If he didn't want recognition he would have just done it and sent the stuff, I think the left over kit should be used locally and then if nobody wants it then send it elsewhere.
He is not asking for recognition for himself or SISU though, which is what he is being accused of. He thinks it is 'something we [the first English club to visit and support a refugee camp] should all be very proud of, as we help some of the most disadvantaged people in the world'. Shouldn't we be proud of such a unique gesture?
As for this 'charity begins at home' bullshit - it's just an insular argument suggesting that nothing is currently being done but there is. There's plenty already going on through Sky Blues in the Community. They already run an 'inclusion' objective helping:
  • Children and adults with physical or learning disabilities
  • Children and adults with Down’s syndrome
  • Looked-after children
  • Young offenders
  • Refugees and asylum seekers
  • Young people involved in anti-social behaviour

As much as Fisher's the big baddie, I'm happy we're a club that does this. Didn't we send a job lot of old kits to Africa too? I remember them asking for donations a few years back.

Yeah

Coventry City support 'EduCaid' in order to provide education to children in Sierra Leone

Coventry City Football Club is supporting a charity which helps to promote and provide education to children in Sierra Leone after a young boy was spotted wearing a Sky Blues shirt during a BBC news report before Christmas.

I didn't realise Educaid were behind that, we've (personally) been involved with them before. That's cool

That is a fucking disgusting attitude towards it, did you even read the full article? Where is he pretending to be a hero or chalking up PR for SISU? 'Coventry City will be supporting those living in the camp' 'Coventry City can and will help these people' 'Coventry City has arranged to send a huge amount of old, used and second hand football kit'. SISU are not even mentioned - the decision to send kit was made with David Busst and Richard Stevens. Should be ashamed of yourself for trying to slight any charity donations by dragging PR and politics into it.

Don't accuse me of having a "fucking disgusting attitude". Yes I have read the full article and you obviously didn't read my whole post.
The first line clearly states " I commend Tim for visiting and donating ......"
My point is why put an article in the programme and then on the website.
I mention SISU because Fisher represents SISU. He is not paid by CCFC but SISU.
If David Busst and co have arranged it then left them have the glory if that's what they want.

This is where Coventry City can and will help these people. The fight against ISIS goes on in Syria and Iraq with people continuing to be displaced from their homes and everyday lives.

Following conversations with Club CEO Dave Boddy, Academy Manager Rich Stevens and Sky Blues in the Community Manager Dave Busst on my return from Iraq, I am delighted to say that Coventry City has arranged to send a huge amount of old, used and second hand football kit to the camp to support and run the football efforts in the camp.

The people I met, both refugees and aid workers in the camp, are truly remarkable and visiting the camp really does put our lives in the UK into context.

We are the first English club to visit and support a refugee camp in this manner and this is something we should all be very proud of, as we help some of the most disadvantaged people in the world.

It's sending old football gear, which will be from CCFC. If they were sending dodgy legal advice, it would be from SISU.

Might seem selfish, but still think we should try and scout them!

While I don't think he has gone out there purposely to make CCFC fans love him or attempt it, there's no reason why it shouldn't be on the website as the stuff about kits has been previously. If anything half decent is done at the club, why not shout about it?

You think that is why they did it ??
So, the fans could be proud.
I have been called a moron and having a disgusting attitude today.
So much for peace and love !!

I donate time, effort and money on a regular basis to all sorts of charities home and abroad.
I don't seek PR and kudos from it.
Most people do it in a quiet and moderate way under the radar. Those with "class" do anyway, in my opinion.
That's my point Mr Robbie Fuckin Keane.

It reads as Coventry City helping, rather than Tim Fisher though?

Why is painting Coventry City in a good light such a bad thing? I very much doubt people will forget everything else going on, but can still think "fair play for this".

People will see them decked out in CCFC gear and think of CCFC, not Tim Fisher.

CCFC / SBITC don't shout loud enough about the decent things they actually do, but are starting to this season.

Of course I have no problem with CCFC being seen in a good light.
My objection is Fisher trying to promote himself as the good guy.
The article reads that "he" visited Iraq and on "his" return discussed with DB and RS and now kit is being sent.
As per my original post, I commend the club for arranging.
To repeat earlier, yes donate, yes support charities but don't try to get cheap positive publicity from it, especially when your name is Tim Fisher.
If you want to do something positive for CCFC fans tell us about the academy and where we are playing next season.
PUSB.

Yes and Coventry City are helping.

I am delighted to say that Coventry City has arranged

how Coventry City will be supporting those that are living in the camp

This is where Coventry City can and will help these people.

It could have been a lot self serving with the wording to him as an individual rather than "we" as in Coventry City if they wanted it to be. I read it and see it as CCFC helping out rather than Fisher.

Again, nobody is going to suddenly forget everything else because of it and if they see a CCFC shirt on Comic Relief they will think of CCFC, not Fisher.

You can argue the toss about it all you like, but for me it has brought home the awareness and plight of the Darashakran camp in Northern Iraq and yes some kudos goes to CCFC and even a little to Fisher also.
I certainly won't be going to Iraq anytime soon, but if there's a clothing drive, bucket collection etc. I'll certainly be adding to it.

I did read your whole sorry post, it was only 4 sentences. The first in which you 'commended' him and the next 3 used to slag him off for it, suggesting he was: not discreet enough, making PR out of it, pretending he's a hero, raised a snide and leading question about the funding of the trip and then insinuated that they shouldn't be doing foreign charity at all because 'charity begins at home'. (Something you've now admitted you do too)
'From the boardroom' is published on the website after every home game, that hasn't changed. Between you and Fisher, the only person making this about him is you. Letting your hatred of an individual get in the way of recognising this for what it is, is a disgusting attitude. If you think he's flown all the way out there for a cheap publicity stunt with all the other outstanding issues, you're as bonkers as Fisher is.

because they want CCFC supporters to contribute, surely putting it in the program and on the website is the ideal place to start?

I don't understand why TF had to actually inspect the camp personally. Surely the club could have donated the old kits without his personal visit! Everyone knows (or should know) the situation out there in N Iraq.

But, no, TF has to get his photo out in the media to enhance his image as the next Bob Geldoff.

Finally, how much did his trip cost versus the actual value of the shirts donated? If he really cared he would have stayed at home and donated the cash he used for his heroic trip instead.

So do you believe he has flown out there directly from the UK to visit an Iraqi refugee camp with the sole purpose of forging links with CCFC.
If that is the case I take my hat of to him. Seriously I do.
With all the other priorities he must have at the moment, it is highly commendable.

Nobody is saying that was the sole reason are they?

Not fussed if it was him, boddy or an academy coach who is it there and thought it would be a good thing for ccfc to do.

Some people. Hate is such a distructive emotion. Not directed at anyone in particular but sometimes the negativity needs to be put aside just occassionally.

How do you know he went especially for that?

Again, the article could be much more about a personal ego of it wanted to be, all of the credit seems to be about ccfc helping.

or he could have done fuck all, and like most people who do fuck all, he could of sat back and criticised those that try and do something.

No, he has other roles outside of CCFC. We don't know why he was there or who paid for the trip and in the context of what the club has done I think it's irrelevant.

I've donated to Oxfam every month since I got my first salary back in 1998. Unlike TF I don't need to inspect Oxfam's work in person in order to do my bit.

But the higher your profile the more publicity you can generate for a charity/good cause.
The blokes tenure a City has been a disaster, that doesn't mean that occasionally he doesn't get something right.

Totally agree with this. Hate certainly is a destructive emotion.
I certainly don't hate Fisher, dislike yes, as I think he's a prize nob the majority of the time, but he's done ok by me on this.
