Well we just need to do our bit.
I am confident we can win a fair few games now until the end of the season, but the lack of goals still concerns me. 1-0 wins don't leave much room for error.
One thing we have lacked all season is goals from midfield. It's nice that both Bayliss and Vincenti have now scored in the last couple of matches.
Might be hoping a little much, but maybe, just maybe, Baker will play a part and chip in with a few himself.

Its more our style of play though, why we don't get more from midfield. There is no reason why the likes of Reid, and even Kelly if he gets forward like he did on Saturday can't score one or two.

You guys that are going on about our current great form need to look back at the Barnet (the bottom club!) game - which we were extremely lucky to win.
They had 21 shots to our 8 and 6 on target to our 2.
A better team would easily have beaten us 3-1.
So I agree with the people that say the automatics are beyond us.
We might just hang on for a play-off spot.

I really would like to be as confident as most on here.
I know Robins has said it's a mini season now and to a degree he is right but it's still the same season as FGR, Yeovil, Newport, Port Vale et al and we have not shown the form to say that we can deliver on a consistent basis.
It is a possible rather than a probable from me.

I will now be bitterly disappointed if we don't make the playoffs.
What we are showing at the moment is indeed playoff form (P5, W3, D2). It's not quite the automatic promotion form we would need to make up the ground. That would need us to be P5, W5, or P5, W4, D1.
What we are doing at the moment should be more than enough to grab a top 7 slot.

all about winning at this stage. That's how teams get over the line, good displays are a bonus. We only had 1 shot against Wycombe but we won 1-0 and that victory could prove to be crucial.
Rather play bad and come away with 3 points than play well and lose as we have done in the past.

Surely the best case scenario is a Port Vale win, they cannot catch us for 7th, the average case scenario is a draw and the shit scenario is an Exeter win

Ah, but a win for Port Vale puts them 10 points clear of the relegation places and all but safe.
They then may relax a bit.
Their next game after Exeter is against Wycombe!!! That's why I said a draw tonight. We could do with them needing a point Saturday too!!
So, a draw tonight, taking 2 points off Exeter and then hopefully at least 2 points off Wycombe.

I disagree. A primary issue of our lack of luck in front of goal this season is down to the fact that none of our midfielders are goalscoring midfielders, and never have been. The only exception is Vincenti but his goalscoring days have clearly come to an immediate conclusion. If none bar one have ever consistently scored in their playing career, it's unlikely that the likes of Kelly and Reid are going to start chipping in with 10+ goals a season.

Exactly, Robins has clearly brought him in as a 'no risk' quick fix to see if he can make up the deficit because lets be honest, none of our midfield seem to have the confidence to even take a shot outside the box let alone to try anything that is remotely unconventional. Hopefully Baker can rectify this.

In the last 6 games Bayliss has scored from outside the box at Colchester, won the penalty at Wycombe, his effort from outside the box was parried to Vincenti for his goal vs Luton and he scored again vs Crewe. We will get more goals and assists from midfield if we continue to play with the greater attacking freedom we have been given recently.

But the issue is there's little to no creativity from the other 3 midfielders - so I'm not convinced that two half decent moments from Bayliss and a tap in from Vincenti has solved all our problems. Vincenti, Doyle and Reid/Shipley haven't got 10 goals between them in a Sky Blue shirt this season. It's a similar story with their assist rate. Stats aren't everything of course but there's a reason why Baker has been brought in and it's obviously to rectify this problem.

We can really do with the defenders getting the odd goal too.
Been very disappointing the lack of goals from defence (dont expect double figures in the league) which is linked to our big issue of not scoring from set pieces/corners and headers in the league.
Our stats of goals from set pieces and general headers has to be easily the lowest in the league. And that in a league where other teams bread and butter is set piece goals or headed goals.

I thought Shipley's corners were so much better than Jones when he took over corner duty but they seem to have gone very floaty in the last few games.

This is where other teams have an advantage over us. Teams like Luton a goal can come from literally anybody.
I don’t remember a season this poor from goals scored by our defenders. Probably why we have the best defence as they never venture into oppo box.

It’s all relative mate. Considering in the last 5 we’ve played Wycombe, Luton and Mansfield, then Barnet and Crewe - 3 wins and 2 draws is very credible.
We’re worrying about too many variables. The bottom line is, we have to keep winning to cement a playoff spot anyway, but in the meantime, we can feasibly catch up to 3rd.
After the 3 game losing streak, we were 11pts off autos - within 5 games, we’ve cut that too 5pts. What’s pretty evident at the minute, and the form table shows this, is that none of the teams in contention for 3rd have been showing promotion form. From 3rd to 9th, we’re the ‘in-form’ team. A win on Saturday changes that form from W3 D2 to W4 D1 - the promotion form you talk of.
You’re keen on Mansfield, but they’ve drew (15) nearly as many games they’ve won (16) and have drew every game since Evans left. At this stage of the season, I’d rather be in our position than theirs. I think we’ll be above them in the table by, or after, Easter Monday.

Just focusing on Mansfield because they were favourites to go up and even though they haven't set the world alight, they have only lost 6 games all season, half of what we have lost and that record of 6 losses is best record in the division.
That shows that they are very hard to beat.

Willis scored a few last year. Considering we always have a couple of our defenders go up for most corners been a very poor return.
Jodi Jones was on course for double figures, Think he got 5.... still our third top scorer after McNulty and Nazon.

Couldn’t care less about Port Vales ifs and buts for their next game.

How do you figure that out? If Luton or Mansfield win 8 and Wycombe win 8 and or Exeter win 9 then no we won't.
Teams above us have more points than us, so if they win out (as long as they don't play each other) they will all finish above us.

Port Vale play Exeter and then Wycombe. We need Port Vale to take points off both if possible.
If Port Vale win tonight though they will be 10 points clear of second bottom and the points are then not as urgent on Saturday against Wycombe.
Best scenario is if Port Vale need points off both teams.
The logic is perfectly sound.
