Burge - 7 - Hard to rate him higher as he didn't have a save to make all night but his decision making for what to come and claim was excellent tonight
Grimmer - 6.5 - Harsh to rate a defender who has just kept a clean sheet away at Wycombe less than 7 but his passing was very poor, back to his first 15 games of the season.
Hyam - 8 - Was concerned at his height and physique vs Akinfenwa but coped very well.
McDonald - 8.5 MoM: Thought he controlled the back line really well tonight and as a unit forced Akinfenwa to play in ineffective areas
Haynes - 7 - Got forward well in the first half and was a good outlet, faded a little in the 2nd but not looked out of place in the last 2 games.
Kelly - 7.5 - Thought he absolutely carried Doyle tonight and not only won more than his fair share of knockdowns but got forward when we managed to keep possession too.
Doyle - 5 - Dunno if he was injured, tired or avoiding a yellow but he was very subdued all game.
Bayliss - 5 - Absolutely terrible performance. Passing was bad, dribbles were bad, gave fouls away. And then went and won the penalty!
Shipley - 5 - Below par and lacking his usual energy. Not an easy game for him as he rarely had a square pass inside due to our shape. Subbed at just the right time.
McNulty - 6 - Took his penalty well but was feeding off absolute scraps all night.
Clarke-Harris - 6 - Great run in the first half to get to a long ball and set up McNulty. Ball was just whacked in his general direction for most of the night though.

Reid 6.5 - Exactly what you need when trying to run the clock down
Biamou 6.5 - Not on for long but brought energy and won a couple of balls he had no right to, keeping the pressure on at a vital time.

Robins 8 - Hard to tell if that was a tactical masterclass or just reverting back to the shape from earlier in the season. The next couple of home games should reveal all. Either way, clawed ourselves back into playoff contention and confidence should be sky high now.

I’d agree, I thought grimmer looked our weakest defender but all played well. I also thought Haynes looked really good but I may just be comparing him to some (most) of his previous performances. I can’t see stokes getting back in the side anytime soon...barring injuries of course!
Can’t agree with your appraisal of Doyle though. I thought he looked alright and was on a par with kelly.

Just wasn't his usual captain's performance for me tonight and without his energy and leadership he's a very average footballer. Thought he needed to get a grip of the defence in the first half and just calm them down when we were hammering it a long.

All that's important Is 3 points. For the cunts who talk bullshit about our away form. That's 4 points from Mansfield and Wycombe away.

Well done you believers.

Mark robins sky blue army!.

Poor game. Typical of the nature of this league. All that's important Is 3 points.

Didn't expect 4 points From manfiekd and wucombe away.

So glad Wycombe stick with his beliefs of Doyle and Kelly in the middle. As I said he should do beforehand.

Burge: 8 - Solid.

Grimmer: 7 - Decent. Worked hard all night.
Hyam: 8.5 - Brilliant. Totally unfazed by Akinfenwa. Should not be dropped for Willis.
Rod: 8.5 - Again very good. Akinfenwa contained all game.
Haynes: 7.5 - Did well again tonight. Far greater threat going forward than Stokes.

Doyle passion: - 9
Doyle overall: 6.5 - Passing is woeful at times. He looks so much better doing the simple stuff.

Kelly: 6.5 - Did okay. Similar to Doyle.

Bayliss: 6.5 - Outstanding run for the goal. For large parts of the game he was pretty poor compared to usual. Weaker in possession.

Shipley: 6 - Not at the same level as Saturday. We were better when he went off.

JCH: 6.5 - Looked the part again, but goes down too easily.

McNulty: 7.5 - Far better than Saturday. Ran his socks off, good penalty and handled their centre back well.

Subs:

Reid: 7.5 - We are a better team with him on the pitch. His delivery from corners is outstanding.

Biamou: 7 - Work rate was superb. Helped us cross the line.

I'd definitely be looking at Reid to start on Saturday> Shipley looks like he needs a rest and Reid can provide the width we're sometimes lacking.

Biamou was great after coming on and it's good to see being dropped hasn't disheartened him. Fair play to Hyam too, we've an embarrassment of riches at CB for this league.

Shame the loans have, so far, looked terrible. A couple of decent loan signings and we might not have dropped so far down, all the poor games we've played have included Quasimodo-Drew or Fatty (I think).

7s for everyone. Not much in terms of quality from either side but for effort and guile away from home and never giving up. Felt if any team would nick it then it would be us and Robins got the tactics bang on..

Burge - 7. Solid. Wasn’t called into making any major saves but his decision making was very good.

Grimmer - 7.
Hyam - 8.
McDonald - 8.
Haynes - 8.

The whole defence were excellent. Marked down Grimmer for being wasteful with the ball going forward once or twice but I thought they dealt with their style of play very well.

Bayliss - 7. Ropey start, grew into the game though.
Kelly - 7. Did well picking up the second ball.
Doyle - 6. If he wasn’t so wasteful with the ball he’d score higher.
Shipley - 5. Pretty anonymous.

McNulty - 7. Great penalty, wasn’t his usual busy self for long periods though.
Clarke-Harris - 7. I really like the look of him, strong and quick. We look dangerous when he’s involved.

Subs: Biamou - 6. Thought he played well when he was on but not on for long enough for a higher score.
Reid - 8. Changed the game when he came on. More of that please.

Robins - 9. Set up the team very well, tactics to make sure we won the second ball we’re spot on. Classic away performance.

Carefull mate too many on here won't like you rating a team that started with Doyle and Kelly in middle and bayliss on the right. They better managers than Robins.lmfao.

Anyone know our record v top 6 & bottom 6 (at time of playing them not just where they are now). It's an odd set of results I'm sure.

I’d agree with them if we had someone better to play on the right of midfield. I don’t think we do.

Burge- 7. Claimed balls in the air well and looked calm all night.
Grimmer- 6. Get forward and supported Bayliss well. Some sloppy passes but a decent performance.
McDonald- 9. Kept the “Beast” quiet tonight and sprayed some very good passes all over the park.
Hyam- 8. Looked calm and helped deal with akinfenwa. Can see why he’s not a guaranteed starter but not a bad replacement player.
Haynes- 7. Defended well against a quick winger and got forward well too.
Kelly- 7. Pushed forward with the ball more which I like to see. Played some good passes.
Doyle- 6. Looked slightly below par tonight. Panicking with passes and rushing play. But a good Doyle performance nonetheless(especially liked him throwing the ball at an injured Wycombe player)
Shipley- 5. Thought he looked unfit tonight and apparently went off injured.
Bayliss- 7. Brilliant run for the goal. Thought he would have scored having not been taken down. Needs to improve his range of passing a little tiny bit.
JCH-7. Good in the air and made some decent runs with the ball. Clearly too good for this division.
McNulty-8. Took his penalty calmly. Looked a lot more lively and caused problems. Had a shot blocked that looked destined for the top corner. 17 goals now haters.

Subs
Reid-7. Thought he changed the game. Definitely needs to start now. Some excellent corner deliveries.
Biamou-7. Worked his arse off as usual. Won some headers well and chased everything. Is very good with the ball at his feet I’ve come to notice.
Robins- 8. Got it right today. Brought Reid into the game at exactly the right time.

Didn't know Wycombe was a person and why on earth would he be picking our team for us?

Good to see some really positive comments about Burge being positive and coming for crosses and McDonalds handling of Akinfenwa. They'll be another aerial assault and big unit to deal with Saturday.

We have enough big units to deal with on this forum, let alone out there on the pitch.

That reminds me of a Pompey fan’s verdict that I read of him last year. They basically said that they were not sure what he did when he played; didn’t really notice his contribution as a footballer. However, that they didn’t half miss him when he didn’t play.
I was very underwhelmed when we re-signed him, I’ve been converted!

Agree with most scores from last night. I thought Kelly was excellent and MOM. JCH got very little out of their defence last night and we looked much better with Biamou on. He held the ball up a bit more so that others,Bayliss especially could run onto it. Bayliss looked much better when Max came on. Reid gave us an outlet with his running and pace when he came on. Not been a great fan of Haynes, by he’s played very well in the last 2 games. Credit where credits due.
Finally, great support last night to get so many there in that weather on a Tuesday night.

I wasn't there. Only concern I have was in hearing a phone-in caller after the game and according to him we only had the one shot on target all game, the penalty.

Is that correct?

I’m not sure they had any more(?)...I think it was that sort of game.

Yes was the only one on target. A couple blocked/deflected but that was it. Both teams looked like they didn’t want to lose it. I think it changed when Biamou came on as the ball stuck a bit more up front allowing us to build attacks.

Terry_dactyl

Just checked and it says 4 on target for them, 1 for us.

I wasn’t there either but caught from about 15 mins into it...I don’t remember Burge making a save/any clear cut chances? It felt like we had the best of what was a very scrappy game.

Not there so cannot comment on individuals but it seems to me that following the distraction of the cup the players are playing for each other and for robbins. Doyle is a key player and even when not on top of his game (as people have said re last night) he is still vital on the pitch.
