Ok so will we sign any out of contract players?

Baker is hanging around the club.

Would love to see Kyle Bennett at the club. Just realised from Pompey.

We need to cancel Reid's contract.

Interesting that Robins was after another loan player yesterday but it didn't come off.

Suggests there's a position he would like to be filled or add extra capacity to the squad. Was a winger.

Thing is were doing no harm having Bakes train with us, even if he sees out the season here and doesn't earn a contract I can guarantee he's a good player to have around the training ground, sometimes it's just as important to have players for what they can bring off the pitch aswell as on it.

Yeah, but I am guessing he wants to play. It's how long we are prepared to have him hanging around if that's what the club wants too.

If we are really interested and Robins has him earmarked for a role in the team, can we afford to have him spend another month or two getting back to full health?

The Baker deal is dependant on a number of variables. E.g. Him being able to get 100%, Kyel Reid being offloaded and him actually having a active role in the squad.

But, at the minute I'm struggling to see the value of him signing as 3 of those options are all looking pretty unlikely - so I'd rather stick with what we've got.

Good God. You called him 'Bakes'.

Was gonna type the same thing.

Listen, the guy seems like a decent bloke (from a club perspective) and is great with his fan interactions etc. but he was mediocre last time he was here. He's now older and seemingly more susceptible to injury. I don't think I'd have him on the payroll as a player.

As a coach on the other hand...

Has he got coaching badges? If not No to that too.

Kyle Bennett signed for Bristol Rovers

Anyway, not too keen on signing free agents in February. I know there’s exceptions like Dennis Wise but more often than not you end up with the Darius Henderson’s, Peter Ramage’s, Stephen Hunt’s and Herman Heridason’s of this world

Give him a contract where he only gets paid if he plays.
Just for this season.

To be fair he has got his money from India and he seems he genuinely likes the club so he would probably willing to do pay as you play

Considering he has a wife and kids, I find it hard to believe he'd accept a contract based on bonuses and incentives even with the money he made during his time in India. Given his age my guess is his contract is likely to be inclusive of both a playing and coaching role, so his wage will subsequently be structured around this - and will have to include a flat wage, whatever it might be.

Agree. But it needs to heavily weighted towards playing.

Agreed, but if he's not 100% fit we don't offer him anything. Time and again we've pissed away money on the over 34 club and it's not payed off.
Yep. It's something about 34. The 36 club is fine as has been proven with Michael Doyle, but all the 34's have pretty much been rubbish.

Might be worth having a glance back to see just how bad Michael Doyle was two years ago.

By that logic we should bring Darius Henderson back then ;)
