He is just being a tolerant liberal.
That means he is tolerant to every view unless he disagrees with it. For example in his case, gay relationships and Brexit.

I found him an absolute cretin. Wants a second referendum on brexit and his policies are terrible. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Give him one mark and the BBC tv debate I found him whitty and decent. I get the sense he is just a typical politician and says one thing in front of the camera and gets home and becomes a different man. Probably a big leave voter deep down.

Let's hope so...I always find him a caeful listener & calm & considered in responses. Wouldn't say I always agree with his answers but mostly sets out a good rationale for his stance

Tolerant liberals don't put their faith in a wizard in the sky above their party's liberal policies. Maybe he is in the wrong party. Letting faith influence your leadership is more of a May thing. Perhaps he should defect to the Tories...

I found Farron quite likeable. Whilst not agreeing with him on his religious beliefs, his attitude towards homosexuality or his denial of the referendum result (I voted remain but accept the vote was leave) I found him decent and principled. As a leader of his party he never had the same charisma as ashdown, the perceptive intelligence of Kennedy, the gravitas of Campbell or the leadership of clegg. He was ok but uninspiring. Personally think the liberals will never be more than a 10-15 seat party whoever they elect as leader.

If Tim Farron has a view based off whatever ideology that he is not comfortable with an issue a tolerant society would accept his right to have that view.
It seems there is a very disturbing trend in this country of a national socialist view from the left of suppression of freedom of speech and expression.

Maybe its an excuse to step down after a poor showing, fall on your sword with a bit of grace? I'm surprised he took on the job of leader if there was likely to be a conflict at some point, surely he's been a christian longer than an mp.
Its all about image though unfortunately, Clegg and Vince looked the part and Mrs Miggins will always warm to nice men and nice boys. Unlike that c**t Danny Alexander, I don't think I saw that sour git smile in 5 years of power. Didn't think his face could fall any further - until he lost his seat.
Who hasn't accepted his right to believe what he wants to? Just that being a member of a tolerant liberal party and believing in a - highly improbable - sky wizard and the teachings of an old book of desert village life doesn't fit that well.
National socialist is the very opposite of campaigning for a second referendum on membership of a multinational organization...

Surely a tolerant society would tolerate alternate views rather than tell us what views are right and wrong.

The left in society are behaving more like fascists every day in this country. You have to have a certain belief or you are wrong.
Who has told you what is right and wrong? The church? You don't have to accept it.

Well the youth of today - namely the Natuinal Union of Students have banned Mr Tatchell from student debates at Cambridge and have labelled him a fascist and a transgender phobe

If a Christian decided he was not prepared to decorate a wedding cake for a gay couple would s liberal support these people or oppose them?
If the people are in business then they are not allowed to discriminate. I have a business and serve anyone - who doesn't offend my other customers by his /her actions. I have banned people for giving a Hitler salute though.
If Tatchell gives a Hitler salute or burns books in my vicinity, then I would ban him to.

Who? The person who gave a Hitler salute in public? Because it is illegal here. I would serve a gay couple. Being gay is not associated with mass murder.
I would also serve Christian bigots as long as they don't interfere with my other customers.
