Also with regards O'Brien the save he made from the deflection in the first half was great and I doubt many keepers at this level would have managed that.

Yeah, that one with his feet? We sit in line with the goal line and it was a great save.

We lost 1 nil due to a goalkeeping error

We may have lost 1-0 due to goalkeeper error, but that's not a good enough excuse. We should be able to adapt to situations like this and rectify it when it occurs. Most teams who have successfully chased promotion have adapted to such situations. We have most of the time in the past failed on this hence have never really had a sniff of even the playoffs since we were relegated from the Prem.

I really hope to god this time this is a one off and come back fighting in the next couple of games and many more games after Christmas/New year.

Fingers crossed X

play off form ?

Hopefully .... but many times we have witnessed there form after the new year. In the past seem to sprint at a beginning of a marathon then half way through run. out of steam.

Hopefully and especially this important season this pattern does not repeat itself.
Heavens forbid.

looking at the 3-0 or 4-0 predictions today I thought we were getting above ourselves, there are many teams that will turn us over this season.
Newport just proved it, weak up front we don't have a 20+ goals a season forward.
If you think we lost that game up front today you're nuts. We created 1 half chance all game.

Not wishing to be picky, but there was the Andreu chance and then a multiple chance just before half time where we had 3 or 4 stabs at it right on the goal line and one almighty goalmouth scramble.

Anyone know where Steve Taylor was today?

Robins was out on the pitch instead of him for the warm up and didn't see him in the dugout either.

Well the goalmouth scramble was just that - a bit of ping pong. Not really a created chance and I watched it back a couple of times and there was never a moment where I thought 'that should have been a goal'. But the actual number of chances created wasn't my point. Not having this mythical beast of a '20+ goals a season forward' wasn't the reason why we lost today. e.g. Kelly spent more time at right back than centre mid in the first half while Grimmer bombed on and barely managed a pass to feet in the opposition half. That left us with nothing in the middle and we ended up chipping balls down the line. The tactics were wrong from the start and it didn't play to our strengths. Hopefully Robins has learned a bit about teams who will come to the Ricoh and play like that and it can be chalked off as a bad day in the office.

Discuss the Coventry City - Newport County match, tactics and predictions :)
Shocking performance first half, Robins needs to give them a right talking to.

Commiserations to the non deluded Coventry fans who said it as it is, the better team won.

There was plenty on here who set themselves up for a slice of humble pie though - hope it tastes good :emoji_wave:

Bad day at the office today, Newport got it right and we let them get it right, our passing was at times abysmal, giving the ball away under no pressure is inexcusable, all our players were at it, maybe thats something we have to expect to some degree at this level at times but bloody hell if you cannot find a team mate when you are under no pressure whatsoever maybe you should look for a new career.
Newport had a couple of decent players, I liked their number 6 Ben White very good, Jodi didn't get much change from him but this is where he can kick on to the next level if he has it in him because he is obviously our prime creative force atm so they will double up on him, Robins needs to work on him and get the rest of the team to support him in numbers when this happens to give options for Jones to pass and take some of their players out of the game but its a learning curve for the kid.
Shame about O'Briens cock up because he pulled off a great reflex save in the 1st half after a deflection and his handling was decent, his kicking needs a little improvement but still keep him in goal because he only made 1 error unlike the rest of the team.
Don't seem to be working with Beavon and McNulty so that needs changing, Andreu when he came on showed what Beavon should be doing, some class touches in his 30 minutes on the pitch which were probably more than Beavon has done so far this season which is a shame because I like Beavon but he isn't really offering any goal threat at present, is it possible for Willis to last an entire match? Rod motm for me but we need more creativity in the team because Vincetti out wide isn't happening, perhaps play him centre mid when he doesn't need so much pace but his first touch would have to improve an awful lot

We played badly they got more than what they came for, unfortunately when teams like this score first the game is dead if you don't have a strong ref it should have been more than ten minutes added time.

Andreu is way ahead of Beavon a man who seems to be scared of going into the box. Today was a day where you need somebody a bit different like Kyle Reid.

Looking back on today as disappointing as it is.

I'm glad this type of defeat has happened at the start of the season. Gives us time to evaluate what went wrong and work on it.

Hopefully this will be a learning curve for management and players and will come out stronger next week.

Rather we get the losses out the way early on

Second best from the first whistle

Newport lucky with the goal after a cock up by Obrien

I blame Adge for giving in and attending after only 2 games, and Oggy for being Obriens trainer :)
Indeed! My half season ticket, 12 or 6 match package or pay on the gate has now gone back to the 1st week in January instead of Christmas.:)

Least that will shut the o'brien is the best keeper in years merchants up.

Burge is still out best keeper
old Chinese proverb say, " do not start eulogising about your keeper, until he's actually saved a shot on target!"
How many saves did O'Brien had to make in the first two games? Would be a mistake to judge a keeper as excellent when they've had sod all to do.

One thing that concerned me today and always has been a problem, is that of Jordan Willis' distribution. It is very, very poor and usually consists of exocet missile style long whacks downfield to no-one in particular. The amount of times we conceded possession in that fashion was quite worrying.

MR and Oggy had words with Willis on the touchline twice during the game. Each time Willis walked away like a scolded cat. I don't think he likes criticism! He obviously thinks that he's much better than he actually is. I would prefer Hyam to be honest. I reckon MR will pick Hyam for the Yeovil game.

No, it's fair enough. I don't know where the 4-0 thrashings came from, though I'm sure some were tongue in cheek.

Newport didn't particularly look that threatening, but were well organised and disciplined and hassled and closed down all match long.

They definitely deserved at least a point.

I thought they would run out of steam but fair play to them they chased all game, never gave us much time on the ball so we then needed a plan B but sadly didn't appear to have one and on showings so far Biamou isn't even plane X Y or Z

Another thing it should only be a blip we are 4th and 1 point off top place but lets hope goals don't become a problem as the season wears on

He's on the luggage carousel going round and round waiting for the bag with his boots in to show up.

He has to be better than he has shown so far surely. We need to give him time.

Injoy the result , it won't last , teams will see how you play and just sit back and draw you out to get in behind your defence !!!

Can that 'is this your Wembley' song not be sung again. Would be embarrassing at the best of times but in a ground we don't own with Wasps logos all over the place it makes us look stupid.

It was very enjoyable, cheers.

Bias aside, you were outplayed, out battled and outwitted for 70 minutes of the game, we sat back the last 20 and soaked up the pressure.

To be fair the little pixie on the wing looked dangerous until he tripped up on his pony tail and that's about it, at best you looked average.

We were composed, disciplined and organised and got the result we deserved.

You were beaten by a better team, it's as simple as that.
