There are arguments about whether this will make a difference to organ donation. Can't understand it myself why folk don't donate. Give others a chance to live. If I could I would stipulate donating to consenters and not to opt-outers. Why should you receive if you are not prepared to give? And what's so precious about a body part that will be rotting within minutes of death?

Sometimes it's on religious grounds though isn't it.

I don’t own you and neither does the state. I have had a donor card since I was 16 and made damn sure my family know my wishes but if I didn’t feel like that who am I to say the state owns your body parts

Yes we're all aware of that but the problem is that not enough people do so that's why we're discussing presumed consent.

I'd have a card in the other pocket saying to ignore any card in the other pockets.

What they really need to have is a national database for all the personal options.
I'm sure a computer savvy person could set this up in a few days.
It would just have a list of options and you would check the ones you want.
No more donor cards, bracelets or obscure checkboxes on paper forms.
The Police and Emergency Services would have instant access to it.
I guess you'd still have the problem of what to do about people who had never set their options.

You own your own body, but when it comes to suicide, if you thinking about topping yourself, you don't currently own your own mind so custody of it should be taken temporarily whilst you find it again.
