It's like the Little Red Hen and the Grains of Wheat isn't it? One goes without much all one's life and saves; but when you get to retirement age it's not fair and we should share our savings. McDonnell says he wants to tax savings at 20% as a wealth tax. He can fuck off.

All it would do is stop people from saving. Then they would need help when retiring.

Some people just don't have a clue.

Oh well. Just about to go to work in my 17 year old car so I can earn some money for the taxman and a little bit more for my pension fund. And park in the middle of lots of new cars where the 'owners' moan about being skint.

Not entirely as it was exempted from income tax. If they choose to invest their money outside of a tax-exempt scheme then they're free to access their money at any time they wish.

The point is the current rules perpetuate the class division between those who can afford to save for a private pension and those who can't.

It's not exempt on income tax. You don't pay income tax on it as you save but you pay when you take it out.

My complaint is that those who could afford a private pension fund are (or were) allowed access to it from the age of 55 whereas those who couldn't afford to save for one are forced to wait until they reach state pension age before they can access their state pension.

That is now changing slightly and access in future will be limited to a minimum of five years before state pension age.

So it boils down to not being happy that some people earn more money than others; thought as much.

So you save a bit of tax on contributions and then carry on paying income tax after retirement. And also don't need help from the government in your retirement.

Yes you can take out 25% tax free. But you are taxed on the rest. So if I live to 79 I will have paid tax for 20 years of retirement. The only good thing is once I reach 67 I won't have to pay NI contributions.

It isn't any point going over his head. It is not having an excuse for an over 50% rise in the number of people living in the UK that were not born here in 10 years. And their children born here would have counteredthe numbers and not added to them.

I wouldn't have the slightest problem with it if we had homes for everyone and the infrastructure to go with it. But we don't.

My older children didn't have a problem getting their own home. But the younger ones are in a totally different situation. Yet the pro EU lot blame everyone and everything except for what has been a big part of the cause of it all.

The rise in immigration reflects the modern world, travel is easier, language barriers have been broken down due to better world education this has mobilised those motivated to look for something else. The world is shrinking and globalisation is an unstoppable force and voting out ultimately isn’t going to change anything other than the dynamics of where that immigration comes from. You’ll going to be like someone trying to plug a damn, you’ll but a finger in one hole and another one will appear. The country needs a diverse workforce skilled and unskilled and we can’t fill every position without immigration and no government is going to deliberately stifle the economy by stopping people coming here to fill gaps in our workforce.

So that leaves you two choices, you either embrace the diversity that immigration brings to the country or you sit around moping about it blaming all our woes on everyone else instead of holding the government to account on a lack of investment in the NHS, house building, the education system. Basically all the things that aren’t going to improve when we leave the EU and you’ll have to look for someone else to blame.

Also if you think that a graph of British born people leaving the UK doesn’t follow the same trends you’ll fooling yourself. We’re no different to the people arriving.

The sexual abuse of anyone has nothing to with diversity, it’s to do with a lack of decency and should never be swept under the carpet whether it’s happening in churches, Westminster, Hollywood, the BBC, the care system or within sections of ethnic minority’s, wherever it’s happening. And there is nowhere within our society where it isn’t happening to some degree and people are being protected. With or without immigration.

I understand that, but in an environment where private pensions values have been destroyed it creates issues not only for people on private pensions but for the Government that has to shell out for the public pensions. Do you remember the 2nd state pension (SERPS), that was canned going forward because of spiralling costs to the public purse (and of course the pensions minister of the time, Liberal Steve Webb, lied about the reasons). The way to fix this is to make the pension holder use the market and take a risk like everyone else, even if it wasn't a 100% risk it would remove the problem from the public purse and make public finances more predicable in the long/medium term.
