I have not been impressed with JMD or Josh Barrett, and believe we have enough cover in our squad to send them both back to their parent clubs.

I think it was JMD who was really woeful against Accrington, possibly nerves but I think you're right, feels like they'll benefit from the experience more than we'll benefit from having them around

I would have thought they would be in the U23 even for match fitness but they haven't even been on the bench there.

There's no real point to them, Barrett was tearing up the U23 league but the step up was massive. If he had himself in decent shape he could have been decent for us, but now with Reid back to play on the left I think he will give us more of an option.

JMD against Stoke was pretty good, when it got to League 2 it was completely different.

What was the reason for signing them ? Thought we had an expert in Tom Widdrington at scouting and getting in players.

Wonder how much we’re paying towards them?
With no more loans able to come in surely worth hanging on to them just in case even more injuries hit the squad

I'd rather we played with 10 men than send Barrett out to waddle around the touchline, at least then the central midfielder knows he needs to cover that side.

Both are a selection of the following:

A. Haven’t got the bollocks to genuinely fight for our cause and risk injury doing so.

B. As above but don’t care as they can carry on with their careers at their own clubs if it goes tits up here.

C. Aren’t the sort of players to get stuck in for the cause regardless.

D. Not good enough.

E. Good but not what we need right now.

F. Not had enough of a chance.

G. Kebab and chips.

H. Extra chips and sauce please mate.

I. Not being used correctly.

Even the 'experts' get it wrong from time to time. JMD and Barrett are both highly rated from their respective parent clubs. They're not necessarily bad players, both are just performing poorly.

or just nowhere ready for proper mens football even at league 2 level.

Bollocks. Opened this thread hoping the next line was 'been sent back'. Never mind I can live in hope.
I'd heard that KFC in courthouse green closing last week was down to Barrett clearing their stock in a sitting rather than supply issues.

Id agree with that. Maybe a bit harsh as its still early days but nevertheless still very disappointing! way too lightweight for this league.

Luckily for us the Reid Not going out on loan again has got us out of jail. Is a better option than either of those.

Must admit I haven’t been impressed by either and they are certainly too lightweight for L2.
Whilst I can’t see JMD ever making it In senior football I believe Barrett has the ability to certainly play at championship level if he begins to apply himself. You can see he has good technique but has he got the will to make it?

I remember a game in the Checkatrade lasr season when we played an "U21" team. Some of our players were younger than theirs but still outperformed them. Some young players find it hard to step up to League football even at our level and take time to adjust. The problem with loanees is that time is a luxury

Even if we don't plan to put them in the team again I'd probably still keep them for the duration of their loan, we're the kind of team who'd send them back and then lose half the squad to smallpox the very next day.
Use Barrett to roll the pitch and JMD to wear SB Sam suit.

Just no point in them playing, offered nothing so far

Agreed

Would be idiotic to send them back

They still can have a part to play

But we can’t afford to get it wrong, two wrong out of two isn’t good enough you say they are both highly rated but I suggest they have been loaned out to see if they are good enough for a future contract

Does Barrett also usually play more centrally?

I would have to say, as it stands, I would have no intention of using JMD & Barrett solicitors.

Sounds like a legal firm, but if they were I would guess they work with Jeremy Kyle over DNA results and who shagged who and whether it involved a bag over the head.

In the case of Barrett, Reading probably would've taken the view that he was getting to the stage of his career where he shouldn't be playing for the U23's and needs to be getting first team football to further his career. He was recently given a long term contract by Reading so they clearly have the belief that he has the potential to eventually make the step up to their starting XI. Maguire-Drew scored 16 times for Dagenham last season so again, he clearly has ability that warranted his rave reviews. But you could be well be right suggesting that loaning JMD out this season was Brighton testing the waters to see if it's worth investing more time and money into him - considering his contract is up fairly soon (if not this season then next).

However despite this, I do get cautious when a loan player comes in with the reputation of being "highly rated".... as it usually ends up backfiring - as it obviously has done with JMD and Barrett.

You're not wrong though it isn't good enough because as Tony Mowbray liked to say, "every pound counts."

Yes but has some nice touches, there is a player in there. Murray for Brighton drastically lacks pace, but can play with intelligence. A manager has to make the most of what he has and develop them. They are part of the squad and we are not going to get better players in. Everyone is in the group, so lets push on, we have plenty to play for. Football is a confidence game, fans would be mad to get on any players back at this stage of the season; last bend home straight in sight cheer them on!

These two are a classic case of it being better for us to put in our own youngsters than do another club's development work for them. Unless they're better than our own kids what's the point?
