Burge or O'Brien, who's in goal today? (3 Viewers)

What about the two saves against Crouch that made sure we won the game?
To be fair he made a couple of decent stops, but he never looked confident coming to get the ball

My old Nan would do a better job. Get Willis to take the kicks job done.
Shane she croaked it in 1982!

He's played less, cost us equal amount of points, looked awful, and only looked good when the defence was rock solid and didn't allow a shot against us. He played 4 games, 2 of which the opposing team didn't have a shot and the next 2 games, the opposing teams have 3 shots and we concede 3 goals with 2 major errors occurring. I think this debate is redundant as neither are good enough and both need replacing.

From what I've seen of him I'd dispute he's awful, he made 2 huge errors for sure. Burge has benefited from a run of games where he too faced minimal shots of any some games tho played in a settled side. Tho all 4 errors two of which are identical are there own errors not the side.

Anyway nothing to debate really on this thread.

MR has made his decision and deemed Burge confident to play. In Robins we trust.

O’Brien commanded his area well, and could catch the ball, The Yeovil mistake was horrendous as was the Newport goal when he dived over it.

Burge has been making mistakes all the time. He can’t catch, is terrible in the box, palmed it into the net against forest green, and made that howler last week.

RCC was a fair better keeper as was Alsopp when he was here. The sooner we’re rid of Burge the better, I stil haven’t got over that Peterborough freekick a few years back when he was beat by a floated free kick into the centre of the goal

Willis blocked them
I was sat right by the goal.. there was about 4 attempts on goal, a right old scramble, Willis blocked one of them but two of them were blocked by good saves by Burge & then there was just a mass of feet swinging.

you dislike burge, thats fair enough, but unfair too try and twist it & say he didnt make those saves today. In fact he made a good few saves today... maybe why he got man of the match.. just a thought

Well that's what I thought. I thought Burge made multiple saves there, but was then confused when in the match thread some were saying they were blocks by defenders.

I posted a tweet of it, burge was diving about nowhere near it. The defenders blocked it, Willis with the best one.

How can you sit right by the goal? Can’t the ball hit you in the face?

You do realise only 2 people have to say a player is man of the match in the whole ground and that could win the award.

He made one block from s header and the whole malaise was caused by his inability to put the original cross over the bar instead of flapping around the goal

He caught one cross in the whole game.

Need to see the highlights. Was sure Burge saved at least one, if not two.

Be interesting to see. It was so manic there in that 6 yard box.

and made a full stretch one handed save onto the bar too... or maybe you missed that one as well ( or forgot to include that in your post match report on him )

as i say, you can put whatever slant you like on it.. only takes one person to do that too

Burge didn't get near any, but made the good save just after when they came back at us.

Grimmer and Willis blocked it

Tbf how many would have got those too many bodies in the way maybe he should have caught it with his teeth then he may get a little credit.
Just another player to blame all our woes on.
Well done today only let one in to RCC 3 lol

same here, although that not the one I was on about.. I was talking about the scramble where he blocked one of them with his chest & then it ended up with him catching the ball.

The scramble caused by his woeful inability to deal with a routine cross?

I don’t think I’ve been as critical as you were with Chris Stokes. Stokes was excellent today.
Really? I thought Stokes defensively was ok but going forward and a couple of crosses were terrible. I guess the main objective is for him to defend though. As for Burge-just Woeful, time and time again got out of jail for his constant flapping.

Don't think I have ever criticised Stokes sure you have the right person.
I do stick up for some more then others due to the constant abuse they get unjustly in my opinion, if they play well they deserve a shout you for some reason cannot see through the hate you have for players not just in this squad but throughout your posting history.
Again it is about opinions can't comment on today' game as I am back down in Devon at my best friend and Fellow City supporters funeral, so couldn't make the game.
RIP Digger.

I'm guessing O'Brien will be in goal against MK Dons next Saturday?

Just watched Sky’s highlights. I don’t go anymore as I have lost interest in football generally. However, as a former goalkeeper I have followed this debate all season. Now the last time I saw Burge live was against Worcester and the only game I have been to this season is Newport. I seen them both at their worst!

Yesterday, our first goal came from a flick on from a Burge goal kick. Swindon’s goal should have been cut out by the defender at the near post. Due to the height of the cross, Burge needed to hold his position. He also made a couple of decent saves.

I personally don’t know what more we can expect from a goalkeeper at this level. Joe Murphy was generally well liked however, he rarely caught the ball, was poor on crosses and spent most of his time blaming everyone else, Goalkeepers needs confidence in order to play well therefore, whichever plays it would benefit the team more to pick out positives in their performance.

Not his best game yesterday, reminiscent of last seasons Lee Burge. He made a few positive contributions but largely responsible for his own issues.

Positives, great save in the first half to tip a stinging shot into the bar, kicked the back straight for Biamou to create his own masterpiece. Some point blank shots saved in the second half I recall, tho not the mad scramble.

Negatives, confidence is clearly knocked a fraction but hopefully yesterday's win will help lift that back up with the Bigirimana trophy proudly sat on the side this morning.

Negatives, Kicking was awful, distribution slow which eventually suited us in the second half to relive pressure.

Seen his mum and dad in the main stand in the first half when he came out to wave at them, flapping at a cross. A shakey first half for sure.

As for the goal mouth scramble looked like he wasn't responsible for the saves it was team mates as he went through the motions of blocking.

Let's hope the win lifts his confidence back up.

There were two scrambles though. He definitely made saves during one of them.

Yeah I do recall one scramble in the second half when he saves with his chest or face... was a good block. I stood and applauded that! Might have been a save too. Them reaction moments he does well at.

Hopefully the extended highlights will show this.

Second scramble with the footage shown already he was just doing the motions.

Ironic that some are applauding his efforts there, yet when O'Brien did the same he was regarded as all over the place yet blocking shots the same.

Funny how we all see the game as to who we like the more.

Agreed. When i said LOB madr smszing block vs stoke i was told it was because he messed up the cross in first place. This time people wanna praise a block burge did and not mention him fialing to deal with cross lol

No need for tsking sides. Both keepers hsve positives and negstives. I think if burge gets confidence back he may be ok for another month or so.

Will be interested to srr hoe LOB does vs mk dons saturday
