I still feel bitter about his departure. He was a free agent. He could have chosen any club and made a lot of money. But he decided to stay. But as soin as he signed a new contract Richardson wanted to sell him. And that started all the shit off.

He was my favourite player as a kid and had a couole of cov shirts with Dublin on the back. Was devastated when he left.
Met him in Leamington last year and was bricking approaching him in case he was a twat (never meet your heros and all that) but finally my mate did on my behalf and said I was a huge fan. Couldn't have been nicer and said he really appreciated the support and he's always happy to speak to fans and when I asked for a photo said "yehh of course mate no problem!".

exactly. Water under the bridge now and he was a great player for us but let's not pretend that the acrimony surrounding his departure never happened.
edit - sorry I've read your post wrong. I think Dublin was partly responsible for it going tits up at the end but whatever happened, I forgive him. He was great for us when he was here.

They did-he went to Blackburn to sign who were paying the money at the time but got a call from deadly Doug at the last minute as he was about to sign for Blackburn. Signing for Villa meant he didn’t have to uproot his family in Stratford.

Why did he make a bad choice? His family were settled in the Midlands. He didn't want to move away. It was a big part of him wanting to stay with us. Richardson just wanted to sell to the highest bidder.
Should Dublin have moved his family from where they were settled just because he wanted to go to a local rival so he didn't have to uproot his family? He could have gone to a bigger club.

Dublin had just signed a new contract with us when he didn't need to. We wouldn't have got any compo at all. Richardson just wanted him to sign a new contract so he could sell him and get his hands on the money.
If Dublin wanted to leave he wouldn't have signed a new contract. If Richardson hadn't forced him out he wouldn't have left.
So who do you believe on what happened? Dublin who always gave his all for our club or Richardson who destroyed our club? The same Richardson who said a few years ago that he had bought the land that the Ricoh stands on even though we all know that the land cost was part of what was paid for elsewhere.

Depends what you are in the game for if it’s for ease of life and money then a good choice but if it’s to win things then he could have made better choices

As you well know though, family is so, so important. Can't just assume because someone is a high paid professional footballer that family suddenly becomes less of an issue.
Fair play to Dion if his family have very much come into his way of thinking.

Even so, his contribution to the club far outweighs any of the negativity. I'm in my early 30s and to me he was one of my first proper footballing heroes.

Who is they? Villa & Dublin's agent maybe, but he was still our player and badly advised not to play. It is water under the bridge now, though & I have long since forgiven him for not playing in the Luton match, or later on tapping up Boateng on Villa's behalf. He has a rightful place as one of our real legends.

I must have taken the move badly as I was at a corporate thing at villa West Ham for work when he was there and he was injured and doing the walking round the tables we were on the best table I think it was the Doug Ellis table in the chairman’s suite so quite fancy so they said Dion will come and have his picture with you all and spend some time with you I refused and walked off my only defence is that who are villa playing the following game at villa park yes us and it would have been in the programme and I would have got fearful stick for being in there.
anyway got so pissed missed most of the game threw up in villa park while trying to clear my head lost my tankard that was a gift and was told that company wouldn’t be keen on me going on corporate days again threw up on the train on the way home then was so ill that I couldn’t meet my girlfriend the next morning as promised she was so pissed off I had to buy our first house for her to talk to me again.

We only got him as he had a very bad injury at Man U. He knew that it can happen. And he was already signed up by Villa. He always put his head where it hurts. He never shirked a tackle. And he was forced out of our club after everything that he did for us.
If it was a player that just went through the motions and left because he wanted to I would agree. But he was the total opposite. We were lucky to have him and I am sure he would have had a great career at Utd if he didn't get injured.

Wasn’t he on £20,000 a week at Cov and Villa offered him double can’t blame him looking back,It’s just a job to a footballer like the rest of us!!
