Sorry, can't attach link as this is from my phone, but sky sports reporting this morning that Michael Appleton is looking to strengthen his squad with new signings ?

How is that possible ?

Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton is worried his depleted squad will not be able to fulfil their fixtures unless they bring in more players.
Former Manchester United midfielder Appleton will see his side drop to a place above the relegation zone when they go into administration and are deducted 10 points on Friday.

do they not have a youth team ?

Lets face it, if SISU invested in the squad at all, Christie, Thomas, Clark, Bigi etc wouldnt have been anywhere near the 1st team this season

We have had to do it

Its that mentality that has got them into this mes in the first place! "We have no money. Lets spend some money"

I think some of us would have been more comfortable with SISU tightening the purse strings had they just been honest about it. The anger comes from the lies.

A simple "We're in trouble financially so if City are to survive we have to be careful who we sign and fast track the youth"

If Pompy carry on this way, they'll be extinct sooner rather than later.

'We are not in a position to rest anybody at the moment, even though I would like to.'

:claping hands:

We're in a position where we have to play a not fit right back at left back, as our only left back is injured and the centre half that was covering got injured.

Welcome to our world Michael, you keep spending

Gotta love the denial

"Michael, shall you let the boys know we are in administration, or shall I"

"why dont we wait, until we can tell them about the new signings as well, you know, bad news, followed by good news"

Unbelievable.

You know what - I bet they do get some frigging players in too.

How anyone can feel sorry for that club or its fans is a mystery to me.

I feel for the fans. Except those ones that came to HR that awful day.

They have no contol over the over frivolous spending.

Short term profit at the expense of long term gain (or existence for that matter!)

That frivolous spending got them a trophy and European football-whereas it's got us bugger all. If they do go, at least they have European nights and days at Wembley as a crumb of comfort.

do you think they are run by the last government they seen to have the same ideas of spending money they don't have:D

With the greatest of respect, I'd rather have no trophy and still be able to wear Sky Blue in whatever league we're in than have the memory of a trophy but be forced to follow another club who I couldn't have nearly as much passion for.
They have those memories and that's just great but if they carry on like they are, that's all they'll ever be.

If the City went bust it'd be England for me and nobody else-your point's clear enough though. Problem is, there are undoubtedly lots of teams teetering over the same situation, and the house will fall in soon you feel. SISU's actions remind me quite a bit of the current Tory government-making necessary cuts but going so far with them that they cause more harm than good. The way Pompey are run is more comparable with our transatlantic friends...

Kind of beggars belief that a club in their situation is still spending money they cannot afford. No sympathy for the manager at all especially when you look at our own financial predicament and how we have had to deal with it. As for players being tired  despite their quality at Pompey I would rather have the attitude of our young lads who just get on with it 100% each week in a smaller squad

Great analogy from one of our better posters!

Any business can spent money, it's as much the fault of the lenders for letting them.

The Financial Fair Play Rules should in theory stop this.

To continue the analogy, Pompey are basically Greece, minus the riots...

They should surely be deducted more then 10 points , considering they were in admin only 2 years ago ????

Not sure if it was on here or I read it somewhere else but someone said it could be up to 25 points. Would be nice :p

Even taking away some Sky Blue bias they deserve everything they get. They have still got players on big money (Kitson, Lawrance, Ben Haim, Mullins etc who must be on £10-15k per week). They owe £2m to HMRC, take a couple of those players off the wage bill and theyd have had the money to pay that. At least we have tried to cut our cloth accordingly.

Unless you have a wealthy owner you cannot afford to pay those types of wages in this league and hopefully the financial fair play rules will stop it from happening. Its about time there was a bit of realism brought into football (and in particular players and agents !)

The Forest situation is also very interesting and theyre future will be pretty much decided today. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/N...ham-Forest-s/story-15165946-detail/story.html

You'd seriously follow another club? I'd rather sell my children.

They've been forwarded their parachute payment early ,and last night i heard the prem are considering forwarding next seasons early as well ,they have probably mortgaged these already like West Ham have their entire 4 yrs worth ,1.how can this be fair .2.surely the prem should hold these back to make sure creditors recieve their share.

think we should mass email the League /FA ,that if they're serious about fair play rules then they should consider seriously what they do now ,with regards to what other clubs have done in terms of provenance, going to be massive when we play them here.

if this happens some questions need to be asked. that money is supposed to be going to pay off the CVA from the last time they went in to admin, be bang out of order if they're given it early and allowed to use it on other things. what about all the local business that are waiting for their 20p in the £ payment.

a question for osb regarding admin, as I understand it as this is the second time they are going in to admin they have to apply to the courts to have admin approved and I'm led to believe that part of that process is proving that they aren't trading insolvently. could they not have a bit of trouble there? their business they submitted to the league apparently shows them making hefty losses which would be covered by the owner (who's now awaiting extradition hearing and has all his assets frozen), with noone else covering that shortfall how can they have the money to cover costs?

I would have thought it would be harder to prove to the courts the 2nd time around - judge likely to be more sceptical of any figures particularly as the previous ones didnt ring true. Without looking at the figures it is hard to say but they have appointed insolvency experts to deal with their affairs pre admin so I would expect them to have a plan. There might be new owners waiting to take over who will give the necessary undertakings. Over the three years after relegation they are due £48m parachute payments i think it is, so that gives them something to plan with I guess. They are going to have to do what we have - sell players and slash wages - to survive i would think. It doesnt look good for then though does it

I think this is a misconception. I can't see any rules that dictate this as all. Clubs who were docked extra points were done so for other breaches - Not appointing a CVA before entering administration, not coming out of administration before 12 months. Also they were deducted points under Premier League Administration rulings last time which carried a 9 point penalty.

Yer, looks like thats their thinking as well

'We have a lot of players out injured,' said Appleton. 'We had two more injuries tonight and we have about 15 players in our squad. We need to see if we can bring a few players in on loan.

15 players, we would love 15 players

We have 2 gks, 4 defenders, 4 midfielders and 2 strikers and one lump which is Fredide Eastwood

Thats make 13,

do one Pompy !

Appleton can say what he likes it isnt in his hands - if the plan comes out as slashing wages and selling players because that is what the creditors (HMRC in particular) want then they will have to do it no matter how much the manager bleats. I think Appleton was very ill advised to make such a commemnt considering the position Pompey are in. I too have little sympathy for them

Just as an aside - it seems that the SFA do not have the concept of football debt taking pecedence over other debts in their rules. I really cannot see the justification for it in the FA rules
