Robins said he had no idea on Grimmer's, but thought that maybe Stokes was just a tweak.
He wasn't at all certain though.

I like Stokes but he's injured too often. Not quite a Reda but for the money we pay him we only get a proportion of the season out of him once all his absence are taken into account. We might be better getting a player 80% as good, saving some money but expecting a full season out of that player.

It’s not ridiculous we haven’t been anymore or less unlucky than anyone else.
Exeter have their first choice best 6 defenders out injured currently.
Ffs 3/4/5 injuries is the norm at any moment in time, in league for most clubs.

I wonder whether Stokes’s original injury (2 years ago now?) was mishandled. I remember sitting in the seat in front of him, and Haynes who had come for the match during his loan spell. Talking about his injury and when he would be back playing, and Stokes said he had been told 6 weeks or so - it was 12 months and he has never been the player at left back that he was. Still seems good at centre back though.

I think where we feel unlucky is not the quantity of injuries but the type of injuries and the personnel involved. Andreu was supposed to be the marquee player this season, we'll never know. Jones when his season ended was top goalscorer most assists and arguably the best player. Davies in recent weeks has been a tower of strength, looked settled and composed again becoming an important cog in our upturn in form. Stokes tbh I'm less bothered about, as his distribution in recent weeks appalling and he looks a little unfit. Grimmer mixed performances but I like him.

I respect that. I’m just pointing out injuries are part and parcel of football. Get on with it.
Like I said. Exeter have had their first choice 6 defenders out injured.
We have 2 possibly 3 defenders out injured.

Agree with Stokes was probably time for him to have a rest. And Grimmer probably too. After Doyle he has played the most games for us. 2/3 weeks out could do them both a world of good.

Isn't this his first injury of the season and is likely just a tweak? He got dropped for a few games over Haynes which coincided with the clean sheets stopping and us not scoring many more. He must of started 25 games already.

In Grimmer's absence, I think we need to play DionKE at right back purely for his attacking element - and stick Vicenti in front of him, as Barrett doesn't yet look up to it. If Stokes is out, Haynes obviously - but I was thinking about this today and wondered if Shipley could do a job at left back and (only if fit enough) try Reid on the left wing. I think it is really important that we offer some threat from out wide, and if the 2 new U23s aren't going to cut the mustard then we need to consider all options. As I've said on another thread Bayliss has to be played centre mid - if he persists with Kelly/Doyle it may be even more vital to use Reid on the left, as an out and out winger. Willis is not a full back and offers little in terms of attacking the flanks and (recently) Stokes first touch has been poor, limiting our attacking play on the left. Full backs make a huge difference to a team's performance as they see more of the ball than most of the other positions.

Shipley played left back when he came on against Shrewsbury, arguably our best player on the pitch that night.

Just wrote on another thread that this inadvertantly might force us into a system that might suit us playing both Kelly & Doyle in the middle as Robins so obviously prefers. If he plays 3 at the back (Willis/ Hyam/ McDonald) with wing backs (DKE/ Shipley or Haynes), he could play Doyle & Kelly as at the moment, but then have Bayliss in a central advanced position 'in the hole' as the pros like to say, behind McNulty & Biamou or JCH. I think that could work & he would still have the personnel to revert to 442 as & when needed.

Praying that these 2 aren’t out for too long. Grimmer and Stokes have been a huge part of that solid defensive foundation this season and replacing them with DKE and Haynes will expose us massively. Pair of liabilities.

I think that's pretty harsh on Dion KE. Was one of the few positives last year.

Although these injuries leave us a bit threadbare, Stokes has been average for a bit ,so if Haynes/Shiplet can cover, it should be no big loss, and may be an improvement in attacking options).I really like Dion KE- yes he is on the short side, but we could compensate at set pieces by including Vincenti. My bigger concern is wasting Bayliss out wide, when his running past players through the middle creates far more havoc for the opposition and opportunities for us.

Since it seems that MR wants both Doyle and Kelly on the pitch, would it be worth considering either Doyle or Kelly in the back 4 (both are defensive minded) with the other one partnered with Bayliss as the midfield 2?

We have cover for Grimmer and Stokes so could be worse. As I've said elsewhere, I don't think Stokes has been particularly very good this season anyway, but Grimmer is a big loss. And along with Davis it has ended up as a pretty bad weekend all round.
