I don’t think we will get promoted personally.
Say we did though my biggest issue is we have hit our ceiling. We certainly won’t be getting out of league 1. League 1 league 2 football is where we will be going forward obviously until major changes happen which is depressing.

I was there in 64 and 67. Still regard the Wolves game in 67 as THE game, not Spurs in '87. 51,455 (or was it 51,445?) Anyway there were shitloads of us. The only upside I can see from this season in the 4th tier is at least we win or draw most times. All those seasons on the edge of relegation, particularly towards the end of the Prem years (except '98)....,Ceased to be funny

My gut says we won’t do it this season, either just miss the playoffs or lose in the semi.
I hope we do though and I don’t care how we do it, this league is gash. In some ways would love a title winning season full of positivity. But this is City and I’ll take any route out.

If we do go up I see us lower mid table. We do well when teams try to beat us and are crap when teams park the bus. If we go up more teams will attack us in Div 1.

I first started getting interested in football after our promotions so I don't remember them so I would love to see a promotion or 2 in the time I have left which I hope is lots of years

It’s not like we’ve been outplayed in the last couple of games (although we were against FGR and Accrington). Have we just discovered the art of grinding out results? He says optimistically...

Doesn’t feel like promotion...not consistent, not playing particularly well, not a team to be feared, not picked off enough bottom of table teams, fans not convinced by team or performances.
And yet it’s now in our hands. Playoffs route rather than autos. Put together a good run now (and we are unbeaten in 3) and momentum will be with us.
As for if we get promoted....we’ll big changes needed or a relegation battle next year.

Hmm, but is it an art?
Their centre forward on Saturday had the ball come to him just outside the penalty area in the first half and all he had to do was to retain possession and he had a clear run on goal, pretty much one on one.
Inexplicably though he decided to take a pot shot rather than run in on goal and the shot went well wide.
There was no art to be had on our part there unfortunately. Luckily for us Barnet didn't have their shooting boots on.
If we win 1-0, but don't play well and the opposition spurn a number of opportunities, there is no art involved.

I guess not...stop talking sense and allow me my optimism!
What bothers me most is, as someone else has mentioned, we don’t seem to be able to break teams down. Teams are going to get chances but we don’t create nearly enough. I think this is also the biggest argument for playing Bayliss in the middle. He can make things happen.

We were outplayed by Barnet on Saturday in all but the result.
21 shots to our 8. They had 6 on target to our 2.
Burge made some great saves.

I said on the match thread at the time that I thought the Mansfield penalty was the turning point of the season and later that we'd now go unbeaten until the end of the season. It's going to take an almighty performance improvement tonight to convince me I wasn't just getting caught up in the moment.
5 times this season we've won 2 on the trot and then lost. This inability to string any kind of run together has cost us a chance at the autos -2 steps forward 1 step back. 1-0 wins at home and defeats away to the worst teams in this league doesn't have the feel of a promotion campaign for me and limping out of a division where we are a big fish is leaving me underwhelmed. I'll be delighted if we do get out of this division at the first time of asking and it would be a good achievement but after 30 years of nothing, scraping into the play offs averaging 1 goal a game is just not how I imagined 'success' would be like when it eventually came. Which league games this season will we be talking about in 5/10 years? Shipley's free kick at Luton away?

same at Wycombe, but we bagged 6 points from th0se 2 games. At this stage of the season it's all about grinding out results, if we keep doing that I'll be happy if not entertained!

What was your take on when it happened then?
If the goalkeeper gets the ball in his hands and our strikers make runs and are completely unmarked it sets up an attack instead of holding onto the ball for about 10 seconds to let them get back into position, punt it downfield and then watch it come back at us.

Indeed, a win tonight would put us 5pts off 3rd - staggering considering we all thought autos were off the cards after the 3 game skid.
I have a feeling that if we win tonight, we’re very much back in the race for automatic promotion.

Quick and accurate distribution from the keeper can clearly set up attacking moves that can result in goals.

The one area where there has been massive improvement is the ability to see games out. I always used to be fearful of conceding a late goal, now we are much better.
I know some people that dont understand the game say Burge should be releasing the ball earlier etc, but whilst its in his hands the other side can't score. The same with Haynes and his 5 minutes per throw in. Infuriating I know, but professional. The sort of things that other sides used to do to us.

It's all well and good other sides doing it against us if they are happy with the 0-0 and want to slow the game down but when we want to win games and go at other teams it should be standard to release it to try and score. If we are winning then obviously we can slow the game down.
We also have to look at what is happening every kick, if it's coming straight back at us every time then it's inviting pressure. However if we give it Reid / McNulty to run to the corner it also means they can't score.
Haynes was taking 5 minutes per throw in even at 0-0 and then just resorted to throwing it to JCH who had 2 men on him and nobody else around him so it went to them every time even if JCH won it. Not a very clever game plan, may as well have just taken a foul throw and hope they give us the ball back.
Unless of course the plan is to time waste at 0-0 at home to Barnet?

Bottom line is our kicks from the keeper and our throw ins more often than not give the ball straight back to the opposition.
Surely the last thing you want to do is to invite unnecessary pressure.
How we haven't sorted out the throw ins beggars belief.

There were a couple of times the player called for the ball as he was running over the half way line but Burge was oblivious to it or perhaps he had been told to slow it down. If thats the case someone needs to tell the forwards it's not going to happen. Very confusing when watching what seems an obvious ball.

No the throw ins are a disaster and very frustrating watching. The ball 'ALWAYS' ends up with the opposition.
