.

I doubt I'll ever have the chance to vote for a member or ex member of the IRA. The tory voting electorate for Croydon however..........

I was after a yes or no cvd. Whats your answer?

Yep, North East Fife which was Ming Campbell's seat for the Lib Dems until 2015. I voted Lib Dem there 2 years ago and the SNP guy crept in because the Tories made a fist of contesting the seat too which split the vote. Feels so gutting not to have been able to vote there again in light of that result.
