If he's a free agent can't we theoretically sign him whenever we want or can you only register players by the end of today?

The tweet says this window.... That closes at 11 tonight.

Baker can still sign tomorrow and be in the squad for Saturday if his registration has been done by noon tomorrow.

I reckon he'll be signed up tomorrow... when do the club ever 'announce' they are done on deadline day?

Could be key phrasing saying in this window. As has been alluded to, if he's a free agent we can get him tomorrow. That wouldn't be in the window.

Baker is on far more than we pay. He will be actively looking now to ensure his pay is not decreased

Also, how can they say business has finished in this window while there are still two and a half hours left?

Are they seriously trying to tell us that if a £3m offer came in for Jones they would say 'Sorry, our business is done?'

Baker would come back in a heart beat I'm sure

If he's paid what he wants. Regarding "sky blue Carl" it's somewhat amusing a Portsmouth fan was saying what a great guy he is and how he is Pompey through and through and even his kids wear Portsmouth track suits around Coventry.

Sound familiar?

Not really fair that though, Grendel.

His kids must be young I would imagine, what with him in his early 30's. He said they were City supporters and I am sure they indeed were and probably still are. Kids are kids though and I'm sure when their dad went to Pompey they started supporting them too. It's what many kids do.

I don't see any problem them being Pompey AND City fans.

Dads are supposed to be your hero as a kid. I'm sure any kid who's dad is a professional footballer supports whatever team their dad is playing for at any given time and wear the colours that their dad currently wears with pride. Nothing odd in that.

Unless he plays for Man United and then you pull on the Sky Blue..

He is the same as every other footballer and will go where ever he is paid the most money.
I very much doubt it will be to us as he has one more contract and two more seasons st the most.

Its an absolute nonsense... and only gullible fans will fall for it... or use it to try and prove a point over other fans.

Did I hear/see that he has just become a dad again? If so, I'd be surprised if the Indian League was a 'goer'. If he wouldn't uproot from Solihull to Pompey, then I can't see him making that trek with a new arrival?

Not yet, his wife is pregnant.

Chief Commentator!
The reason people bang on about him is a) he scored a few goals in L1, b) he clearly enjoyed playing for us, and he always played like he cared (which we haven't seen much of in the last year or two), c) he was good on social media, and for me the biggest of all, d) he was unfairly treated by Pressley. The combination of all of those points creates what we have today - a clamour for his return. FWIW I'm in favour of him coming back, but if he didn't it wouldn't particularly concern me.

C is an interesting point giv nthst he's now been poorly treated by another manager in Jackett

Wonder why he seems to be a fall guy despite fans loving him so much? No doubting he wears his heart on the sleeve and clearly that passion wasn't just for us (otherwise why would Pompey fans like him so much too?)

Keep the faith. There hasn't been a Carlbakerday today but there is sure to be one tomorrow.
Fuck me, when will this ever end?????????

In fairness he probably gets the kids' clothes either for free or at a big discount - come on he ain't so rich he's going to turn down free/cheap gear for his kids, they cost a lot of money to clothe these days, you know!

Baker would come back in a heart beat I'm sure
So why isn't he here?

Robins has ruled it out:

"There is no link with Carl Baker. I speak with Carl regularly and we spoke not so long ago and we spoke about one or two things that might be happening for him.

"I have a lot of time for Carl and what he did for me last time but I think there is something else on the horizon for Carl this time.
