Ahead of Wes Craven ;)

I can understand if you don't like the genre, but then if I don't like spy thrillers, was born in the 1990s, and was no fan of lecherous old men who could raise an eyebrow, I'd never have heard of Roger Moore either.

(Fortunately, I'm a big fan of lecherous old men...o_O)
Cheers old boy.

Also, have to add in to the mix that just because you or someone else hasn't heard of someone it doesn't mean they don't warrant any coverage.

Case in point was when Philip Seymour Hoffman died a fair few people were contacting the Beeb to complain as why a bloke they had never, ever heard of had a section about his demise on the main TV news!

Hoffman was only 46, but had already won one Oscar, one BAFTA, one Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar 4 times, a BAFTA five times, a Golden Globe five times and a Tony Award three times.
Great actor and loss to the industry at a relatively young age.

Very important player in horror film history, Bazza and a very well known figure for anyone who knows a bit about film.
You mean film-makers of sorts. Its the actors who are the celebrities. Not the directors & producers.
And 'anyone who know a bit about film' I suspect is an admission of it being much less than 90%

Yeah, I find it puzzling too. You think of horror films and he is right up there with the likes of Wes Craven etc.

You only have to watch the Walking Dead to see his mark written all over it.
I assure you I don't think of horror or any particular films. I suspect a lot of people would know who is, but his death (no disrespect to him btw) means little or nothing to at least 75% of us.
Whereas virtually everyone over the age of 15 probably would identify people like Roger Moore...he is a celebrity/public figure. Romero is a bloke who made horror (niche) films

Did we miss Chuck Blazer the other day, the fat corrupt FIFA executive & whistle blower.

25 maybe, but not 15 I would say.

But does it really just matter whether most people have heard anything about someone? Surely it matters just as much how important they are to the field they were in.

Romero was very famous to anyone who likes their movies. Don't have to be a horror fan. Just a movie fan would do it. And there wouldn't be 28 Days Later and the Walking Dead without him, so I dare say an awful lot of TWD fans will most certainly know of him and admire him too.

Been a few deaths on here announced where I have had to look the person up, but they have still deserved their place for what they have achieved and the legacy they have left. :)

No. I am the sole judge of these things...because I have no interest or only shallow interest in anything whatsoever except ME. AND Coventry City. And sex.

Martin Landau dead at 89.
He turned down the role of Spock in Star Trek!
I remember him from Mission Impossible but most of all I liked him in the series Space 1999.
That was a brilliant series and most of the episodes are on Youtube.
Definitely worth a look if you are into Sci-Fi.

Only just clocked this, hadn't realised he had died as it hadn't made the big press. Shame, enjoyed him in Space and I was only watching him the other night in the Outer Limits. At least he had a fairly long life and like a lot of actors, continued to keep working in his "twilight" years because he obviously enjoyed it.

It's kind of sad when you first hear of someone then you look them up on Wikipedia and find out they died some years ago.
Happened to me twice recently, discovered two great singers on Youtube, a guy and a woman.
Both Italian singers I'd never heard of before. They both sang on the soundtrack of a film I really liked.
Turns out they were really famous in Italy but nowhere else. There is a whole world of talented people who are virtually unknown outside their own countries.

And even in their own countries. There are hundreds of bands who deserved a wider audience but never got the breaks.

Yeah, just found out Jermaine Stewart of 'We don' the have to take our clothes off' fame bought the farm about 20 years ago!

And Phyllis Nelson too.

Used to love All Creatures Great and Small. Was just thinking the other day surprised it hasn't been given the reboot treatment.

Now I'm worried! I'm creeping up to the sort of age which is popular with the Grim Reaper! Ah, bugger it! I've lived a pretty good life and beaten four bastard heart attacks! Come at me Reaper! Give it all ya got!

He was very big in the mid sixties and then on into the seventies. Very talented actor.
