Burge-6
He didn’t really have a save to make but came off his line and fucked an interception up. Kicking woeful-how many times did all the players move over to the left and he kick it to the right!
McDonald/Davies-6
Both ok but their distribution was awful-every ball a hopeful punt up field-more often than not straight into the stand or miles away from a city player.
Stokes 6 Didn’t do anything wrong or right-different player from last match.
Wilis-6 Didn’t so much wrong-contained his man.
Grimmer-5 Not a right winger.
Bayliss-8 MOM by a country mile-drove is forward-1 sublime pass to McNulty (offside) and did all the right things at the right time. Pity most of the game passed him by in the air.
Doyle-6. Typical performance -broke play up-passed sideways. Again most of the game in the air-not helpful winning headers in midfield when you 5 ft 5....
Shipley-5 Anonymous.
Biamou-5 Now he didn’t win any headers today and he didn’t hold the ball up well either but you have to feel sorry for the guy when the balls to him when just awful.
McNulty-5 Same as Biamou.

Subs-too little too late.

Robins 5-Picked the wrong side-if he was worried about their aerial threat then stick to a back 3. But the Grimmer experiment at right wing isn’t working and we need some wingers who can actually cross a ball.

Grimmer ain’t a winger and nor is Ponticelli!

Also the games at Vale, Stanley and Morecambe followed the same predictable pattern. We copied their hoof style and lost out.

When we beat Lincoln we found some composure and beat them by movement and passing.

Robins needs to find a formula to beat the hoof/dirty/physical sides.

Bayliss is a start.

Just how bad was the pitch and how much of a factor would you say?

Saw a few comments about the ball not travelling properly.

It was the same as the Ricoh Otis-bloody awful!

But we managed to win there without resorting to a style of play that clearly doesn’t suit our players.

Shouldn’t be an excuse

Nope. Just wondered if it affected the way and style we played, trying to keep the ball off the deck.

Burge: 6 - Distribution is dire.

Willis: 5 - Just isn't a right back. Poor mistake when he gave that meaningless corner away not long before their goal.

Rod/Davies: 6 - As noted above, their distribution is poor.

Stokes: 4 - He's been very poor for most of the season. A shambolic effort in the second half which was put over the bar. Not sure who is worse, Haynes or Stokes.

Doyle: 6 - Typical Doyle game, but going forward late on he was poor. Tries the same dinked ball over the top which has yet to come off.

Bayliss: 7 - Our best player again. Looks very decent this lad, similar sort of style to Madderz/Stevenson in terms of coming forward but a bit more physical.

Shipley: 5 - Pretty naff performance from him today. Set pieces were poor and is just too slow to play out wide.

Biamou: 4 - A poor performance from Max, but we were far worse without him on the pitch.

McNulty: 5 - Back to the McNulty we've seen most of the season, feeding off scraps and his trademark shot over the bar.

Subs
Duck: 4 - One meaningful shot.
Ponti: 2 - Those two crosses were absolutely pathetic.
Beavon: 3 - Put himself about.

Burge 3 distribution is getting worse keep the fucking ball on the island it’s not difficult to do

Willis 3 out of position it showed
Stokes 4 gone backwards but better than Haynes
Davies 6 heads it well and kicks it well rarely to our team but he gets it away
Macdonald 5 looks like he is carrying a bit of timber
Doyle 5 slowed the play to often
Bayliss 7 moves so well with he ball the only ball carrier we have
Grimmer 4 our of position terrible crossing
Shipley 3 poor today looked one game too many
Mcnulty 6 has started making good runs looks twice the player of a month ago
Biamou 1 clueless won nothing in the air crap on the floor spends more time on the floor asking for free kicks I hope he only got a one year deal.

Subs

Beavon 3 no good when you need a goal all the pace has gone

Pontecelli 2 poor crosses but he should be on the end of crosses

Nazon 4 at least he had a shot

Mr 6,

It was always going to be a very tight game, nothing in it at all, hardly any shots by both teams, defences pretty much on top. I don’t think they deserved to win, Draw would have been fair result. Both teams strikers never got a sniff.

Would have liked us to be a bit more positive, would have liked to see Beavon start on the right.

I don’t think we were abysmal, did anyone just get the feeling that they gave everything on Friday and were empty. Flat footed, poor high balls and slow movement. My misses fell asleep during the game (I nearly did as well).

Bayliss was great - head up and running at the defenders. Reminds me of James Bailey a bit, quite combative and positive.

Think we are going to struggle at Carlisle... and dare I say it on here but I think we will miss Vincenti this time.

Everyone appears to be raving at the performances of Tom Bayliss and I couldn’t agree more, I wonder if we would benefit from pushing to him a No 10 role (like with Maddison), TB’s ability to carry the ball at pace, change direction, have a skill in the locker and pass the ball could be really beneficial to unlocking defences for McNulty to get in behind..

Anyone else thinking like this?

Didn’t matter to us as all we do is lump it forward
We didn't against Cheltenham and Wycombe though did we and that's my point, did we start to hit it long because of the condition of the pitch.

Prob not so much no but we were very poor yesterday , strange tactics and players playing out of positions ,
