Lukaku the Man United striker has said he'd like to see a game between the North and the South. I imagine he means two sides made up of Premier players. This was mentioned on Five Live and the guests which included Ian Wright said it was a great idea.
So you could pick players from both Manchester clubs, Liverpool, Everton, say for the North. And for the South from Chelsea, Spurs, and Arsenal ? Not easy to pick but both sides would be strong. Then who would be managers ? Ian Wright got excited and said it would be one hell of a match. Any suggestions ?

Not gonna lie, when I saw the thread title I thought you were proposing a match between SBT members from the respective regions

But aren’t the little superstars playing too much as it is!

Waste of time and interest surely the north would be Man City & Salah.

You’d have to split the clubs up and have at least 1 player from each club play.

Doesn’t interest me in the slightest.

I'd only be interested if it was UK players and defined by place of birth as opposed to the club they represent........

I remember reading an article a few years ago about the blue bell housing estate up here in Liverpool (well, Huyton to be precise) and a team just from that estate and surrounding postcode over the years was a good strong 11 full of top pros.

In 1963 at Wembley England played The Rest Of The World in a match celebrating 100 years of the Football Association. England won 2-1 with goals by Paine and Greaves. Denis Law scored for Rest Of The World. A crowd of 87,000 watched it. It attracted players like Eusebio, Puskas, Yashin, and it was claimed to be a success as both sides played to win. This was mentioned on Five Live and the guests on the programme said a game between the North and South would fill Wembley or Old Trafford.

Swap Valencia for Walker, Bailly for Van Dijk and Fernandinho for Pogba up north. Matic with a shout too

Lloris for Courtois and Alonso for Rose down south

The winners could play a Midlands X1 but then again they'd struggle to get a strong team together going on the Premier this season !

You have to remember where London sees as north.

I posted a couple of years ago about a talent agent in London. They have a northern division (covering Coventry through to Brum, Manchester and Liverpool etc.) And a southern division, south of Cov and London and south east and west.

Their books are nearly always full, but once a year they open their books for new kids and clients. Sometimes it is the southern division ,sometimes the northern, sometimes both.

Anyway, they announced that their northern division was open for new clients and so many people in London applied, believing that the southern division was for south London and the northern division for north London and that as they were from north London they could apply.

It's like the rest of the country doesn't exist.

As I don't follow the Premier as much these days I think the Championship could get a really strong side together. Wolves have some good players, and Cardiff and hate to say it Villa too. This could be a mini tournament in the making !

Lukaku wants to settle the North v South debate I think.
In football its always been those "southern softies" and the North being portrayed as the opposite. I also think the friction between Conte and Mourinho has opened up a can of worms, and so Lukaku probably tongue in cheek said okay let's settle it on the pitch.

It'd be more interesting if it was northern English and southern English footballers, a load of foreign players who happen to be paid by a team with a historic base in the north or south doesn't really mean much, does it?

They play enough games and imagine the insurance pay out if somebody got injured, clubs would refuse to release their players
