Would be better off going down the route Wilson did. Get games in and start scoring at this level then move up to the Championship as a potential starter rather than going now to some PL side where his chances are low of breaking through.

agreed. apart from Wilson got the games at League One, so if taking your advice, he should move up a league

Anyway to me the story reads like his agent has been in touch with The Sun (most transfer stories happen this way). Trying to get his name out there more & hype him up.

I think clubs like Everton and Lesta will have had scouts at most U23 games, and will already know about him. Proper football scouts, unlike our sad set-up

I think he has a good chance of playing some games for us next season. In youth football you get them players who can dominate at youth level because of sheer strength & size compared to opponents but Ponticelli isn't of them. Ones that come to mind are Shaun Jeffers and Nathan Cameron, they both struggled when they weren't the strongest players on the pitch and everyone else had nearly catched up.

He seems a late developer like Addmola Lookman who didn't join Charlton until 17.

If I were him there is no way I'd stay. He was banging in goals last year yet we chose to give chances to an LA galaxy reserve, a derby u18, a Watford u18 and a West Brom u18!

Exactly the same situation as Sambou last year. Didn't give him a chance, so he left for more money and fair play to him. People will say that JP isnt ready but how would anyone know that if he weren't given a chance. I watched Tudgay a lot last year and he weren't ready.

I hope I am wrong but he will leave for a pittance to go to a PL club. The club will then turn around and say that we offered him a very good deal for an 18yr old.

Good points well made. But on a point of order; why do people turn around before they say stuff?

I've always wondered why people who commit suicide 'turn the gun on themselves', why don't they just shoot themself?

I'd be surprised if any of the managers would even know what age a young player joined a club, be that U8 or U17. He'll play if the manager thinks he's good enough

The lad was approached by a few premier clubs who offered him good money to join their youth set ups ( far more than we pay him). He turned them all down for a chance to play 1st team football with us. So lets hope he is still thinking that way.
But if someone like Leicester offer him a small fortune to go there, can you really blame him for setting himself up ?

Sounds like a sensible lad. From reports he is outstanding at U18 level but didn't make an immediate impact in games he played for the U23's
We all like to see young home grown players given a chance at first team level but part of a managers job is to protect young players
As we all know there are plenty of posters on this forum and twitter who would be only too quick to denounce a young lad as 'useless, doesn't care, clueless' and so on if they have a bad game no matter how young they are

Ok tell me why a player like andre wright gets a run out and ponticelli didnt?

Ponticelli has only been here just over a year and has really started to flourish in the U18's and is still new to the step up to academy level.
Why would you want to throw him in the first team to dent his confidence in a poor side what created little, when he's developing into a decent prospect in a exciting youth side.

Just because he's scoring for fun in a u18 league doesn't mean he's gonna do the same for the first team. He'd not be playing against similar size kids in league one, and he'd likely of been put out wide too like Andre Wright was and we'd all label him crap.

Let him develop be confident, replicate that in the u23's and his place in the match day 18 will come.
He'd of learned a lot from last season so hopefully this year we will see him if we can hold on to him and he wants to stay.

At the time Andre wright came in he would of been seen to be closer to the first team having had previous loan spells and is physically more developed.

He has got bags of potential, but not proven as yet. I hope he stays so that he can improve under Robins and show what quality he really has.

I hope he isn't thrown under the bus too early as we have seen too many times with others in the recent past.

I'd stay 100% and fully trust management in not playing him last season.
