I’ve watched it on the highlights, that angle really doesn’t do it justice.
Those behind the goal will know how good it was.
I would agree. Both the save and the clearance saved goalbound efforts that I, and I would think, everyone else behind the goal thought were in. The TV angle doesn’t do it justice. It wasn’t a standard save and had it gone in no one but the usual suspects would have blamed Burge. Again, I am not commenting on Burge as a goalkeeper, I am just saying the save was top drawer.

Look at this level Burge is good enough. There’s going to be no point in replacing him. He’s clearly as capable as any other league 2 keeper.

The clean sheet thing is misleading as if the same defence was in league 1 it would be struggle and the keeper would get more focus.

Burge is good enough at this level. He’s not good enough if we aspire promotion from the league above but he’s been better this season than I expected.

So he should be retained even if a deputy should we go up.

When has Robin’s tinkered with the position? If Burge has been fit then he has played.
You’re right, Burge has been in ever since O’Brien made a couple of mistakes earlier in the season, apart from Crewe, when Burge was ill. Like the rest of the players in this particular team, he tries his hardest every week, and overall does a good job for us. I’m pleased to see a good number of positive threads on here.

I was behind it and it was absolutely top drawer. To push onto and over the bar from point blank range deserves serious recognition. A few shitty kicks aside, his performance was very good. That save and Hyam’s clearance were the defining moments in the game. I’ll criticise him when it’s justified - along with every other player - but nothing but praise for his role in yesterday’s draw.

If we get promoted I would hazard a guess that Burge would be in goal again next season.

We’ve had two goalkeepers who have played over 50 games since relegation from the Championship

L1 stats for CCFC:
Burge played 60 games - conceded 80 goals
Murphy played 91 games - conceded 134 goals

Come on, Murphy is the better keeper by a mile.

I'm no fan of Burge but you are right. I was behind the goal aswell and it was a fantastic save, the angle on the box didn't really show how difficult the save was.

Yes, I was just posting some stats. Wasn’t too keen on Murphy tbh, rarely left his six yard box. Has been on the bench majority of the season for bottom of the league Bury. Only good keeper we’ve had in recent years is Westwood.

Murphy was decent enough but we conceded a lot of goals from crosses when he played. He wasn’t great at collecting crosses.

Westwood was decent, no doubt about that, I think that whoever took over from him when he left was always going to have big boots to fill and that was Joe Murphy. A bit like when Oggy retired.

You only have to look at the players reaction to work out it was a top draw save!

If Burge could sort out his distribution then there is a good goalkeeper there.
He is a decent shot stopper and has improved on crosses.
I hope his game develops, if he keeps clean sheets then we will be winning games in future.

Yep. Two areas of concern. Distribution and command of his area. The second one he has definitely improved upon.

Distribution is his biggest problem apart from that he has developed into a decent keeper has starting to command his goal area better and has always been a decent shot stopper, that’s what I want in a goalie not how far he can kick it, that will improve.
Big Oggie most will claim to be our best ever goalkeeper was hardly the best thrower or kicker of the ball (except v Sheffield Wednesday away 1986 !) Leigh Burge is improving much to the annoyance of his knockers on here. A number of whom demonstrate there inept knowledge of football on a regular basis.

I’ve been impressed this year, to be fair, his shit stopping is good, crossing judgement has improved and his kicking has improved but from a real low level.
I am a fan at this level.

If his kicking and crossing judgement was a lot better then let’s face it, he wouldn’t be playing for us at this level.

Keepers do improve with age and they do benefit equally from a confident set of defenders and themselves being confident to help them out.

Ironically my biggest worry about Burge this season is that league two would just be loads of balls into the box but his handling is much improved. His distribution is terrible and he needs to know when to leave his box though.

To be fair you did describe Callum Wilson as a one season wonder in league one and didn’t think he’d cut it in the championship let alone the premier league so you’re hardly in a position to judge.

You must have misinterpreted what he said to be fair. Never wrong.

Hope this helps.

Bill Glazier was far superior to Oggy !!

I'm afraid that mistake has completely set the tone for this. He catches the ball non of the panic at the back happens

Did I say that Robins tinkers with the keepers and was ‘tried’ to be proved wrong

Irish read my thread again and admit you agree if you can face it .

Go on , do it .
