Even though we beat Wycombe, every one of their players knew the plan and what they were doing. I think that's why we struggle more against the lower teams. Same with Morecambe, they had a game plan to play through their big striker time and time again and it paid off.

Tell you what Otis, a bit off post, but have a look at our results for 66/67, our famous promotion season. We lost at Huddersfield on November 19, and that was the last time we lost that season. 25 games, 15 wins, 10 draws, and we only won the league on the last game of the season! How much would we love a run half as good as that??

Really bloody annoys me. I only started going that first season in the top division, AFTER the Sky Blue revolution and I have seen so much perpetual struggle over the years.

To be fair, 3 of those 4 have only got injured in the last month. I still maintain it's mostly the way we set up, although how deep our defence is sitting is becoming as much of an issue as the gap was in attacking midfield. It forces the long ball out of Doyle and the CBs towards a completely isolated Biamou.

Agree with all of that other than the Willis part - thought he was our best defender today (although didn't get forward much).

We got caught into playing the game Port Vale wanted. The pitch didn't help matters & neither did the ref who let a lot of pushing & shoving go, particularly their central defenders on McNulty & Biamou who as a result just couldn't get in the game. Watching the game I thought it was Beavon who put in he 2 crap crosses at the end rather than Ponticelli but looks like I was wrong. Anyhow, while I have no problem as such with making the subs we did, given the match situation, it made no sense putting Ponticelli wide instead of Beavon, when Ponticelli's strength is his goal scoring & weakness his build up play, with the opposite applying to Beavon.

Yeh, I always consider myself lucky, as well as God knows how many years of hurt, I had 3 or 4 years from 1963, when we used to roll teams over at home, won two promotions, and it was often a matter of not whether we would win but by how many. There’s been a few good times after those halcyon days, but a lot more pain!

We do have an issue with momentum. Luton lost once in 18, unbeaten in 8. Notts County unbeaten in 10, Lincoln unbeaten in 5 winning 4 of them, Colchester 1 defeat in 11. Our best is 4 games unbeaten at the end of September.

Would like to know what he considered a good opening today. We didn't create a chance all game so unless he is referring to moves that broke down due to poor crosses then he's just deflecting away from a bad day in the office.

Thing is, Carlisle is a difficult place to go to too and they have now won 3 in a row, 2 league games and then Gillingham in the FA Cup.
They must really fancy their chances against us on Saturday.
Hate to say it, but this is the most I have been down all season. Always been upbeat, despite some poor results here and there, but this time I really thought we had turned a corner and I was expecting at least a draw today. Thought we had at last started to build momentum.
Very glum in the Otis household this evening.

Why anyone thinks that Willis can be deployed at RB is beyond me. His performances there, particularly Orient away under SP, make my skin crawl with the anticipation of impending doom. As for our club's predilection for putting a striker on the wing, our club seems to have no equal.
Me too, started first season div 1. Was young, starry eyed and had been impressed with the celebration of promotion in Broadgate. Had my scarf and rattle and was looking forward to success. First game for me that season was against Tottenham .. But it has been mainly a struggle with the occasional blip since then.
Nowadays I keep making the mistake of thinking that we have turned the corner.... we always seem to come down with a bump. Still think that we will be in the play offs though....;-)

There is of course some truth in that, but Andreu could play wide and we did deploy him there at least once, Jones was a wide player and Vincenti has been playing wide right too.
That's three players right there.
Past playing DKE today, Robins didn't have many options left.

When you think about it, it's a miracle we are as high as we are. And with a striker who hasn't scored a single goal all season!
It looks like we have lost touch with Luton and Notts Co, so for automatic promotion we'll be battling it out with 7-9 other clubs.

Think about it, who out of that starting line up do you look at and think 'they could score a goal?'
For me it's McNulty and that's absolutely as far as it goes. That's not good at all.
We need to replace the 3 or 4 other attacking players around him.

Only trouble with that is, for me, this a shit or bust season, a one chance scenario.
It's a massive factor that this is Coventry City and we have been in perpetual decline for nearly 20 years. Nothing but doom and gloom for every season more or less.
We don't make the playoffs this season the drop in ST's and interest next season is going to be at an all time low.
I don't want to see him sacked, but if we start slipping, but are still in with a chance of a playoff place at least, then I think we would HAVE to replace him.
For me this is a one season deal. I know stats show that most clubs don't come straight back up, but have any of those clubs had season after season after season of demise and no top 6 finishes?
Nearly 20 years of decline, so for me it is shit or bust. We HAVE to have a successful season.
