Better without clingan?

Although i rate clingan i think the formation we play doesnt suit him and we play much better without him , i feel he sits far to deep and invites pressure and creates to big a gap between midfield and attack and we also seem more mobile without him.
id be happy to send him out on loan if i thought we could get a couple of players in like vellios from everton (young 6ft 3 striker) and olofinjana from hull that would give us a great chance of staying up

I'm quite open in my critiscm of Clingan. I think last night showed that he is one of the main reasons that we struggle to play as a team. He can't link up with other midfielders like Deegs and Norwood did last night. The only team-mates he can link up with is the defenders because he's always looking backwards.

Stupid idea...with a threadbare squad we are going to send our captain and an experienced player out on loan????? Thorn will put him back in the 16, probably starting 11 as soon as semi-fit.
How you can despise one of our players beats me.
Try supporting all our players rather than looking for scapegoats.

The problem when Clingan is in the team is he is the easy option pass for the defence and midfield and therefore everything goes through him (like it did when Gary Mac was here) problem is it makes us very predictable and easy to defend against as the focus of any attacks start with Clingan. Without him in the side the players have to think for themselves and take some responsibility - though Norwood showed a good range of passing last night and overall we looked better without Clingan than we do with. Keogh is also a far better captain, leading by example.

I despise him. I can't think of any reason why he should be on the field, never mind being captain. He's been awful this season... Lead by example? KEOGH FOR CAPTAIN!

Despise is an unfortunate and inappropriate term. Fair to say he has been poor and the balance looked better with him out the team. Still will play a part during the remainder of the season but has to improve.

Thomas wasn't playing either, are we better without him?
We are down the bottom because our defence are prone to cock ups, our forwards miss too many chances. Midfield, though not ideal, are fine when we drop the diamond and play 442 with some genuine width and movement. All of our midfielder can do the job in a 442.

If Chris chooses to despise him that's his opinion. It is appropriate if he really doesn't like the bloke. I prefer clingan to clingham, but not by much.

Yeah but an opinion needs to be justified with some reasoning otherwise it is worthless...You are still entitled to hold it but you make yourself look foolish and prejudiced if you cannot substantiate it.

Nevertheless if that's how he feels then it is wholly appropriate.

Ok but let us hope AT does not let irrational impulses influence his team sheet.
I don't care who plays as long as we win...but neither will I let personal likes and dislikes of players turn into unfair scapegoating of some...Clingan, Bell, Baker, or overpraise of others...Keogh, Thomas...

As long as Clingan is being paid by this football club, it makes no sense to just write off thousands a week by letting him go to waste. It isn't in his interests either to be putting in apathetic performances if he's trying to earn a better deal somewhere else. If it takes a rocket up his backside so be it-but he needs to realise he isn't doing himself any favours for next season with half-arsed displays.

I don't rate clingan as highly as others on here. I used to think he was a very good player, he used to play some excellent cross field passes, passes that would put our players in good positions, occasionally having some shots, I dont even want to talk about his 'specialist' set pieces. But this season he seems to pass the ball either sideways or backwards, and i always seem to wait for him to make a mistake to put us on the back foot. Haven't seen Norwood, apart from the short stint against Ipswich but sounded good last night. What kind of player is he? they siad he bossed the midfield?

I don't think it is unfair to say that we are a better attacking team without Clingan in the side... We have played our better football this season with Clingan being out of the team imo.

With him in the team the younger players (Bigi, Thomas and Norwood) "seem" to give the ball to him because he is the experienced pro / captain. Everything goes via Clingan and it REALLY slows down an already slow team.

Last night, Deegan and Norwood played better as a central pairing than anyone has alongside Clingan this season. And the reason for that is that their first thought was to put the ball forwards (hit Platt) or into attacking positions (Baker / Sheffers out wide).

I'm a fan of Clingan, but we look a better attacking threat without him in the team because the ball is released from midfield a lot earlier.

I dont think we will miss him next season, but while he is here we need to use him. Will be interesting to see how AT rotates the 4 central midfielders when they are all fit. Personally I would like to see Thomas and Norwood playing together. I hope Clingan has his place on merit not just because he is captain.

Si80, your opinion is well put and I respect it.
I have no time for people calling certain players shite or saying they despise them..these opinions are not worth respect.
They call themselves fans and spend time berating and abusing their own team...followers not supporters.

I thought we had a lot of trouble holding on to the ball in midfield till near the end then Leeds were having trouble. Norwood made some nice passes wide, but not quite got got that defence penetrating pass going yet.
When Thomas gets back I'd think Norwood operating further forward could combine very well with Nimley. How long is Thomas likey to be out now?

As I have said before I support the team. I am allowed to think that certain members of said team are weak links or have a negative affect on the team through their own lack of ability. I do not try to force my opinions onto anyone else, but express them to open debate. I do not berate people for their opinions of team members and neither should anyone else. The fact that everyone is different is what makes the world go round.

All the best from a supporter and follower of the mighty sky blues.

La Lucha, glad we are in agreement then. All 4 centre midfielders will have a part to play so we will need to support them all.

I'll be there shouting in support when CCFC play, I'll also be shouting obscenities at any CCFC player who hands possesion to the opposition unneccesarily as did Baker last night.

I will also continue to alter my opinion of players based on all the performances that I have seen from them. At present my opinion is Clingham is cack and Baker is not much better.

OK, let us explore this together...
How will "shouting obscenities" at players who make mistakes help the sky blue cause? Is this not likely to be counterproductive, making the player more anxious?
Might you not try to control the frustration we all feel when this happens and instead shout something like.."No..come on..we're better than this..come on lads..." and applaud and shout encouragement at every subsequent touch that player makes?
Just a thought...that's SUPPORT.

Nope it's football not politics.

I have to question if the diamond suits Clingan's style of play - or does he feel the responsibility of being captain too much ?

We play much better without Clingan. When he does play he looks like our weakest player and not that interested. He has been responsible for some woeful passes that have given goals away. Quite happy for him to go, Connor Thomas much better. Not the player he was.

Get Sammy Clingan playing as we know he can and link him up with Norwood and an inform Deegan and that is a useful midfield. I think Sammy is being asked to play a certain style which doesn't suit him to be fair.
